Description
I know STL will not be sellers and specifically will not be trading Pietrangelo for many reasons, but this idea was on Twitter from a Caps beat writer today so I thought I’d just see what it would look like.

The beat writer suggested you could dump your replacement level NHLers and mid-round picks for a top-15 defenseman?

Oh, did you read the article too? That’s almost a direct quote.

I cringe just seeing the name Jaskin....No chance St. Louis has any interest in that deal. If you want Petro that's fine but the return starts with a Backstrom/Kuznetsov/Wilson.

That’s equally just as bad. Let’s find a middle ground between “starts with kuznetsov” and what this guy offered

Spare parts for a Top 15 Defenseman I know he has been bad on D, but damn.

I think the offseason/draft day version of a Petro trade would start with Alexeyev and a 1st, probably looking at a roster player too and maybe a couple other parts on either side. At some point, the Blues brass are going to see the elephant in the room that other than Perunovich, we really don't have any defensemen to be excited about in the pipeline, and Scotty P is very much a boom or bust prospect still.

I like that offer a lot. Blues won’t move peiterangelo right now tho since they’re in playoff contention. Least I doubt they would

I get where you guys are coming from and I’d be willing to up the trade value, but curious where you stand on this vs. the Shattenkirk trade? That was just a prospect, a first round pick and a conditional in a year that Shattenkirk finished 4th in scoring. This is less retention but another year on the contract for Pietrangelo but there are three prospects with SOME value (level of value debatable, I get it), and two picks with no conditions. Is it really THAT far off?

I think it'a pretty far off. Like others have said, it's a bunch of mediocre or lower assets for still a pretty viable RHD. 1st is going to be involved and a good D prospect. I don't think it's necessarily Alexeyev, but it's no less than Johansen.

The value is different because Shattenkirk was a rental. Not a cheap rental either. A 1st rounder, even late, is getting to be expensive draft capital.

I don't think Pietrangelo is dealt until the draft anyway. I think Caps circle back then if they flame out in the playoffs.

Alright, alright, I concede. Not like they’d actually trade him anyway,

I think they wait. Blues are playing better hockey, they're hard to play against. I think they look to add non-rentals.

Ha ha. LOL That was funny, @mhockey91. I agree with you: Kuznetsov...no chance. Burakovsky, Bowey and some picks...good start. Backstrom...comedy hour starts around 7:00 pm (CST).

And, the last two weeks plus, he's been on fire. Anything with the word "Jaskin" in it is a big no and tastes like acid reflux.

Alexeyev, Burakovsky, and a 1st for Petro and Blais. SOLD!

In reality, no, you aren't far off. Want no part of Jaskin though. I like Bowey. Perhaps a defensive prospect added? Yes, Bowey is a defender, but add another?
