Tyler Johnson waiver claim and building a Cup team

Description
The first five trades, and the MTL+TBL trades are made now. Minor pieces can be added to any trade to make them work. The biggest question mark is TJ. He has a full NTC, so Tampa acquire a fourth liner and a second in exchange for Callahan, and an agreement to put TJ on the waivers if he doesn't waive his NTC and Carolina is in last place in the standings. The idea of playing for a rebuilding team is enough for TJ to waive his NTC. Carolina should be on the bottom of the league though, as the trades deplete their already poor scoring, and destroy their goaltending. Plus, Crawford and Quick should recover enough to bring Chicago and LA off the bottom of the league.

Any team can claim TJ. That's not how waivers work.

If Tampa waived Johnson, do you really think he'd make it all the way through to Carolina? I mean, I'm not 100% sure of the rules on the NHL waiver order, but I'm assuming that it has a lot to do with your teams position in the standings. And, if that's the case, I'm also assuming that one of NJ, Philly, Ottawa, Florida, LA, Chicago, St Louis, or Arizona (Depending on their current cap space) jumps out and grabs him.

All 31 team get a chance to claim a player. Then the player goes to the team with the worst record. So at this point he would likely be going to LA or Chicago who are the lowest in the standings.

Teams lowest in the standings get priority.
So if the 31st and 29th teams both claim a player, he goes to the 31st team

IDK either, I'm banking that the possibility of being waived to a bottom team or being selected by Seattle would be enough for TJ to waive his NTC. Carolina is a playoff team with that roster, and TJ would rather be a 2C with Svech and Dzingel and contending than playing for a rebuilding team. Chicago, LA, Florida, and Philly can't really afford him, and St. Louis, Arizona, Ottawa, and New Jersey offer terrible lineup positions or a terrible playoff future.

Player is placed on waivers, every other team in the league has, I think, 24hrs to put in a claim on the player. If only one team puts in a claim they get him, if multiple teams put in claim then the one that is lower in the standings gets him. If it's before, again I think, November then it is based on last seasons standings.

And LA doesn't have enough cap space, and Chicago can't sign Panarin if they claim TJ.

It wouldn't be hard to find a team to take on a one year cap dump for three picks.

And there are literally a dozen+ other teams TJ would have to pass through before CAR can claim. Absolutely will not happen

If Carolina trades McElhinney, Mrazek, Martinook, Ferland, Williams, Rask, and McGinn right now, the bottom isn't too far in sight. A couple more losses will put them in 29th, and Chicago/LA don't really want to add a contract like that.

Even if the trade happens this year and they trade Ferland, Martinook, Williams, McGinn, Rask, McElhinney, and Mrazek right now? They are 6 points off the bottom.

I'll revise my decription and title to fit the waiver problem. TBH I didn't actually know that that was how the waivers worked.

I thought that the first team to claim them got the player. But where I was confused was that everyone in Yahoo leagues has a waiver number, and I knew that was based off the NHL, so I had no concrete thoughts. TBH I put that title up just to attract more opinions because he's a guy that is not likely to be placed on the waivers.

It is a lot, but look at it this way. Faulk is a one year rental. Roy can’t score at the NHL level, so he’s a high C prospect. Pu is struggling in the AHL, and he’s also a high C bordering a low B. Two fifths is the same as a low third or high fourth. Two C prospects is a mid B. Faulk is a rental. So a rental, a B prospect, and a third. That’s pretty even. If you took Pu and a fifth out of the trade would you do it?

    Those are very good points.
I do think we haven't seen enough out of Pu yet to trade him yet.
I would do Faulk, Roy and a 5th for Trouba
