Honestly giving Holts up isn't one of my favorite ideas...but...

Could be way off.. idk...just a quick guesstimate.

I'd rather get picks and prospects for Holtby. This also screws the caps goalie situation for this season.

Agreed on not screwing up the goalie situation this year. Was just replying to the post on what it would take to get Holts in STL. Take away the desire for picks/prospects and the Goalie situation...do you think value is fair?

Probably a 1st + Kyrou. The goalie trade market is weird and it's always hard to judge the trade value of a goalie.

Because we have another franchise goalie who is about to be ready for the NHL.

I think this trade is better suited for next summer. Try to stay in win-now mode this year, and hopefully Holtby plays very well to increase his value.

Your not getting players for a goalie. You’d have to take back Allen and it would be for picks and prospects

Next summer, when the Caps have to look at whether they can fit long term contract extensions for both Backstrom and Holtby in another year, they might consider Holtby for Kyrou and Kostin.

Right now, while the Caps are in a four way tie for 2nd in the Metropolitan, where two teams end up in playoff position and two end up a point behind Buffalo for the second wildcard, a Holtby trade begins Tarasenko, plus whatever it takes to get New Jersey to send Kinkade to Washington.

If you're up for trading away prospects, and you're with me as far as Holtby for Tarasenko, you might be able to get Wilson or Oshie for picks and prospects, since the Caps don't need three right wings over $5M. If you don't want to trade Tarasenko for a goalie, go tell a team that isn't in a fight for two playoff spots with Columbus and Pittsburgh.

The Blues aren't currently asking calmly for a goalie. They're 28th overall, panicking. I think it's worth discussing what combination of prospects and picks the Caps would take for Samsonov vs Copley, but it's more likely that STL gets Kinkade, Hutchinson or Koskinen for cheap, immediate help. Maybe they sign Kari Lehtonen? Or maybe they rebuild.

Caps def don't do this right now. Copley is honestly playing better than Holtby right now, but over the course of a full season I fully expect that not to hold, and especially come playoffs. Caps could use another young skilled winger, because Bura is a disaster right now and not getting any better.

A little nit pick with your fourth line there, but I wouldn't be benching Jaskin for nearly anyone right now. The dude has a 64.5% CF in 10 games with the Caps. He's on fire, such a brilliant waiver pickup. I'm honestly benching DSP and sticking Jaskin on the 4th line or maybe even the 3rd line with Eller. Whichever line needs a boost.

Thanks. I do think the Blues could cheaply trade the Caps for Pheonix Copley, again. He seems to be NHL ready, and the Caps have two more solid goalie prospects behind him.

Sorry to get snippy, but this post was pretty ridiculous: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/907822

I do think that Schenn and Soshnikov are guys who could fit in well in Washington. I don't know that Edmundson makes a big difference, offensively, with all the depth Washington has at LHD, but I like his hit totals. Jaskin got a tryout on the top line last night. Drew a penalty and had a scoring chance but looked kinda nervous. That 1R spot on the Caps works well with a grinder and the other two guys speak Russian.. Without moving a goalie, if STL wants to trade Jaskin for Soshnikov, it could happen.

Going to just two prospects in net while Washington is tied on the edge of playoff position with three good teams could hurt team confidence a bit, but adding a big offensive piece like Schenn and a tough defenseman like Edmundson is not a half bad idea. I mean.... I'd really aim for Parayko or Tarasenko, but I'm sure that doesn't help the Blues make the playoffs this year, either.

What kind of picks/prospects would STL be willing to offer for a goalie who's won a Vezina and a Stanley Cup, and has the third best playoff save percentage, all time? Why not just talk to Dallas about Bishop or LA about Quick? Seems like Washington is not in a position to give up anyone off their roster without receiving immediate roster players, but at least make an offer, if you're going to criticize everyone else's ideas?

Thanks for pointi.g out Jaskin. He's been very good so far!
