Transactions
1.
BUF
  1. Brodin, Jonas
  2. Staal, Eric
Détails additionnels:
MIN gets a future top 6 center, future top 4 defenseman that were both recent 1st round picks, and McCabe who can fill the shutdown defenseman role Brodin did. Sabres get a long term answer at second pair LD and a stopgap 2C for Cozens.
MIN
  1. Johnson, Ryan [Liste de réserve]
  2. McCabe, Jake
  3. Mittelstadt, Casey [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
I can't see how this deal isn't fair. Brodin and Staal only have one year left on their deals so their values cannot be super high. This would mean MIN is probably embracing a rebuild this year, but in that division, are they really making the playoffs anyway? As a Sabres fan, it is tough to see two potentially future core pieces go, but the franchise is at a point where they have to win now. I still believe in Mitts, he has improved every year and was thrown to the wolves his rookie year, which tanked his stock. Bonus: Mitts is from MIN, Johnson plays at the University of MIN, and McCabe isn't from too far away in Wisconsin. Sabres draft Rossi or Lundell and to replace Mitts in the prospect pool
2.
VGK
  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus
Détails additionnels:
I like this trade for both sides a lot. If you can't get a guy like Tuch or Garland for Risto, trade him for a 2nd and a top RD prospect

I dont think MIN does that. They could get more value selling Staal and Brodin separately instead of in the same trade package imo

Brodin having a year left is irrelevant, unless he's told Wild management he's not happy and leaving. Not sure why people keep bringing that up for a core player the Wild don't seem to be actively shopping.

And yes, the Wild could make the playoffs. League average goaltending would have had them comfortably in a playoff spot this season. They're probably not going anywhere once they're in, but they could make it.

A few years back I would have died on the hill that Dubnyk was a fantastic goaltender. He probably was for a year or so, but looking back I think his gaudy performance was because of our great blue liners limiting the amount of high danger chances he faced.

With this trade, Mitts becomes the best Center in the organization. He has a higher ceiling than EK- who is solid, Boldy I don't think will be a C in the nhl- he seems like more of a winger, Khovanov deserves a mention but I would take Mitts over him, and whoever they draft at 11 in this coming draft will probably not have as high of a ceiling. Lundell will not be there. I think if you put proper pieces around Mitts he can be very good. With the Sabres his wingers were Sobodka, Pominville, Vesey, Sheary, etc. That sucks
