No appreciation of Minnesota cap problems! Minnesota Wild decline long term contract

Minnesota's gonna need a replacement for Freddie Gaudreau - Nelson is a solid 25-30 goal scoring, two-way 2C that you'd be getting for 2x$4M in this trade. I get that cap space is tight but I would think this kind of value is the exact type of deal the Wild should be looking for, unless they're just gonna punt on doing anything the next 2 seasons?

with gaudreau leaving i figured nelson was an upgrade on him at about the price you'd be paying gaudreau as a UFA at 4mil, unless the plan is just to rock with bargain bin centers until the buyouts clear up

edit to add: i took a quick look at what this'd look like next year for the wild if they did it, and it works but they would have to move greenway to fit him in.

I’m not sure I want to give up a 1st, but getting 2 years of Nelson at $4m per would certainly make me figure out a way to make it work! Greenway and Foligno…see ya! And/or not resigning Gaudreau and Steel.

Yeah this offer is brutal for NYI tho….
