Blockbuster Trade Rumor - Toews, MTL, Traveres

Description
FOR THE RECORD...I don't like it, but if the rumors are true, then I see the following happening as it will take a lot to grab Toews and Alzner is not working in MTL and they need D so swapping Murphy and Alzner makes sense for both. If Toew is gone, then there is no doubt Chi is going after Taveres and Anisimov is likely staying.

I don’t see MTL taking on another $10.5 million contract. Hopefully learn from Chicago that one of those is enough. Especially for a declining 50 point center.

But it's not just points with Toews and everyone in the league knows it. It's two way play, it's top 3 FO %'s, it's PP, and leadership. I think MTL is going to move Price but not to Chicago. If they do, then Toews is a great pickup and certainly worth the cost of Chucky and the #3.

Coming out of Montreal Hockey news...nothing from Chicago sources but Montreal hockey news sources have said they confirmed Chicago and Mtl have or are talking about a potential trade for Toews. Just because teams are talking or have doesn't mean squat but interesting that Chicago would entertain the thought.

You mean Eklund on twitter? If it's not from Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, or Elliotte Friedman it's not a reliable source.

I think your right about the trade value just because of his reputation. But I don’t think he is worth anything close to that. You take away his cups and look at bare facts, he is a #2 center. ROR is better then him and would be cheaper to get.

I know he is good defensively but MTL shouldn’t be looking for that type of player, they need scoring and Toews doesn’t add anything offensively. Especially when you consider how much scoring your giving to Chicago, Galchenyuk could put up 60 points and Zadina could come in as a rookie and put up 50 points, all for a defensive center who might get 50 points.

MTL also doesn’t need anymore leadership, Weber and Price take care of that. Sign Pleks for cheap and have him do all the work Toews would do and keep Galchenyuk and Zadina to score goals.

I don't like it from Chicago's standpoint either unless it gets the #3 pick. Pleks isn't Toews so can't even compare that. I actually think this is good for both teams if Montreal can move Price, but I personally don't like it like you don't.

Pretty sure you do know NMC players get traded regularly, or maybe you don't which is why you gave this 2 stars for not knowing better? As long as the player would agree, then it happens. It's no secret in Chicago, Toews could be considering a change of scenery; he did sell his Lincoln Park mansion this season and made a considerable down size to a condo.

But he isnt worth that contract one bit maybe 7-7.5 range but anything over is overpay and thats why he will not get as much return unless chicago holds back quite a bit.

Pleks can still play a shut down role, he showed that this playoffs when he was the only successful center against the Bruins for Toronto and at $1 million bucks that’s not a bad deal.

I just don’t see how it benefits MTL in any real way. Adding him just screws the cap over and probably doesn’t move us any closer to winning a cup.

For a team that needs a 1C, like Montreal, taking Toews isn't far fetched and hell, maybe the Hawks hold $1.5M. He's worth more then $7M...fair value would be $8.5M IMO

There's also discussion about moving Price as part of the deal. If that's the case, Toews makes a lot of sense in Montreal. Pleks was at $3M, who knows what his new deal is but he isn't close to Toews in ability given both of their ages.

Price and Toews both have full no move clauses, I’d like to be in those meetings where they get asked lol

“Hey Jonathan I know you win three cups with us but how would you like to go to MTL?”

“Well I do like Carey, we got along at the Olympics”

‘Ugh ya about that.........’

“French Accent”

“ Heyyy Careyy you ready for some deep dish pizza?”

“Ummm what?”

‘We would like to send you to Chicago.....”

‘Ow, well I did like Toews at the Olympics’

“ Well ya see.......”

Players with NMC do not get traded regularly unless they are in the final 2 or so years of their contract. Rick Nash is pretty much the only player to waive his NMC to be traded with many years left on his contract. It's not impossible, but it's not common at all. You might be thinking of NTCs?

And didn't Toews and his gf buy a new place together? Not that real estate can tell you **** lol.

Ooh, I see - your insecurity in your own masculinity has made it so you're unable to google simple facts like history of NMC trades. That must be rough frown frown

IF Real Estate Transactions could tell any story at all...it would be much more likely a player buys a big home or builds a big home to stay in a location. Like Seabrook buying two lots tearing down and building a new home. Think about how long and how much planning that would take...AND that was (2) years ago. I can't see him 1 year removed from a cup...just freshly bounce from the playoffs being...I quit, I'm going to start planning my eventual trade two years from now. Doesn't make sense. This is Eklund...making money. It's the only place I've seen this rumor and it's how he makes a living. NOW...do I believe Bowman is listening to ALL options??? Yes, MB gives him a call...Bowman listens...that's Bowman's job. He's supposed to listen.
