What dubas will do to improve d depth

Description
Though i like many leaf fans hope dubas will go after a big fish for the d, history proves Dubas is more a stregthen what have type of trader than throwing the farm to get one player at the deadline. So when you look at who is available and who fits the style of play the leafs are running Jensen seems like a good fit and with our prospect depth we can offer DET a 2nd and a prospect without flinching. So though it may not have us all run to work to book the stanley cup finals off this year it will strengthen the defense with a 20 min defensive orianted dman who will reduce the hard min Hainsey will need to play on the top pair.

I'm not a Leafs fan, but I think Jensen is the perfect option to try and fix the Leafs RD issues. With that said, this is a pretty large overpayment, especially since Jensen is an UFA. The 2nd alone is probably enough.

Dubas may try and just give up a 3rd instead but he does seem to be willing to trade 2nds if it means getting the player he wants and to stop bidding wars when you look at the Boyle and Plekanec trades so odds are if he and his scouting dept think Jensen worth paying the 2nd he'll not flinch to close the deal.

That was Lou's doing. Dubas was not in control when those trades were made.

I agree with all of that. I just don't think Timashov and Holl are necessary pieces to the trade!

Maybe but from all acounts dubas had alot of influence in those meetings and from the way he has talked i don't get the impression he wants to trade any players in the starting roster to pull off a big deal and to get one of those big fish teams are going to want Johnsson, kapanen, liljegren and/or brown in the deal.

I was really looking at worst case that dubas may have to give up and the leafs have 5 timashov's in the system and holl though he may keep him if only for a cheap depth dman next season is not a deal breaker if DET want at least a player who can fill Jensen's spot for the rest of the season.

I say wait to see which Euro or Russian player the Leafs can sign, the Leafs have found; Rosen, Borgman, Ozzie and Zaitsev all for free by scouting undrafted unsigned players. So that's 4 out of the Leafs top 10 Dmen picked up for nothing.

I dont mind holl part of the deal, as he would most likely be the one sent down through waivers to free up the roster spot.

The problem with that the trade was to help this playoffs and from my understanding by the time the season is over in europe they are not eligible to play this playoffs.

If 2nd round picks are needed to get 4th round centres (Boyle and Plekanec). seems like you think Jensen is a top pairing guy the cost should be a lot more. The reality is Jensen might take some minute off Ozzie and maybe more time as right side PK, but don't see him taking minutes from the Hainsey.

I really don't i just think Zaitsev and Dermott are good together, Hainsey is a good partner for Gardiner and Jensen with his skating ability will be a good complement for Reilly. I don't think he will start on Reilly's pairing but if he pans out he could give hainsey more sheltered min. But he has been playing top 4 min in DET and defensively played solid. But no the lineup is more how i think they lineup and feel maximizes every players ability.
