This is probably the most realistic one that I've seen yet. Maybe chuck a 2nd rounder headed towards the Habs as well. Habs fans probably won't be happy because they aren't getting your 3 best players, but IMO if they're getting your best prospect back, this is the type of deal they're going to have to make.

Either that, or roll the dice and try to move him for more at the trade deadline.

No interest in a Patches rental for the cost of a recent 1st still on his ELC. LW isn't a team need, and promising RHS FWDs (possibly a center) is a team need.

Lindgren, Juulsen, Chucky (kind of), and Gally would be the MTL assets the Wild should be looking at.

Poehling is nice too, but he's entering his Jr year now, so MN (hometown boy) might be able to snatch him up as a college FA if he goes back for his Sr. year. He's in that weird limbo college guys can fall into. Trading his rights at some point to MN might be in MTL's best interest. I'm just speculating here, but Wild fans were going through something similar with Belpedio and Greenway recently.

This would be a monumental failure of a trade by MB.

How can you look at trade comparisons and make sense of this?

I'm just experimenting, trying to get MIN fans opinion. Clearly some of them wouldn't do it

this is hilarious, Montreals in desperate need of a C and you think poehling, their first rounder last year, is going to burn his entire contract in college and then try to go to another team??? hell no, he'll be in college one more year, join montreal at the end of next year, play his first full season with the team and then a decision will be made... likely a contract extension

I agree, taking a cap dump and a young center who still hasn't proven he can be an NHL top-6 is not enough.
I like Kunin but the value is just not there.

No chance I make this trade if I run the Wild. Read Wabit's analysis above...he's spot on!

OK fair enough but don't mistake why they are saying no. Its not because the value isn't there. Its because they aren't in a position to need an elite winger to help them get over the hump and I agree. Minny needs other things more than a winger which they already ave plenty of.

1 full year of Pacioretty is worth a 1st and a prospect, not a cap dump and a prospect. Thats not opinion, that's just based off any player trade comparison the past 3-5 years This trade is selling low. Really low. Kunin is not a future star or anything. Good prospect but lets tamper expectations a little bit too.

MIN has alot of versatile wingers who can play both LW-RW. IMO it wouldn't be such a big problem to accommodate Pacioretty's LW eligibility. The expiring contract is a legit concern. But that would be up to the Wild to figure it out if they really feel Pacioretty brings a certain dimension to the team that could help them in a stacked division.

Don't get me wrong, Pacioretty is a very good player. But...the last thing the Wild needs is another post-prime left-shot winger...who, by the way, will be needing a new contract after next season...

IYO what is it that MIN lacks and needs to add to the roster to get over the hump?

Quality. They have a plethora of "good" players. Time to start trading some of those good players for one elite player. Unfortunately those trades take time to make. They are at a crossroads right now. All I know is Greenway, EEK and Kunin need full time top 6-9 that means a couple guys need to go. Coyle, Granlund and Brodin are my choices to be moved out.

Obviously if Parise and Koivu can be moved out that would be preferable but NMC's so prolly not.

You think Pacioretty will bring a better return during the summer or TDL 2019?

Honestly it depends on two things. What the Habs will do this offseason and who they draft.

If you keep Pacioretty till the deadline, you play him like crazy and in favorable situations. Get him back into the 30 goal greatness we're accustomed to. If you trade him, you do so for picks and prospects ONLY. None of this roster player BS. That would mean selling Patches low and having to settle for a player probably not as good as Pacioretty just because he had a bad year. Picks and prospects are more of a gamble for the habs but less of a loss for a competing team. They would be more willing to pay full price with picks and prospects than ready now roster players.

I heard on the radio MB was trying to move Pacioretty for Trocheck....thats stupid. He's targeting the wrong players. Now he's probably going to settle for Bjugstad whose a nice player but not nearly as lethal as Pacioretty. That 15th pick or Borgstrom or Tippett with something else is what he should be asking for.

So let me get this straight. MB wants to trade Pacioretty 1 for 1 for Trotchek or For Bjugstad+ Borgstrom or Tippet or the 15 OAP?

Zucker (probably at his peak value), Spurgeon, and Coyle would be who I was looking to move. Suter's injury/recovery makes Brodin less expendable (imo). Granlund could be moved if he wasn't in the team's long-term plans, but he's too valuable to the current team (unless something major is coming back).

Kunin and Greenway need AHL time (1st line, all situations) for at least part of next season.
-Kunin losses this off-season to ACL (or MCL) recovery. I'd like to see him start lighting up the scorecard in the AHL before moving him to the NHL.
-Greenway needs to refine his game and learn to use his big body more effectively. I think the Wild want to see if he can become a center, like he was last year in college and the Olympics.

re to Wild FWDs swapping sides: Yes they have the ablity to play LW or RW, but the team is so unbalanced with 11 LHS and 1 RHS FWDs adding another LHS doesn't accomplish much. Patches might be the best wing on the Wild, but he wouldn't be a huge upgrade over the ones they already have (when healthy). It's just not a good fit for what the Wild would have to give up in trade.

re to what the Wild need: play in another Division besides the Central. sarcasm Seriously they need a Stamkos/Kucherov type of combo. And they need some team health, injuries really took their toll this year.

not quite. Apparently he started with Pac for Trocheck straight up. Knowing that wouldn't fly but it seems he is shifting the nego to Bjugstad+. What the + is no one knows yet. I'm saying screw both ideas. Go for Borgstrom+, Tippett+, 15OV+, etc. Not all at the same time.

Trotchek is for real, I'd do 1 for 1 for him, but moving him FLA would be taking a step backwards. I read somewhere that Borgstrom is untouchable. Bjugstad++ I'd do it, and Tippet ++ I'd do.
