A leafs fan with a reasonable approach to fixing their cap situation?? Unbelievable!

Only problem with being that close to the cap is if someone gets hurt and you need a replacement during the season. Makes accomplishing trades very difficult. Would be a big help if Hainsey takes 2.5 or something like that but I don't know if that's realistic.

Also I am not a leafs fan so I don't know Kapanen and Johnsson's approach, but its possible that one of them holds out for more money, but you gotta think that this early in their careers they won't be asking for a lot of money as they will have realistic chances at competing for cups the next couple years.

I don’t EDM is the team to take Zaitsev, but someone will, Hainsey will get like 1 mil unless he retires, Sandin probably won’t play next year, but Rosen will go in that spot, team looks good just a couple tweaks I would make

I think any problem will Johnsson or Kapanen Contracts would be solved by a 1 year deal till Marleau comes off the books, and your right to think Hainsey should make less (far less)

You'd better bring in Marner and Hainsey for less because operating with a short roster is fraught with risk no matter how many Marlies you can shuttle back and forth. I still think the best solution is Kapanen, Zaitsev and picks for Scott Mayfield and a pick, or Zaitsev plus picks for Mayfield alone.

That's fair. I'm a wings fan and last year AA held out because he wanted more money and term, and he's a very comparable player in regards to value as both Johnsson and Kapanen. But then again, the Wings blow and I'd like to think that players would be more keen to sign 1 year bridge deals if it means they are competing for a cup rather than playing on a rebuilding team.

Vancouver already has too many forwards. I don't see them making that deal.

You're generous on the cap, and still two roster positions short. It's almost impossible to trade Zaitsev and not similar money back in the trade.

I'll disagree with Wojo on his thesis that some RFA will take discounts. Nylander and Matthews actually got premiums. Veteran players that have banked big money might take less money. I don't see guys coming off ELCs, settling for less.
