Any idea of what kind of RFA deal he gets, or are the pasty, 37 and marchant contracts so unreal it is like the Lindstrom rule on the wings, they can just lowball because their best players are underpaid?

Do you think if the Leafs flipped one of their big salary winngers like Marner or Nylander,
would they finally be able to compete with your team if Morgan had a partner.
Ekblad or Hanifin, i believe either of these adds and maybe the Leafs could actually beat you guys in game 7.

Seriously though, I think it's a decent trade. Just wondering how bad would FLA defensive depth look like without Ekblad... Yandle-Weegar, Matheson-Strålman, Stillman-Brown just might be the weakest D-core of the league...</div></div>
If the Leafs sent Dermott in the deal, and then asked for a mid tear prospect, do you think that would be better.
Florida does not have much choice on D because of the 10 million dollar anchor.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EddieBower</b></div><div>I think even if Leafs fans are upset.
They will see you got a 1 for a 4
And Flordia will overvalue the high skill plays.
He will make a tandem with Barkov for years
Hoenstly if Dubas did Marner and Dermott
I think because they still have 4 decent
You could get a forward prospect, then if a player like Gudas was open for a short UFA deal
He could be on a third Pair
Or is Timmy shows he can play
The beauty of Marincin is worst case scenario he is in
I think with all of the shakeups in Flordia and the fact that they would be able to save some money and get younger.
Even in division all teams get better.
Especially since the Rangers are playoff team next year.
Both the Panthers and the Leafs have a reason to deal strength for a weakness.
Flordia will be able to use the extra cash for Hoffman or Dadanov.
Also, Ekblad would be ultra motivated
Reilly-Ekblad could be Canadas top paid for 10 years.
Too many boxes checked if you ask me.</div></div>
Okay, this is all fine.
Does anyone actually think they would do this.
Like a this the count is 12 yes and 1 no, so if you are going by court of law, this is an innocent trade and if you ask me, Marner has more VALUE than WIlly, because of name rec (there is a reason Biden will be president) but Willy makes 3 mill less and has actually scored 30. However, we in Toronto have glorified Marner, do not forget when Auston scored 4, Mitch had 0 points.
I think AM34 has been carrying 16, so if we could FILL OUR NEED and also save some cap space AND save FLORIDA real money,
IDK how is this not done?

If it's 10.5 I think the Leafs match, but if it's 10.8 I would take the 4 first round picks, I'll take my chances with an unprotected first rounder in the 2023 NHL draft.

1. Marleau is a 35+ contract, so the cap hit after buy out would be the full 6.25
2. The buyout window closes before his bonus is due, so the team that buys him out has to pay 3.83
The canes might want Kapanen, but not 10% as much as they want to keep pesce. They wouldn’t give him up for nylander.</div></div>
Okay, so you are saying Ottawa wouldn't want that free space under that cap. It is still money that you get on your cap and do not have to pay. Look at how many times Arizona has done this. Maybe it isn't Ottawa but Marleau is going to a cap floor team, it just makes sense.

Yes, I think honestly if someone is going to replace Kap, it would be Bracco, I think he would be great with Naz, because Naz can defend and likes to score, Bracco's job would be send great passes and run PP2.

The Sens aren’t paying 3.833 million to buyout Marleau.
The canes aren’t giving you pesce.
Enough</div></div>
Why wouldn't Ottawa want cap space?
He only has 1 million left on his deal after July 1.
That means Ottawa can get a cap hit of about 4 million while only paying 1 million in real cash.
3 million closer to the floor, for free? That sounds exactly like something Eugene would want.
RHD, they will get someone, I think Pesce is realistic, but maybe it is someone else.
Just someone I know they were talking about before, Carolina BTW wants Kapanen, that's why he is in that trade.

Yeah, as much as a Leaf fan I would like to think they could win the cup every year Tavares is on the team, but if next year is a defence building year, while you have Marleau, fill the spot with someone who is without a contract, people will want to play for thsi team, then in 20-21 Sandin and Liljegren will both be ready and you have an extra 6.25 and Seattle expansion money to build the team.
Reilly, Dermott, Sandin and Liljegren will be a solid core, we just have to wait. Pair that with Freddy and the top 9, thsi will be an excellent team for a long time. No need getting rid of someone to have Jake for maybe 1 or 2 good years.

dear lord, that d is rough.</div></div>
The people who think they will sign Gardiner long term, I just do not think it is realistic salary-wise, and with the prospects that they have on the left. I am just not sure of a cheap reliable option on the right side. I just do not think they should give away the offence that makes them special to try and fix the right side. I am interested to see what Kyle does with the D this up-coming offseason.

I think there is potential to add on D by moving Brown and using that money to sign a low-level free agent, but I think with the Leaf's top 9 the will be able to own so much puck possession that the defence will not be much of a problem. Similar to the Pens in their prime cup times.

Teams need to figure out quick the middle class kills you. Pay your stars and then fill out the roster with cheap players. 4 5 million dollar veterans make too much and eat up cap. Beagle Rouselle Ladd will all be buyouts just like Brouwer in Calg. If they pay Matthews 13 and Marner 9 I am cool as long as you keep your best players you are fine. We literally have an entire AHL team of cheap fill in players if you need them. Pay the star ignore the middle class salary

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Well sure it could happen if you under pay everyone... including Panarin... it will not happen and we can not afford panarin. Having 36m spent on 4 players is spreading the rest of the team thin spending 39-40m will not work.
Conclusions I have come to so far mathews will make 12m plus marner will take a team friendly at 7.5-8m depending on performance nylander will be forced into a contract under 7m. Panarin will cost 9m maybe more depending on who else is offering.</div></div>
They key is cheap D though. If you only spend 20-25 on D and goalie then you have 60+ for forwards
Dermott Holl Ozzi Rosen Borgman and Liljegren are all under a mill with Zaitsev and Reilly at 10. So your defense is under 20 freddy is 5 backup 700-900k. You have a lot of money for forwards. They are keeping the nylander number down so that Marner doesnt make too much.
The beauty of Panarin is that Marner is magic but he isnt that good so if you got Panarin it brings Marner down.
I think if you got Marner Matghews Tavares and Panarin at 40 or under you win.
That means your bottom 6 has 20 mil or maybe a hit kore to use. If lindholm is around 1 Hyman 2 brown 2 Kap 3.
Suddlent ELC and you have a full roster. I think they could make it work which is why having the best cap people in the NHL gives the Leafs a tema with a lot of money a great advantage

Nope because they know he cant play it is all saved. There is bonus carryover but next year Dermott and maybe Lilijegren would be there only bonuses
That's why the Leafs are keeping so much cap space even when nylander resigns so that they can make sure the Marner and Matthews bonuses get paid in full this year so they have a clean cap next year.
It's so smart to not use it now because they dont have to. Matthews already essentially has his 2 mil but Dubas and Pridum planned for that already which is why they have so much space
