Making room and keeping Smith
Isn't the fact that Reilly is playing lights out right now the very reason we DO trade him? Shouldn't we be selling when the stock is high?
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to move him any more than you do but unless we get another couple of injuries that we can Kucherov, it's inevitable that $7M has to come off the books and a UFA making $5M makes a lot of sense. It hurts me to think this way but the accountant in all of us has to override the fan in all of us right now.

Did the Carrier Injury last night help figure things out
It will be interesting to see if Marshy is playing on a different line tomorrow night....that might tell us a little bit about what Pete's thinking. It's obvious you want to put Kreb's in a position to succeed and not have to carry an entire line. And putting him on the wing is a much better way to get him some confidence. I too would like to see Patrick try the top line role. I think he's motivated as hell this year.

The Hague trade has me scratching my head. One for one would be a bad trade, but the fact that you want to upgrade picks to boot? Wasn't Kylington available for free last year?

I think you nailed it with "fans are well aware that a rebuild is needed but management won't do it" and therefore step #1 to fixing things is to let Ron Wilson go. It's not that he's a bad GM, but his expiry date with the Sharks has passed. If that move gets made first, then a lot of other moves will follow....moves that Ron Wilson won't currently make. As long as Wilson is still in charge no profound improvements can happen. The problem is at the top.
If this is repeating others from past posts I apologize....I don't follow this site nearly as much as others to know what others are saying.

With Everyone signed
I wish the NHL and PA would just finally agree to pick a salary cap number that includes everyone....short term injuries, LTIR, EVERYONE! This daily accruing cap $$ is garbage. Trading for guys who will never play again is garbage. And the Kucherov "episode" wouldn't matter. You know it's a problem when teams have to hire a specific employee who is used for nothing more than the salary cap juggling act. And for us fans, it's a total headache.
One number. All in. Simple math. Do it NHL.

If Ronnie chooses Price he's a fool. But now that there's word that they are likely signing Driedger to a $3.5x3 I think it's pretty clear Price is staying in Montreal. And Flower is likely getting an extension with VGK that won't be anywhere near $7M so he should be staying put.

What Vegas looks like with Chris Tierney on their team next year
I wonder if Vegas is going to get inundated with calls from GM's with the exact same thinking...."get something from VGK instead of nothing from Seattle". If that's the case, the returns may not be all that good since VGK will be able to be picky. The problem is that VGK doesn't need a massive overhaul so these same GM's won't have a very accommodating dance partner. AND, VGK would rather move money out than add money so that complicates things even further.
But I don't disagree with you that Tierney is an asset and he's worth getting something decent in return....from whoever that may be. Edmonton maybe?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cooliny</b></div><div>I see. I’ve just noticed glass has been a healthy scratch past few games and Miller can help the center depth. Good to know though thanks!</div></div>
Yeah Glass is not in the lineup....thanks to a deep roster. Hague too has sat this post season. But acquiring JT would not impact tonight either, or this series, or this entire playoff. So your trade starts next year. And next year, I would much rather have Glass and Hague than JT. Again, nothing against JT.

I don't mind JT, but we can't fit him. And getting rid of 2 top prospects is not good management. We need to get rid of $5+M, not acquire it. And, hopefully "win now" includes Glass and Hague.

Pens trade VGK Geno
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Lol. Sure.
A bunch of secondary pieces and MAF for a superstar. Still a top 10-15 Center in the NHL. VGK gets their true #1 center.
And a proven, very capable NHL back-up or 1B goalie. That is super cheap.</div></div>
So then based on your sales pitch you'd be crazy to make the trade. Keep your "superstar"...we'll keep our secondary pieces and we'll call it a day.

Pacioretty and Pietrangelo skating again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vegasloveforthebills</b></div><div>I thought about Holden but I think they are worried about losing him now for nothing
I thought Nosek could get traded because he’s a pending UFA, but probably not now
I think Vegas has Martinez at 2.5 or less and if he wants more than that they will just let him walk. I could see a situation though similar to Holden last year, where are they say to him on trade deadline week here is a contract, sign it or we may trade you because we need cap space. Kinda forcing his hand.</div></div>
Given the role that Holden has now been asked to fill, he's been excellent. He's not going to win you games, but he's not going to cost you games. Having that security is huge especially as injuries start to pile up.
I wondered about Nosek too, but depth right now is so important...he's staying. (but in the off season he's probably elsewhere as guys like Krebs and Dugan etc will all be knocking at the door)
I have to believe K-Mac has already chatted with Marty's agent. And if that's true, the fact that he's still not been extended tells me that either 1) the dollars are too far apart or 2) he wants to go home to Detroit and finish off his career there (and possibly make more money likely too). Losing Marty would be a huge blow in my opinion.

I think they may go with Hague and/or Glass and put Holden on taxi. Either way, a 20 man roster is just fine given that the taxi squad acts as a safety net. I was thinking not long ago that Nosek might get waived, but he's been lights-out lately so he's not going anywhere. Still hoping to hear news that we extend Marty soon. The longer it goes the longer I'm starting to think that he's planning on testing free agency. I just hope we can keep him for $2.5M or so.

Rebuild szn
Ekholm is certainly on VGK's radar, but that price is too steep. I think if McCrimmon can't extend Martinez here in the upcoming days/weeks then he may make somewhat of a push for Ekholm. But as much as I would like him on our blue line, I wouldn't like giving up Krebs and a 1st. A body (besides Holden) would have to go just for cap compliance reasons.
Do you happen to know if Fabbro requires protecting in the upcoming Seattle draft? (or is he exempt?)

A Smart Trade Deadline
Even though you retain on Eakin, and it only costs a 6th rounder, he's not a difference maker and will not fill a need for VGK. Paying him $1.3M for this year and next year is not money well spent. In FA there will be better guys available for $750K. In fact, even right now a guy like Brian Boyle (just an example) could likely be acquired for the league minimum.
Any moves that Kelly makes will be difference makers I believe.

When McNabb returns
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vegasloveforthebills</b></div><div>I agree they are probably working on a deal for Nosek. It’s one of those weird situations where they are buyers and sellers at the same time
I do think Martinez will be back next year. I see something like 2 million for 3 years. Maybe a year longer then it should be, but will keep the hit down.
They have 20 players signed for next year already, and have 4 million to spend. And that’s with both goalies again. So if they give Martinez 2, and a Krebs and Coghlan make the team they are under with 23 players on contract.</div></div>
I think $2M x 3 would be amazing. I just see Yzerman going after the hometown guy and offering more than that. Of course, as much as going home might be attractive to him, does he really want to end his career on a rebuilder? But I think it's really important that we try and keep him...he's been that steady force back there that has allowed Shea to open it up.
Now if Kolesar can keep building his game, that might generate questions about Reavo's future. I've always liked Reaves, it's just his $1.75M that I don't like. Man, is Keegan due though! Maybe his first NHL goal will come in Tahoe....let's hope.

I agree with you...I think it's Nosek. I wonder if Kelly is talking to teams about trading him as we speak or if they just put him on waivers. If he clears we save $1.05M and if he gets claimed we save $1.25M. Next year Krebs may take his spot. Thoughts on resigning Marty? Do you think he accepts less $$$ to stick around? We can't afford him at another $4M.

Skinner for Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>I think if he sees it as a Chance to revive his career and play with guys like hall and Eichel and the kids they have there with the potential in 2-3 years to be cup contenders he might. I feel he would consider it.... but you might be right.</div></div>
That's a good point. Although who knows if Hall is sticking around. But the other variable might be the fact that Buffalo is close to Ottawa and his wife is from there....and, well, happy wife-happy life.
