Description
Patty M gets the Orpik treatment traded, bought-out and resigned.
I seriously think Dubas wants someone to play with Morgan, he will only trade WIlly for a Parayko esk player, I think Pesce is far more realistic.
If you do not like the trade then Zaitsev will probably be traded to Vancouver or another team looking for a third pair RHD.
Z could play bottom pair in Carolina and have good value, I think this is a good trade for both.

All those cheap AHL players will make this salary structure work, Dubas has done a great job bringing in cheap players to play with the big contracts.

Leafs fans, can we just stop with this?
The Sens aren’t paying 3.833 million to buyout Marleau.
The canes aren’t giving you pesce.

Enough

Why wouldn't Ottawa want cap space?
He only has 1 million left on his deal after July 1.
That means Ottawa can get a cap hit of about 4 million while only paying 1 million in real cash.
3 million closer to the floor, for free? That sounds exactly like something Eugene would want.
RHD, they will get someone, I think Pesce is realistic, but maybe it is someone else.
Just someone I know they were talking about before, Carolina BTW wants Kapanen, that's why he is in that trade.

Well, none of that is true.
1. Marleau is a 35+ contract, so the cap hit after buy out would be the full 6.25
2. The buyout window closes before his bonus is due, so the team that buys him out has to pay 3.83

The canes might want Kapanen, but not 10% as much as they want to keep pesce. They wouldn’t give him up for nylander.

The Marleau contract has been talked endlessly. A Marleau buyout cost's 1m cash, Don't like the trade fine, but geez a few facts about the actual buyout cost would be nice.

Okay, so you are saying Ottawa wouldn't want that free space under that cap. It is still money that you get on your cap and do not have to pay. Look at how many times Arizona has done this. Maybe it isn't Ottawa but Marleau is going to a cap floor team, it just makes sense.

But they do have to pay. They have to pay 3.833 million dollars

If the Marleau trade and buyout happens after the July 1, 2019 bonus is paid the Actual cost is $833,333 ($416,667 * 2 years) and the cap hit for year 1 is $6,250,000 and $0 for year 2

Except the buy out window closes before July first. So, that can’t happen. It’s 3.833 million

That is false. Reports had Carolina offering Pesce for Nylander when he was unsigned, Toronto wanted Slavin though. Carolina seems to be pretty open to a deal involving both players, Toronto is the one who make the deal.

Then Pesce started playing better, Nylander signed a bad contract, and started playing worse. Things sometimes change.

& GM's are stupid enough to base a guys value off of 6 months of play when he missed training camp and 2 months of the season.. They don't change that much in 6 months. Nylander had almost the exact same underlying numbers as Marner after 2 seasons in the league and look what Marner did this year.. stop acting like you know everything about the Leafs on every post. You're pretty far off actually

I don't know everything. Far from it. Neither do you. However I can put 2 and 2 together sometimes. There is no way on earth the Canes would trade Pesce for Nylander given their contractual situations and respective production.

Lol. Yet again, thanks for proving how little you really know. There's far more to hockey than just goals/assists/points for a 6 month span. tears of joy

Ya...I think I know that. I'm the guy that you think is overrating a defensive d man....did you forget about that? Nylander didn't just fail to put up points, he was a pushover in the playoffs. Soft, uninterested, lazy. He was an opponents dream to play against. That said I think he'll bounce back and be really good....but you're asking for Pesce. That isn't in the cards. I think Debrusk is awesome but he's not going to get pesce either.
