I'm a Leaf fan and think a realistic. , I can't just don't think one player is going to that much difference, But that's my opinion. Look at the lack of playoff appearances and poor team playoffs records for many of the what are known as stud Dmen....Hedman, Karlsson, Burns, Jones. But if you think Jones makes that much difference, that's OK too,

No team has a one two punch like Tavares-Matthews as well though. There has to be elite depth throughout the roster

That would be an ideal trade for Toronto. The loss of Nylander can be recouped through free agency like Panarin. Jones’s cap hit is amazing to build around. For that reason, I can’t see Columbus trading him.

The poster stated that elite RD men, aka. Erik Karlsson, Seth Jones, Victor Hedman, e.t.c haven't won the cup yet and implied that an elite defenceman won't help win the cup. However, those teams that haven't won the cup yet don't hold scoring depth and a 1-2 punch the Leafs have. Pittsburg doesn't fit in the discussion because they already have won 3 Stanley cups and had a flawless team with the 1-2 punch and Letang or Schultz depending on the year you look at.

Tavares is an established player in his prime while Matthews is an elite goal scorer. Draisaitl needs to pick up the goals and their back in the discussion, not to mention them missing an elite RD as well

I highly doubt Columbus moves Jones for anything.

He is a n obvious #1 RHD on a great contract at age 24 who gets Norris consideration.
