<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kohnsharkosz</b></div><div>Hockey players want to win. That is not going to happen in SJ until at least the 26-27 season, at which point Dvorak will not be part of the Sharks plans. And if he is all about sun and beaches, the NTC becomes a limiting factor when the Sharks want to flip him. And regardless, the pick options and deferring down the road does not hold much value. A #42 vs a 60-64 is about twice the trade value. VS a #82-90, where that Van pick is likely to land, its 4 -5x the value. This becomes extremely important to a team that may very well be looking to use that draft value to package with 14 and 33 to trade into a spot to draft a Buium or Paracek. Dovarak and Kovacevic just don't provide that kind of value.

Jedi mind tricks.

Kovacevic is NOT young. He will be 27 at the start of the 24-25 season. That is a player that is somewhere in the vicinity of their ceiling. There are other options for much less draft capital.
Then there is Dvorak. Same story but older. Look through the pending UFA's. Guys like him are all over that list and cost no assets. And the salary retention means nothing to the Sharks who will be closer to the floor than the cap.

We will take Dvorak and Kovacevic, but for Montreal prodigal son Marc-Eduard Vlasic.</div></div>

Dvorak - If the deal is that they take him to flip him, he'll go. Monahan signed with the Habs with the intention of redeeming himself and being traded to a contending team. WIN were in the race and were, in fact, a good team during the season. Hence the move, and Monahan got a chance to go into a series team. Same could be said for Monahan. If you actually read what is in my comments, the retention isn't for the Shark's benefits, its for the second flip at TDL for a contending team which Dvorak would most likely go for to up his value. Dvorak 50% retention by Habs, then another by SHarks brings him into the 1.2 to 1.5M$ hit.. He's suddenly very attractive for other teams given he's now healed from his injuries.

Kovacevic - Defensemen get better with age, and most become the player they are when they hit 28-30 up until 34-35. I'm not saying he's goin to be top 4. But on the third pair, you get a solid defenseman who'll save you minutes for your two pairs. And a solid Dman gets you a 3rd pick or 2nd.

You're talking about the deal as if I was proposing Dvorak + Kovacevic vs a 2nd and don't even check out the 3rd pick that's included in the deal. Yes that is the deal, Dvorak + Kovacevic + 3rd round vs a 2nd round.

And given that it ain't a huge gap from those picks, it's just a bump up for Mtl who have enough RHD and SJS that would need some in their lineup since they have 3 real RHD in their lineup including AHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>Why is San Jose paying a 2nd for Dvorak?</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vols94</b></div><div>He's A montreal cap dump so that makes him so much more valuable</div></div>

And there they are.. Two comments with absolutely no understanding of the game and player worth.

At 4M$+ Dvorak is an expensive player, but under 3M$ he becomes a better asset for the team since he is able to win faceoffs when it counts and that is something teams want on their rosters. So for San Jose to get a player like that up until TDL where they can trade him and get another return on him is a good asset to have especially at that time where they can probably get back that 2nd round pick considering they would hold another % of his salary for the remainder of the year to a team who'll need a player like that in their series. Until then he helps their younger guys develop in their skills on faceoffs.

Then you have a young defenseman in Kovacevic who is a responsible defensive player, which by all means SJS would need at some point, but yeah you guys have no clue what that means unless a player has sparkling numbers and looks good scoring. He can move the puck and play the blue line even with a team like the Habs who were not good this year but have more RHD than needed.

And SJS gets a 3rd round pick so don't lose that much overall.. So there is no overpayment for a deal like Dvorak, Kovacevic and a 3rd round for a 2nd round..

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>Anderson contract is arguably worse then Dubois so doubt LA says yes. If Dubois+ is moved it’s for a starter goalie not a **** 4th liner who doesn’t have the speed he once relied on and a prospect who has a 50/50 chance of turning out</div></div>

Well.... Anderson is done within 3 seasons at 5M$/year, PLD still as 7 to go at 8.5M$/year... While PLD as a better point production, we're talking about 40pts last season and 1 goal in the playoffs. I don't see LAK retaining any salary on a deal like this, but the statement that Anderson's contract is worse, I'd pass on that since he's 3.5M$ less and done in 3.. Still has potential, but will mostly likely be a third/fourth liner for the next three if he doesn't get his sh*t together.

