Steel alone might be worth the above picks. Henrique might be worth another 3rd? Ducks fans had a conversation and didnt' mention Kuznetsov, and then a Sens fan posted "Washington declines." So, you know, he might have some value to some fans of teams besides Minnesota. I think Columbus wants a #1C more than Anaheim or Ottawa, though. I posted a Domi+++ deal for Kuznetsov on their side and nobody batted an eyelash. So, you know, yeah. Kuznetsov is worth more than a 1st. But if Landeskog signs in WSH as a UFA then maybe they have to let him go cheaper to get under the cap by the start of the season? It's fine. I don't hate it. But a lot of times when you take a guy who you're used to seeing in 1st line minutes and stick him on a 2nd line, he gets fewer points, sort of like Kuznetsov this year.</div></div>
I never liked Kuzy playing 1C. Again, as I've mentioned before..."elite" centers get better at Kuzy's age...not regress. "Elite" centers normally(with exceptions) can win Faceoffs and normally are not hidden on the defensive end. Just because Kuzy had a couple of good years on stacked teams, doesn't make him anything special. If he had kept getting better and added to his game over the last few years this would be a different conversation, but he hasn't. Add too that the huge drop in offensive production and you're looking at a upper mid pack center at best.
Oh....and I do believe he got pulled from our PP1 as well...not good, not good at all

So...just looked up Paul Stastny and what he got traded for in 2018. Stastny was a former 70 pt getter, A Faceoff Stud, NOT a defensive liability and no off ice issues I can remember. He got a 1st, a 4th and Erik Foley(yeah Who??). Albeit, Stastny was a little older than Kuzy at the time, but with the Faceoffs and defense it's at worst a wash...so yeah...keep saying Kuzy is worth a ton...NHL history doesn't dictate that. ;)

Don't care about what the rest of the board is offering. Dude is trending down. (51 pts per 82 this year). Don't see many teams selling the farm for a 51 pt center that can't win Faceoffs.

I doubt Vrana would take max term until after Ovi retires. If he is smart, he will try and get a 3 - 4 year bridge deal at a reasonable price and then get 1st line money after Ovi leaves. Agreed...4.5 mil per year might be a little low, but again he is only playing 15 mpg.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>Well, it's important to consider context in conjunction with advanced stats. Vrana and Kuznetsov are having good years in possession metrics, but they're also getting sheltered minutes, with extremely high percent offensive zone starts. I don't know if that's all Lavy not trusting the younger guys defensively, or if he's truly trying to maximize their scoring ability. Maybe both?</div></div>
Agreed with taking advanced stats in context. Kuzy to me IS a liability defensively. For a guy that is supposed to be an "elite" center, he has a lot of holes in his game. Can't trust him at the dot, so defensive zone starts are a no go AND his offensive production has been trending down each year since the cup. I LOVE what he did for the Caps during the cup run, but it seems like he got paid and started coasting.

He is the perfect example of why advanced stats are so over rated. He looks great in Corsi, Fenwick AND PDO...but still is considered a liability on defense. Also, the fact that 3 different coaches have kept him under 15 MPG might say a lot.

FYI - Never have liked you Brady...your overvaluing of Caps players has always been disgusting. (See Burakovsky and Mojo). As a Caps fan since 1990 I politely ask you to find another team. ;)
Obviously kidding...but seriously dude...get a grip on reality. Stats aren't everything. If Nate Schmidt can get traded to Vancouver for as little as he did, this is at least a plausible trade. Definitely not terrible. And the end result looks pretty darn good considering the depth for playoff hockey.

No...these trades are not really far off. But ok. Wilson's value is so low based on discipline issues(not talent). Love the guy, but if the Caps ever needed to trade him it would be hard. Also, Eller is a 3rd line center...the best, but still a third liner. Luke's intangibles are equal or greater than Eller's, add in Name and the Caps would have to do more. ;)

In fact, if you compare zone starts with corsi on that year's Caps, the only guy who stands out as significantly worse than Boyd Gordon is Matt Bradley. And hey, do you remember who it was who started the rumor that Semin was lazy, at the end of that year, before not getting offered a contract? Right. https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/WSH/2009.html</div></div>
Didn't I tell you not to give me that corsi crap?? Such an overrated psuedo-stat. Especially when using it against role players. And did you really just bash Bradley. One of the most beloved hard nose guys the Caps have ever had? That's crossing a line there. 😉
Do you remember Semin leaving DC to a going away party. This team couldn't get rid of him quick enough. Hmm...maybe he was on to something? 🤔

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>I still disagree with the idea of Kuznetsov as a center, but the Caps have two other credible 1LW options, so what else are they supposed to do with him? I think he's a terrific top-six supporting player who sometimes goes on a hot streak and leads the Caps in scoring. I used to really believe that it took more work and skill to be a defensive forward, but given that it takes something like 30 shot attempts to score a goal, and that usually when one goes in, a defenseman or a goalie looks worse than the defensive forward who messed up before them, it might just be a position with a fair amount of job security. There are defensive forwards who are great, and some years Boyd Gordon was among them, but other years I think he could have coasted worse than Semin ever did, and nobody would have known.</div></div>
Well Eli, Kuzy IS a center. That's where he has played 99% of his career. And that is why they drafted him. So just because you disagree that is where he should play, doesn't change the fact he plays center.
Also, by saying Boyd could have coasted and nobody would know, you've got the nail on the head. *Could have* are the key words. But nothing indicates it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>That's what people say when a 5th or 6th round average kid like Travis Boyd somehow breaks through, keeps improving, and becomes a fringe NHLer. Boyd Gordon was a top-twenty overall bust who improved his faceoff skills enough to hang on in the NHL for a decade, but never put in the work to translate the offensive skills that got him drafted into a thirty point season. Boyd Gordon had the talent to get picked ahead of Duncan Keith, Tomas Fleishman, Alex Steen, and Jarret Stoll. He never got half as many points as those guys because he barely had a pro-level work ethic. But he was good at faceoffs.</div></div>
Boyd may not have lived up to his junior ranking, many offensive mind....*career stats search*...
Let me start over. Boyd maxed at 81 pts for Red Deer. That's not a offensive powerhouse in the Canadian junior leagues. Boyd not only was an face off wiz, but was a great penalty kill guy. He also took most of his starts in the defensive zone, so don't start giving me that corsi crap. He even was in the top 50 for Selke 6 TIMES. How many players of his profile can say that??? All I just said adds up to a hard working STUD! You don't make it as a grinder in the NHL without work ethic.
Kuzy is supposed to be a Center. And an ELITE one at that. He has the point production, but hard working elite centers learn to add to their game. He is null and void on our PK, he is a liability at the dot and his production and value has dropped since the cup. That's not hard work.
To circle back to the Landeskog trade...Gabe is even with and arguably a more consistent point getter. Gabe CAN win Faceoffs. Gabe has some flexibility to move to the wing. Gabe is an upgrade in just about every category. So yes, I'm willing to trade a once 70 pt scorer for another once 70 pt scorer with more upside. And yes I'm willing to add some picks....
😁 This is fun.
