Habs Warming Spots for Kotkanemi/Poehling

Description
this build is based upon Possession both at Center and on the wing while giving us an even balance of left and right handed shots . we've 4/4 lines capable of scoring and 3/4 capable of playing a defensive role with mentors like AA ,TP and MP there to guide the top 3 lines youth.

on Defense i kept it simple with combinations that worked last year with Alzner playing his best hockey with Juulsen ,Mete with Petry and Reilly with Benn(and Petry).

this isnt a Cup Team as it would be unrealistic and naive to think these changes could do such a thing but they buy our two big center prospects time .(really like Kotkanemi he loves using his size to push people around and MTL needs that for 25 plus years now )
Transactions
1.
MTL
  1. Haula, Erik
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (VGK)

CHI gets 2 former cup winners back to help in their weak area's.

Shaw is one of the NHL's best Secondary Faceoff players with 55-57% on average which with the addition of Kruger will help round out their bottom 6 defensively and possession wise.

with Shaw at 2m per season he is a great value for CHI where he won 2 cups as a spark plug in the playoffs for them and with his low cap he can easily be flipped if they choose.

  2. Shaw, Andrew (1 900 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
MTL can try and re-establish AA's value and flip him in a year or two.

Montreal won’t be in a position to deal fest round picks until 2022 or so. Next three years will most likely all be picks between 5-15 and can’t throw those away while trying to create an elite prospect pool.

Vegas isn’t doing that.

Don’t be surprised when Poehling pulls a Vesey, Kerfoot, Butcher, Hayes and goes 4 years of college and becomes a free agent.

I like the Chi deal a lot more. I don't think the Habs should be dealing 1sts any time soon. Realistically all it takes is for Kotkaniemi or Poehling to bust and they're in a rough spot again.

I don’t think MTL should deal it’s first rounder.. however, to make this deal happen (which I would like), maybe the Habs can send their 2nd and VGK throws in a 3rd or a 4th to even things up.

In the CHI deal, not sure the Hawks will take Niemi so maybe the Habs need to throw in a C+/B- prospect instead, but good ideas !

Look at Ottawa as a cautionary tale. If you're a legitimate Cup contender, trading a #1 makes sense sometimes. Almost never at the start of a season and certainly not 3 years out.

never trade a 1st round pick, unless you in the playoffs and need to add a piece.

Thanks for thinking of Chi, but we have 2 goalies already at over $9M both with NMC's so adding a 3rd goalie is worthless. Thus this makes the trade AA for Shaw. Not a chance Chi does that. We have plenty of 3rd and 4th liners so don't need Shaw. For AA, MTL is giving up a 2nd round pick or Patches and Chi giving a prospect and pick back.

sure , because most NCAA players do that , o wait they dont :P

TSN discussed this several times this summer and the reality is 90% of players drafted at loyal to the organizations that gave them disposable income during the Development .
with his twin brothers getting no love or interest from any teams all it would take is MTL signing them to secure Poehlings loyalty (like CHI did Sikura )

either way he's a 2nd /3rd line center at best and Kotkanemi is the guy we're banking on developing into a top line center .

which can be said for 15-20 NHL teams but i think both will be in the NHL no doubt but whether they play top 6 or bottom 6 is the real question.
Timmons since replacing larry carriere who busted 4 first round picks in his tenure as Assistant GM tasked with overseeing development and thus far everything from management to players in our system has been change and upgraded including signing a great deal of LD and Centers along with Right Handed shoats (all weak area's for us because of players busted in Carriere system)

Timmons is on the rise ever since leaving the drafting department to his hand picked replacement and friend Eric Crawford who's been awesome for us since 2014.
each year Timmons gets a Promotion and rebuilds whatever division he's in and now as assistant GM its only a matter of time before he Replace's Marc Bergavin .
Timmons has build the habs organization from bottom to the top since 2014 and is the clear successor who not only speaks french but has almost 18 years experience working for MTL in a variety of roles.
the era of the Bergavins and Carriere's is over as both have seen their power quelled by the President of Hockey Operations Mr.Molson .

Timmons system is built to Succeed and unlike those before him he wont rush a DLR ,Andrighetto ,Nygren or Beaulieu making them Waiver Eligible long before their development is truly over putting them in a position to fail.
Timmons will leave guys oversea's or in NCCA until they are ready turning his focus in the meantime on Undrafted Prospects to fill the void

AA is a has been player who serves a purpose
honestly keep him for now by trade deadline CHI will have dumped his cap for picks .
CHI is trying to clear cap hoping to use it to lure Free Agents there willing to take less to play with Teows and Kane.
it may not be MTL but he's 100% getting dumped CHI's committments to JT and PK make it impossible for them to wait it out and rebuild

Hey, I’m a Timmons fan. But you can never tell what’ll happen. Injury, disease - look at Martin Reway.

And most people don’t win the lottery. A few do.

The four that have weren’t considered and aren’t first liners either. Has nothing to do with it.

1 more year of college hockey, college parties, and college girls and then you can sign with whoever you want. Or sign with a team that you have no ties to, has not been successful the entire time you have been alive, and have to pay taxes in 2 countries. Which would you do? Be a pretty easy decision for me. Depends on what he wants though.
