MIN
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2018 (SJS)
Détails additionnels:
Rights to William Nylander

Wild get an offensively gifted young center and a right shot D prospect. Nylander can contribute now in our top 6 while Liljegren needs time to develop in Iowa.
TOR
  1. Niederreiter, Nino
  2. Staal, Eric
Détails additionnels:
Toronto gets a very good top 6 center who can easily replace Nylander's production, especially with the amount of talent Toronto has. The Leafs also get a great top 6 possesional winger in Nino, he had a rough year due to an injruy but he will be looking to bounce back next year and has shown he can consistently score at least 20 goals.
2.
MIN
  1. Kassian, Zack
  2. Larsson, Adam
  3. Puljujärvi, Jesse
Détails additionnels:
Wild get a big physical defenseman in Larsson who brings a gritty game we lack. Wild also get a young right shot winger in Puljujarvi, he hasn't quite lived up to his potential in the NHL yet but he is still very young. Edmonton frees up almost 2 million in cap by shedding Kassian.
EDM
  1. Olofsson, Gustav
  2. Spurgeon, Jared
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2018 (SJS)
Détails additionnels:
Edmonton gets an upgrade to their blue line in Edmonton native Jared Spurgeon. He's not as physical as Larsson but don't let his size fool you, Spurge is not afraid to play the body and is a workhorse in both ends of the ice. He has great awareness and is great at breaking up rushes. Olofsson has some potential, and was often compared to Brodin last year, but he still has a ways to go. He is ready to play a 3rd pairing role. Wild add the 2nd they acquired in Toronto trade to sweeten the deal.

It's really an easy pass by the Leafs. Niederreiter, has really had only one good season. And at age 25 is near his peak, Nylander has much more growth potential, The fact that you put Nylander at centre, is where the Leafs might need Nylander. Staal has just one year left on his contract, Leafs aren't trading their potential # 1 Dman for that.

Ok. I've seen some Toronto teams signing or trading for a LW, Nino would be a great addition to Toronto if you're looking for a winger. Staal put up 42 goals last year, and while it's unlikely he does that again he could absolutely put up 30. I understand you have Matthews as your 1C, but Staal would be a great 2C and Kadri would be put on your 3rd line. Matthews - Staal - Kadri is an incredible top 9 center group.

Nino has had 3 seasons of scoring 20 goals and had 18 last year with only 63 games. He bruised his bone early in the season and played with it bruised the entire year and still put up almost 20. I think if he had been healthy he would have been very close to 30, if not over. I can see Liljegren not being given up without some more return, however.

I know goals and points don't necessary make the value of a player, but look at the stats, Nylander is superior to Nino. So why would the Leafs even consider that trade? Your suggestion that Staal would add a great top 3 centre is true but so what Nylander at centre....and with a lot longer term than Staal. Liljegren who is the youngest player in the AHL and playing well, is close to untouchable.
Leafs are stacked at the wing position with Grundstrom, Johnson, Kapanen going to full time duty, certainly don't need Nino.

Staal would be a great add given his position, contract and production...but I don't see the scenario where the Leafs would entertain that kind of asking price.

I think Minnesota should have asked for more from Toronto, obviously the team is going nowhere, all their stars want out and they are a no talent group. Should be Staal for Matthews and Nylander straight up. lol

This makes absolutely no sense for Toronto. Lets trade our super young still getting better top line RW who can be our answer at 3C, potentialy top pair RHD and throw a 2nd on top of that for a LW (who we have tons of in the system) and an aging past his prime C who has a year left on his contract. Ya no thanks.

Staal would be a great fit in Tor. Just not at the cost of Nylander or Liligren. Maybe 2018 1st plus a prospect?

I think if the Wild are seriously considering moving Staal, it's for a player like Nylander. A young offensive right shot C/RW is what we need. Staal alone wouldn't be enough for Nylander, but what about some sort of package centered around Staal for Nylander?

Just as an outsider, it would probably be Staal and 2018 1st (maybe even something else) for Nylander. Staal had a great year, but I think the Leafs could look at other options for a a veteran center that wouldn't cost them Nylander. Leafs need an impact RHD, so if Wild built deal around Spurgeon or 1 for 1 swap with Dumba, Leafs would be enticed. The Wild have every right to ask for a player like Nylander in return for Staal, that just tells me as an outsider that Staal won't be traded.

Also an "outsider" - this is insane thinking. Staal will be 34 at the beginning of next season and has 1 year left on his contract - no way in hell Nylander is even in the conversation. Buffalo's Nylander maybe, but not Toronto's. William Nylander has probably 10-15 good years ahead of him, Staal has 1 or 2.

Your Dumba 1-for-1 idea has merit, for sure. Dumba is young enough and plays a position of need in Toronto, so that's certainly something to have a conversation about.
