11m US is 11m Us in any city. And it’s not about the $$$. He wants to win. Sorry but you aren't in the drivers seat on this one.

MTL selecting Kotkanieimi shows me they aren't overly confident in acquiring a C, therefore they drafted one. Just a hunch

I wouldn't bet on Pacioretty being a Hab when the season starts, there were reports that a trade was all but completed with the Kings pending a contract extension but Pacioretty wanted more money then the Kings were willing to pay so the deal fell through. The Kings moved on and signed Kovalchuk. Then, Pacioretty fired his agent, he wants out of Montreal. The latest rumor is the Dallas Stars talks are heating up...

Tavares will be either staying with the Islanders or going to the Leafs. He and his Fiancee are both from the GTA, the wanting to be close to family when signing this next long term deal seems to make the most sense for the next chapter in his career and family life, especially considering the Leafs are starting what could be an incredible era for the Leafs. The Leafs have already been cited to be making videos for presentation and securing potential sponsors and endorsements to make the most lucrative money offer possible. 10-11 million in salary per year and 3-6 million in endorsements. If his decision was purely fueled by money I think Vegas would be the choice just from what he would save from taxes alone but he has ties to 2 teams, The Islanders because it is where he has been for 9 years and Toronto because that is where he is from, where his family is and where he dreamed of playing for the first 18 years of his life.

There is a tax Calculator on CF site here https://www.capfriendly.com/post_tax_calculator if anyone's curious
Quite large difference between some cities (Montreal is the 2nd worst in the league, and some states only pay Federal Tax, no state tax) Kind of wish there was some equality there frown

I wish CapFriendly hadn't put up this calculator because it's meaningless in determining what players pay in taxes.
Most players are "incorporated" as enterSotainers especially for high earners. So some/much of their taxes can be sheltered/
Just because a player played in Quebec, he doesn't necessarily pay personal income tax as Quebec resident. Most players "reside" in different provinces/states or countries from where they work.
Just saying folks shouldn't look at a the highest personal income rate in various jurisdictions as way of determining "take home pay" for players.

Montreal has one great attraction for Tavares: the best wing to center talent ratio of any team in recent memory. Pacioretty, Drouin, Gallagher, Lehkonen, and Domi could each be a top six winger on any team next year. Pacioretty, Drouin, an Gallagher could each play top line with most teams, and Domi's pretty close, and should be improving. Their goaltending is solid, and I think this build is right that the're one top four defenseman and one proven top center away from contending. If exchange rates figure into people's decision of where to plan a weekend camping trip, then they absolutely could figure into where someone wants to spend eight years on a fixed income of only 11 million dollars per year.... but I think if the money's about the same, then he has to compare hockey life and life away from hockey. Montreal's a beautiful city with a great hockey tradition, whose hockey team was almost as good last year without Tavares as the Islanders were with Tavares, so if they can fix their defense they could certainly be a reasonable landing spot. Good luck!
