Description
This is the 4th attempt at making a Seattle team by the deadline. As always, I like to get constructive feedback in the comments so if you think there's something the team might still need or if a trade seems unbalanced, go ahead and tell me, I make sure to use the comments to adjust trades and would like to see what comes from it.
Transactions
1.
SEA
  1. Gibson, John
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2023 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Same as always, this trade doesn't seem to get a lot of hate whether it be because of luck or because it's just a fair trade. Seattle gets an actual starter without losing out on any assets currently important to the teams success.
ANA
  1. Evans, Ryker
  2. Grubauer, Philipp
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (SEA)
  4. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (COL)
  5. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Anaheim, as much as they seem to avoid trading Gibson, will likely have a tough time declining an offer where they get a 1st this year, future 3rd and 4th, a good defenseman prospect, and a goalie to replace Gibson as an NHL goalie.
2.
SEA
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan (2 100 000 $ retained)
STL
  1. Firkus, Jagger [Liste de réserve]
  2. Wennberg, Alexander
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (WPG)
  4. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (SEA)
  5. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (SEA)
Détails additionnels:
Though I like these posts getting comments about what is and isn't a fair move, the comments on the last post made sure to get the idea across that the previous trade was a pretty obvious no, and though I even specified that I knew it wasn't close, I can see why people would shoot the previous attempt down. This time I tried to throw more valuable assets into the trade, including a better prospect, more picks, no Donskoi, and still I would understand if people would prefer that the blues receive more. I won't throw in a first here but I will acknowledge that the trade might need one to really balance it out.

John Gibson this year: .896 SV%, 3.99 GAA
Philipp Grubauer this year: .882 SV%, 3.44 GAA

They're both basically on the same contract currently (4x$6.4M for Gibson, 4x$5.9M for Grubauer). Do you really think the difference between those guys is worth a 1st in this year's draft and one of the better D prospects in their system? Seattle should pass on this deal and just live with the Jones/Grubauer tandem for the time being.

-Same kind of vibe here- I think ROR would make Seattle better, sure, but I think that Seattle giving up Firkus++ is too much to give up from their pipeline. I know Vegas has kind of warped our expectations for what new organizations do, but I think there's something to be said for building up a solid foundation for more long term success instead of blasting out prospects for rentals. To use an example from Vegas pushing their chips in too far too fast - do you think they'd still trade for Max Pacioretty if they knew what Nick Suzuki was going to turn into?

Just gonna skippppp right past the Gibby stuff, because that discussion just isn't worth it tears of joy

Regarding the 2nd part though, the Patches trade specifically...I'd counter with "Do you think they'd still trade for Mark Stone if they knew what Erik Brannstrom was going to become?" (Yes. Obviously yes.), or, alternatively, what cherry on top would have come from substituting Cody Glass for Suzuki, who, at the time, was considered the much better prospect (Concussions suck). Not saying that Seattle should be a team that goes all in right now, but Vegas knew they were a strong team, and ending up winning their division in 2 out of the first 3 years Patches was there (Semi finals twice, conference finals once over 3 years as well).

I like that Vegas has continued to add. The goal of a good team should be winning. I don't think Seattle is quite there, and yeah, there's a big difference between multiple years of control vs. buying a rental. Again, not saying that I'd do this if I was Seattle, but if the right player with term came along, I'd have no issue moving a package like this.

If we do trade Gibby away, I do not think we want another contract basically the same coming back because Dostal would be taking over in that scenario
