I see Ottawa is going for the Edmonton model. Spend all your money on the top 6 and 2 defensemen and hope rookies and cheap players can fill out the rest.

Granted I like Ottawa young dmen depth more than I do edmontons but I’m unsure the goalie Forsberg can match his career year. Either way should be interesting to follow this young team and see how everyone develops.

Formenton is likely gone which would give room for another scratch and league min player on the roster. Couple that with hopefully getting Debrincat for slightly cheaper but he’s scored 40G multiple times and paced it in a shortened season so that just may be wishful thinking.

You can’t be in cap hell with lots of young, good players signed long term. If they absolutely light it up and you’ve got too many talented, young players WOW look they’re tradeable for the #1 D-man you need, or the really good goalie.

Edmonton and Montreal are in cap hell because of the ~5 million dollar players they have that aren’t worth it. Ottawa has…Zaitsev? And that’s it. And it’s for like 2 years. That’s totally dumpable.