Same could be said for PLD.. Mtl would be taking one h*ll of a gamble for a trade like this to happen. I'd finish off Anderson's contract before I'd take on PLD's and provide picks for him. It's clear that LAK are not happy with him and his play, especially after giving him the big contract he wanted that with a NMC starting 2024-25 which means if they move him, it'll be during the summer else they'll have to negotiate with his future team and him before they can move him out. Habs take another risk there..

IF .. And I say IF.. LAK move him out, they'll probably have to pay because of the weight of the contract and performance issue he had. I'm thinking they'll keep him rather than pay to move him.

Personally, as a HABS fan, I am P.O'ed that the Leafs are back to the wall agaisnt the Bruins, because I would love to see a final cup team matchup of two Canadian team just to see Bettman's face when he learns that the cup will come back to Canada... After losing his 28 year gamble (20 of which were a money losing team) this would really make his head pop...

This team you built isn't going to help the Leafs. My personal view would be to trade either Nylander or Marner to get back a seasoned Defensman who's more on the defensive side. They need Defense and a solid goalie. While, their current goalies can't really look good with a defensive line up that can't hold their own against the opposing teams.

If Nylander or Marner are willing to waiver their NMC for a solid team, then make the move. Dubas destroyed their team by looking only at offense and not having a clue about defense. He's doing it again in Pittsburg and you can clearly see Crosby not being happy about it. But then you look at what the Leafs did in hiring Treliving.. The guy who couldn't figure the same things out in Calgary... Shanahan needs to go, I don't know about Keefe, I mean, all he's got to work with is offense, I don't know if his system would work if he got some real top 4 defensemen in his lineup.

Bu SHanahan .. ouch.. He hired Dubas, signed off on his bad deals, said ok to 12 NMC out of 23 players who are mostly all overpaid, and kept him clean for too long before he moved to PIttsburg, then he hires Treliving.. They need a new President and new GM with an actual vision of what it take to win a cup.

Tavares isn't willing to move his NMC, Matthew is actually the franchise player they need who is actually fighting for a chance out there which is impressive compared to two years ago when he wasn't putting 100% of his skills out there. This and last year.. He's showing he can block shots, and play.. But the rest isn't coming together.

Marner and Nylander are the only two that could go to make space for a top 2 level type defenseman. But you need to keep one of them. So go with the one that as the best on ice chemistry with Matthews.

If they can get a top2 blue liner, and get a top 4 with the money you save off of Brodie (he's 33, at some point you need to move to another player), then they'll have something to play in the pff season with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1986</b></div><div>Let's point out Demidov comment. He is playing in the MHL(30gp with 60 points). Michkov(22gp with 38pts) in the same league as a 17 year old(2 years ago). Yes, the Russian aspect there..</div></div>

Points in those leagues doesn't mean anything. Once they graduate to AHL or NHL it's either they can or can't. Joshua Roy put up 119 and 99 goals in the juniors, he's 6' and can play. Still, in the AHL was only able to put up 31pts in 40 games with a -15. With the Habs 9pts -2 in 23 games.

It always depends on the value of the league that year, how many good defensemen are out there playing against you, and are there any top goalie on the opposing teams. I don't value those points for now. He's not been impressive on his first try-out in the KHL and VHL. That may be a better indicator.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1986</b></div><div>Lindstrom will be in the top 5. That is the player I want Montreal to select(if available).

Montreal should also look for an RHD. By the time Savard(assuming he signs an extension next season, since he wants to stay), retires or wants to take a step back. Reinbacher should be ready for top line, but do you really think Mailloux will be ready for 2nd pairing?

Should be select Lindstrom, if selected back up plan, is to go for the best RHD.</div></div>

Yeah, Lindstrom goes up to the top 5 or drops to the top 10 depending on the lists, but yeah could be that one surprise player that pops-out of the draft and give the team that selects him the right to brag. So I wouldn't be surprised if they go for him if he's still there.
