Description

If I'm MB and the incentive is right I take a chance on Neal. I think this season was a fluke and a change of scenery could get him back to form and help our PP.

So my question to all you wonderful people is what would the Flames have to add to this to dump his cap in Montreal?

PS. I put Alzner on 2nd pairing because I wanted this post to focus on Neal and not the obvious need for a 2nd pairing left side defensemen.

Flames have young D they could use a veteran like Alzner even if its as a 7th D and Neal doesn't fit anywhere on this roster

It could work well for MTL as they were able to completely turn around Tatar, maybe they could do the same for Neal

For me it would have to be a package deal, ex: Neal, Brodie (assuming he'd sign), Rittich (assuming he'd sign), + 1st. For Alzner, Drouin, Rielly, Lindgren, and a 2nd/ 3rd.

Well the way I see it is it solves a lot of problems for both sides; Habs get the backup they need, a top 4 LD, and can afford to just buyout Neal. Flames get Top 6 Drouin, leadership (as someone mentioned above), Lindgren. The 1st for the 2nd (let's assume it's a 2nd) would just be for MB to sweeten the deal since he's the one doing calgary the "Favour"

How does Montreal benefit from that at all? That's way too much cap for Montreal to take on ($9,375,000 for just Alzner and Neal who both wouldn't play), we don't get a solid backup goalie back, Killington isn't playing in the Top 4, and Lehkonen is untouchable if I'm MB he's too good of a penalty killer and he'll find his offensive game next year playing Top 6 mins with Top 6 players.

The flames don't know how to use Neal. He's got a lot left in the tank, he's just in a bad fit and I think sooner or later the flames are going to have to admit that.
On the right team, playing a North/South game Neal will tear it up. Someone is going to get a steal of a trade there.
