Vatrano has played in the NHL however isn't that great or that young. I mentioned before that trades like these players > picks.

Right now, I give the edge to Florida.

Vatrano has an elite release and just couldn't get ice time in Boston. Maybe with a bigger opportunity for TOI, he can find his game and become a 20+ goal scorer like many thought he would.

It's interesting that he lit up the AHL and had a great showing in the WC with 3G/5A in 10GP, but just could get it going at the NHL level

I'm surprised Boston gave up on him so soon. Hasn't had a good year but could still have a future in the NHL.

Not a terrible deal for Boston but not great ... Florida wins, Boston loses but not by that much.

He really had no where to go. He'd been passed by guy like DeBrusk, Heinen, Schaller and Kuraly that he couldn't get TOI. BOS held onto him as long as they could to see if he could turn things around, but it just didn't happen. He got a few chance to make an impression and just didn't. If FLA can allow him to get back to just focusing on scoring then he should give them a nice boost. He's also an RFA at the end of the year so I'm sure Boston wasn't going to bring him back.

Definitely a loss for BOS, but it's way better than losing him on waivers. Thanks for your time, Frankie; best of luck in FLA.

IDK that I'd call it a loss lol. Boston's one of the top teams in the NHL without him, so now that he's not on the team he still has zero impact on the Bruins.

We might not have needed him, but in terms of raw value, FLA still wins. It's not like Vatrano is a scrub like, say, Tomas Jurco last year.

Vatrano strikes me as the perfect winger for a pass-first, grinding center. He has a great shot, but not a whole lot more than that, he can drive possession to a decent extent, so putting him on the third line with McCann presents an interesting opportunity to develop into a consistent 15-20 goal scorer.

For Boston, it's a loss, but it basically creates a complete trade where we moved up in the third round and got Nick Holden for Rob O'Gara and Frank Vatrano. That strikes me as a "whatever" trade.

Vatrano still has to prove he's an everyday NHLer. Remember he lost out to guys like DeBrusk, Heinen, Schaller, Kuraly, Cehlarik (briefly) this past year. Don't get me wrong, Vatrano has the talent, but he's never been able to put it all together at the NHL level. Very similar to the Holden deal. I like it for both teams, but then again both teams are at different stages. Boston has no need for Vatrano so they netted IMO a pick higher than what he was actually worth. The kid was a UDFA, so netting a 3rd seems like good value consider it cost Boston nothing acquire him to begin with.

He has a lot of potential ... sure, he still has to prove it, but he really could.

I've always been a Bruins fan. I go to university just outside of Boston, and I've lived in New England my entire life.

I only started following Minny after I took them over in v1. So I've recently become a Minny fan despite being a lifelong Bruins fan.

A lot of players have a lot of potential, but potential doesn't = results.

I really hope Frankie becomes what many of us hoped, but this was a great deal for both teams based on current status and needs.

In my opinion I think that the Bruins won this trade. Vatrano just fell to far down in bostons depth chart

I know, but i still think he's gonna be a top 9 forward. 3rd round pick isn't enough.

I like it a little bit more from a Florida perspective. It's a change of scenery for a young forward who has played quite a bit at the nhl level enough he didn't factor in much this year. Most 3rd round picks don't ever make it to the nhl. Having said that, it was wise of boston to get something for a player before the deadline where they could use that pick rather than risk losing him for nothing in Fa or on waivers should they make a big move at the deadline.

I'd point to the Brett Connolly trade between BOS/TBL a few years back. They netted a pair of 2nd's for a guy whose was playing more regularly and was a more well-rounded player than Vatrano. All things considered I think a 3rd is more than fair for Vatrano and had Sweeney gotten a 2nd I would have been ecstatic

Panthers got swindled. Vatrano maybe worth a 5th, looks good but doesn’t get results, aka points.

Vatrano is still young, but he also needs a new contract and is arbitration-eligible. With Ryan Spooner needing a new deal, maybe Boston didn't think they could afford him? And like some have said, he's been pretty soundly passed on the depth chart. To replace & improve upon the third-rounder they gave up for Holden, this isn't a big price to pay IMO. Hope Vatrano proves me wrong though.

IMO, its a fair deal. Vatrano is still unproven scorer and I think he is easily worth the 3rd rounder.
