Yeah Leafs need cap space too. Have no need for Hoffman or his cap hit.

No way the Canes bite. Horton is pretty much done his NHL career and Marleau probably wont waive his no move clause

Horton's contract don't need to be moved. He can be put to LTIR, thus he has no effect on the salary cap. What is hard to move is Marleau. He has a NMC on his contract and he has no reason to waive it.

NSH is not moving Ekholm. He's very solid D, close to TOP10 in left-handed D-men on this league. Much more valuable than a middle-6 C, that's the role Kadri would play in NSH.

I'm also pretty sure that BUF would keep Sobotka for one year more rather than take 5 years of Zaitsev.

Also Hoffman is not worth that much. Besides, TOR can't afford to take him, otherwise they can't afford re-signing Kapanen and Marner.

Kadri deal would have to be for Ellis (from the Leafs point of view), but frankly Ellis is worth more than Kadri. Eckholm may be as well. But the Leafs need an RD.
If I had to guess its Subban who will be on the move the year before they have to resign Josi, but just a guess.

The rest others have addrsesed above

Yeah I know who he is. He's a goon who's not even playing hockey at the moment and is getting paid $5m

1st I wouldn’t can him a goon, 2nd he will never play again and his contract just goes onto LTIR which won’t hurt the canes, so your post makes no sense

So maybe he's not exactly a goon but he's been a third-fourth liner for pretty much his whole career. Still though, why would anybody want a guy who hasn't officially retired but wont play another game in his career?

Well he definitely doesn’t have value but he also doesn’t have negative value to a non cap team that won’t be affected by the fact that you can’t use his ltir space for performance bonuses, which is the only reason the leafs might want to move him

I'm still just not understanding why he hasn't retired because the surgery required to fix his back would end his career anyway so he might as well retire. It's basically the same thing that happened to Derek Dorsett, he's still under contract with Vancouver but is retired due to risk of injuring himself

Please do not trade LTIRs. Their cap hit 99% of time have no meaning. Leafs are fine with Horton next year. Trading LTIRs are generally a foolish obsession some on this site. Leafs don't trade Dermott and more for one year of Hoffman. I don't know of any team that would give up so much for Hoffman. Despite the rumours, Zaitseav is not on a bad contract. Nashville easily pass.

"Retired" implies that the player doesn't get paid. Sure Horton and Dorsett, apparently MacArthur, maybe Gaborik will never play again...but they have to go on LTIR for cap purposes, which 99% of the time doesn't affect a teams cap.
