Would be nice to get Nylander back but theirs no way we can sign Matthews and Marner and keep some 3rd and 4th line players without getting rid of a contract like Marleau or Zaitsev.

dont knock it till you try it.....numerous simulations have been done and show its possible, even with Matthews at 12M and Marner at 8M.....its just ppl that are afraid TML will put it thru and push it to Stanley, finally ( my stance on D is known tho )

curious, what would the thought by leafs fans to move a guy like Kadri to help with the Cap. You would actually gain good young assets on ELCs back with him instead of having to add assets like good picks or prospects with Marleau Zaitsev to gain cap. Like Chicago having to add TT with Bickell to get rid of him in Carolina.

I think they get a bridge done, but just to let you know, you're starting to sound like Senators fans that kept insisting that they were going to get Sergachev, Tyler Johnson, Cal Foote, a 1st, and a 2nd for Erik Karlsson.

Several things.

1) In the cap era, being overly loyal to depth players is a recipe for disaster.
2) The leafs can absolutely have a solid lineup with all the stars signed.
3) If they lose one of Kapanen, Johnsson or Leivo but keep Matthews Marner and Nylander, is that a problem?

People that say TO Can't afford their team are one of 2 types of people.

1) People who hate the Leafs more than they like hockey and therefore have no ability to reason or think with logic. They just want TO to fail so they can feel better. (this is a sad reality for a tonne of people on this site)
2) People who think stars need to take pay cuts so that money can be spend on depth players. These are old school thinkers who can't see that the old model is broken and leads to a lot of depth guys on bad contracts.

TO will put the priority on the big 3 and after that they will squeeze the depth guys. If Kapanen wants to stay in TO, then take a 1 year show me deal for 1 million. If you have another strong year (This is assuming he has a good year this year) then he can get a longer term deal after Marleau is off the books.

On top Marleau, he has a NMC so he's not going anywhere and Zaitsev could very well be TO's best defenseman in his own zone. His contract is fine and I think it will look like a steal in the near future.

I see them all the time, and they have two of three things in common.
1. they underpay a whole bunch of guys.
2. they have the cap set at way higher than it will be.
3. not a full roster.

womp womp. doesn't work.

That is a short sighted move that will harm the team. The Leafs will have a young and suspect defence next season but after next season they are back to having cap flexibility. There is no need to panic and trade an amazingly beneficial contract in Kadri just to clear some cap space. Just wait it out and see what happens.

I can't wait Nylander to sign because I am sick of hearing about Nylander trades. That is the point of this, rumour has it he's looking at a 6 year deal under 7 million. Any by posting a ACGM without any trades, I sound like a sens fan who wanted a kings randsom for Karlsson.

Umm........I really have no clue what you are talking about.

The only way kapanen puts up 50 points is if he plays an entire year with Matthews. Which he won't since Nylander is needed to get that line going at 5v5 and Babs won't demote Marleau (Which he should). So if he does, I'd still tell him that he can't get anywhere near what he wants on a deal this year but I'd be willing to give him a 1 year deal and if he replicates his 1 year of great hockey, then he can get a bigger deal, or I'd trade him. He's a depth guy, I love him but depth guys can and should be replace when they price themselves out of the team. This is why they have so many resources in player development.

He is definitely one of the guys who wants to see TO burn. Everything from him is TO's defence sucks. I'm sure he also wants to say their offense sucks as well but he knows how insane that would sound so he refrains.

Eklund is a clown. Dreger, Lebrun and McKenzie are the best. Most others are questionable. TSN also mentioned that discussions are more positive than they had been.

gotcha. the way you worded it made me think you were trying to say that Nylander was looking for 6.75, and the leafs weren't giving it to him, not that it was a possible settling point.

I still think that would be weird if he settled for that on a 6 year, and the article did say that the number was purely a guess.

are your brain cells so clogged up from tugging it to your ACGMs that you have the memory of a goldfish? I hope the leafs are awesome. I don't want this team to get blown up. The Atlantic is infinitely more fun when the habs and leafs are good. We've gone over this several times. just a realist.

True but LeBrun also mentioned that numbers are getting closer and it sounds that 6 years may be the preferred number for both sides. Personally, I so done with all the speculation and trade ideas. They are all dumb and this is just too much nonsense.

You say this, and then whenever anyone discusses anything about the Leafs you jump on it and say how they can't win because they don't have Boston's defence. Any suggestion anyone puts forward, you say it isn't possible because all the Leafs players are overrated and aren't worth half of what people think they are worth.

yes.

i don't think as constituted the leafs team will win a cup.

i think 99% of the trades put out by leaf fans are hi-freaking-larious. It's been a bunch of Nylander for Parayko crap. There have been some where I thought the leafs were giving up too much, not many of them but a few, and said as much. No, Nylander isn't getting the leafs Parayko, I'm sorry that hurt your feelings.
