Peeke is a terrible addition to the leafs and you have him as your 7/8 d-man. 2.75M to sit in the press box is a waste of cap management.

Its a reclamation project, pretty low risk and between Benoit, harris, Peeke, (all in the 24-25 age), you're able to find 2 good 3rd pairing guys and a 7th. Maybe its too much and maybe he doesn;t work out, but really its about age, goods mix of physicality/puck movement/def-off pairs and not going the UFA old guy route. And certainly having a remote possibility that he finds his game, he could be a mccabe replacement in 25-26. But really thats a pretty good mix on the entire defense that looks set for 2 yrs until mccabe expires

Maybe too much (2.75mil), for a risk but I like the upside of that age bracket and those 3 guys to make a solid 5-7th rotation. But ultimately a Seeler type for 1.5mil could work.

2.75 isn't a risk free reclamation project. Also I really can't wait for the Loughton nonsense to end. 20 point bottom 6ers aren't worth a 1st plus.

He's definitely a reclamation project, the physical ability might be there but he's never had a real coach at the NHL level. I doubt he costs you even the 5th alone, though. I could see a three-team trade with, like, Vancouver or another team looking for defensemen for depth with Brodie/Peeke/pick.

To TOR: Peeke, 3RD TEAM 2024 7th (for retaining)
To CBJ: 3RD TEAM 2024/25 4th (mostly for retaining)
To 3rd team: Brodie ($1M retained by Toronto, $2M retained by CBJ).

Brodie at $2M is valuable to a contender, and Toronto gets a different look on D for, in total, $1.25M less on the cap. CBJ move a guy that isn't part of the plan and essentially just gets compensation for facilitating and retaining.

Well thought out....

I had a breakthrough idea earlier: TB who has lost Sergachev and now sits on a lot of cap BUT need a top 4 dman and lack picks, Brodie even at full 5mil might be an incredibly cheap pickup, as TOR might just get a 3rd and 4th for him (depending on what they think their playoff hopes look like - buyers/sellers).
