With the addition of Severson and Provorov CBJ is going to have to move a defencemen. It’s probably Boqvist or Bean. Flipping Boqvist gets you a top 6 ppg winger who’s only 26 (is team controlled for a few years on a good contract so you don’t risk losing him in FA). Strengthens the offence after they made moves to bolster the backend.
Moving up 3 spots and taking 1 year of 6 mil is a smart move. Pitt has the cap and Myers is a good defencemen just isn’t a top pairing guy. Play him lower down the lineup against better matchups and special teams. It’s a great trade for them. If he had more years I’d agree but it’s only one year and fills a need for Pitt with dumolin probably gone. Maybe add some retention but I don’t think it’s too far off.
I agree with the garland move. Maybe a bit to high of a pick but I think he’s a perfect target for them to play alongside Bedard. Still only 27, not a terrible contract (length or $ wise). Can play top 6 role/PP. they can also trade him with retention once his stock raises a bit.
Bear trade came with an extension and he’s a promising young d. Report just came out saying Arizona is targeting cap strapped teams to pick up young NHL talent. Figured he falls perfectly into that category.
Boeser makes 6.5 large and CBus is an internal budget team. Provorov is there because the Kings are retaining on him to dump Petersen. Severson because he took a decent extension. Boeser is overpaid by 500K-1 million for the 65 games he will be healthy for and the 55 points he'll put up.
The value of that pick swap is a very late 2nd (like pick #60). No one is taking a 6 million cap dump for a late 2nd especially not Pitts which is in win now mode with Crosby/Malkin/Petry/Letang all the wrong side of 35 and a new GM. If you pay Myers bonus and are only dumping 1 million in salary and 6 in cap, you might get the Hawks, Arizona, Detroit to bite for a 3rd/4th. But at the draft before that bonus is paid and there are 6 million real dollars on top of the cap....late 2nd won;t do it.
Hawks will play Bedard with Reichel and Trad or pick someone up with a little size and grit to pair with them. Garland is the wrong shape and size given Bedard, Reichel, and their first last year Nazar are all similar (smallish).
Bear is a bottom pairing guy out for half the year....not getting a 2nd for him.
