The Leafs took a 4th round pick ALONG with Fehr to unload the deal and less than a year later they trade him for a pick. Crazy good job by the Leafs.

Plus it's a non-conditional pick. People often overlook that detail. The Leafs have done a great job of getting picks with no conditions attached to them and thus at least having a dart to throw at the draft board. Managed to do that even with Enroth ffs.

Eric Fehr. Hometown boy from Winkler, Manitoba! Stanley cup winner 2016. Now he is off to San Jose. I hope he is able to prove that he still has a place in this league so he can comeback next year. Toronto never gave Fehr a fair chance.

OK I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about. We have Martin and Leivo as scratches. In the A, we have Rychel, Aaltonen and Johnsson who could all easily fit in for injury help. Then we also have Smith and Greening if you really get desperate for depth.

You don’t get what I’m saying. With Fehr and Soshnikov gone we have less options. Smith and Greening are trash, and those prospects you mentioned are not NHL ready (with the possible exception of Aaltonen). Lets say we lose three forwards, Leivo and Martin come in, but then we are stuck with an AHLer in the lineup. Next year, JVR, Bozak, and Komarov all leave, lets say Marner and Kadri get hurt, then what? Yes Aaltonen should be in the lineup next year, but he won’t be taking top six minutes. As I said, this trade makes sense, it just limits.

Also, do you really want Johnsson, Rychel, or Aaltonen in the lineup come playoff time?

Johnsson is basically NHL-ready. Rychel is a bit questionable. Aaltonen might just be the 4C next year. Smith and Greening are alright as injury callups.

True, but my point is do you want any of those guys playing in the playoffs? All I said was I hope nobody gets injured, not because it would cripple us, but because we are now more limited.

Last year, Fehr broke his finger in one of first shifts so he didn't have the opportunity to show anything. Right or wrong the Leafs picks Moore over Fehr in October. Fehr's wife is an actress so the Leafs loaned him to San Diego to help his family. Hope at least he's sees the the NHL ice at least one more time in probably his last pro season.

Once a guy gets to be Fehr's age and know he virtually no chance of being an NHLer again (2018/19) he has that decision. Do I retire and move on with my life, or do I play in the AHL for 100,000? Now some guys just don't want to retire, cause they know they are going to have to soon anyway, and they love the the life style of being a pro hockey player even in the AHL. Every guy is different.
Last year Greening of the Leafs was "buried" by the Leafs with the Marlies despite making 2.7m. Apparently he was much beloved by management and his fellow players. He resigned with them this year on a minor league deal maybe making 100,000. Again he loves being a pro hockey player, I always think, he looking at this as a step into getting into coaching later.
