Description
Mitch Marner is a great player but Leafs have some cap issues AND need some prospects. Based on reports more teams will have internal caps.... which makes Marner more valuable. enter Ottawa.

Marner will have been paid $30.3M before the start of next season. That means he is Owed, just over $35M/5 years. So ~7mil/year at an 11Mil cap hit. But if you take back Anisimov and Gaborik, gives OTT an increase of 4.5-9Mil in CASH depending on how/if Gaborik has insurance. And based on Mylneks history, he nickle and dimes a lot.

Freddie - if you kept Freddie, I assume the leafs would just give up the penguins pick in the Hamilton trade and then a Freddie extension next year would be around the same. But with his name out there so much, there is a lot of smoke for there not be some truth.

OTT gets better, makes noise, generates some revenue for the owner, so great. Leafs get cap space and a box of magic beans which MAY one day be as good as Mitch.

I keep Hearing the flames are interested in Andersen, seems like there is a lot of smoke there. Whether it is the flames or someone else, I assume Dubas will want a high first, B prospect and then take goalie back.

TSN and others are saying that Hamilton. Not sure why, but ugh sure.. is that anywhere close to fair value. I actually have no idea. My guess is its probably the Leafs may need to add. but

Any trade for Hamilton would have to include Nylander AND 15th OA. He's the best D man in hockey right now

makes no sense for Carolina. They want to win now so why would they give up their best defender for spare parts and a mid first round pick

Certainly a bad trade for Calgary for one year of Andersen. More LTIR nonsense. Ottawa keeps the pick and has 6.5m in additional cap this and year and almost 11m for the following four years, instead of trading for Marner.

Ottawa is not trading the #3 pick for anything less than Matthews 1 for 1. Byfield will be a dominant 1C for the next decade and a half at minimum. We are also not giving up a good RD prospect and solving your cap hell. Also Anisimov is kind of important for the assimilation of Zub into Ottawa.

Calgary doesn’t need Andersen that bad but at least there’s no Bennett this time.

Hamilton is a Norris contender, it’ll take more than a 3rd liner and depth pieces to get him wtf
