Description
Remember when we all had a good chuckle when Islander fans lost their minds when JT left? That is what you guys sound like. Until he signs or is traded, if we all just ignored it, the whole circus would just go away. All this attention grabbing, gamesmanship is getting old. When Marner signs, and I'd say that outcome is still 99% the likeliest scenario, how silly will everyone feel after going overboard with rage over a media overblown contract negotiation.

Here are some facts, still the other RFA's are yet to sign, the first one that does will impact all negotiations.

The reports that are out there currently have been completely misrepresented by the media. The Leafs have been pushing for a longer term deal in the 11 million dollar "UNIVERSE" that doesn't mean he was offered 11+ million dollars on a 7 year deal, we don't actually know what that means at all. My guess its at least 10.75 million on a 7 or 8 year term the 8 year scenario being more. Marner's camp is pushing for a 3 year deal with a very high 3rd year to obtain a higher QO when he's up again.

The ONLY thing that really means is, both sides are continuing to negotiate and are waiting for someone to blink.

Now who has leverage? Marner? Or the Leafs?

Well lets look at some other facts, once the season starts, Marner isn't getting a better off unless he gets offer sheated. Who can afford to give him an offer sheet? Columbus and Ottawa for sure, and after that only a handful of teams could afford to offer him the high priced contract he's asking for. Some will say he could be exposed to a smaller OS that the Leafs couldn't afford but does anyone think that Marner wants to go to Columbus or Ottawa? Not one contender can afford to give him a OS.

So really the Leafs very well are in a position right now where they can say this is our best offer take one of these deals now because once we pass October 2, these deals will be reduced by x amount each day due to the amount of cap space decreasing due to the prorated nature of signing in season.

So calm down, don't overreact and please above all else, don't act like a child and have a temper tantrum because a sports team hasn't signed a player yet. Life will go on and the Leafs are still going to be a good team.

Spot on cheers

On the flip side Bruins are still without McAvoy and Carlo and the "freak out" isn't even close to the same level. Nor has it gotten the same amount of attention that Marner/TOR have.

Rantanen is still in Finland, Boeser hasn't signed, Point is without a deal, Tkachuk is sitting etc. But Marner is a cancer and needs to be traded. Its all just too much.

I get a chuckle from both sides of this stuff. On one side you have Leaf fans losing their minds and acting like children hanging on ever report and blowing it way out of proportion and on the other you have the same number of non Leaf fans losing their stuff wanting this to get more drama filled and both sides aren't actually reading the words right. No one has actually said an official offer was tabled, what the reports have said is that the Leafs are pushing for longer term in the 11 million dollar universe, so AROUND 11 million, that is likely less on a 7 year deal and a tad more or just 11 million on an 8 year deal. What do people understand from those words? Marner turned down a 7 year 11 million dollar contract offer. That, quite literally, has never been confirmed or even really even stated by the one who first reported it (Bob McKenzie).

The other part of this I find possibly even more annoying but also hilarious is the mentality of non leaf fans on this site.

Almost all of them say Marner deserves 11.5 million on a 5 year deal and if you want 8 years its going to be 12.5. I'd wager none of them actually believe that and zero would be okay with their team paying him that much money but if it hurts the Leafs its fair and just. Then when people talk trade, those same non leaf fans will say Marner has no trade value because of how much money he wants. I find that logic amazing.
