There’s a difference between trading for a guy that’s intended to play a 2C role for $5M and a guy that’s a 4th liner with term making almost double what 4th liners should make. Avs are capped out and just have to be smart about it all.
Hayes makes me a lil nervous, but I also can’t see Fletcher retaining for so long.
Hayes is as much a 2nd line player as Dvorak is a 3rd line player.
Both have their hitches , both play inconsistent play and both have Hat Tricks this season.
A 30-40 point player for a 40-50 point player. Hayes is a better hitter , Dvorak the better shot blocker.
Dvorak is the better bulk faceoffs guy but Hayes is more dominant in the offesnsive and neutral zone by a decent amount.
They both average about the same amount of ice time
The edge age wise goes to Dvorak who's just 26 while Hayes is 30
The gap between them is not nearly as wide as you've suggested
People have always crapped on Dvorak saying he was better before or this or that.
He's always been a 30 point guy who can win you 53-55% faceoffs at a top 30 rate in the NHL
Like Lars Eller he isnt going to grow out of that role , just get better at it over time .
Is he overpaid ? Sure
Can you say Hayes isnt ? Nope not even in his career best pace so far this season
