Lol. Sure.

A bunch of secondary pieces and MAF for a superstar. Still a top 10-15 Center in the NHL. VGK gets their true #1 center.

And a proven, very capable NHL back-up or 1B goalie. That is super cheap.

So then based on your sales pitch you'd be crazy to make the trade. Keep your "superstar"...we'll keep our secondary pieces and we'll call it a day.

It’s not a real deal buddy..lol.

Amd IMO the trade would help both teams. The Pens wouldn’t do the deal though. They are gonna extend Geno.

He's never leaving. It's not even a matter of what fans want. He's never leaving.
To be honest, him and Letang, coming back on smaller contracts helps this team to open up a window. They become the support players and the team kind of transforms. That may sound odd but it relieves a lot of pressure off of them and gives them a lot of help.

Ya, I agree. Obviously it’s not what the fans want. That wasn’t the question. It was if the trade did happen. Which, I agree, it won’t. Would you be mad at it??

And I agree. Geno and Letang get extensions.. They won’t sign ridiculous cheap though. They will/should give a hometown discount though. Sid did and Sid even said, it only works if Geno and Letang do too. Geno will be 7.5-8.5M. And Letang will be 6-6.5M.

I don't think Letang will make that on his next contract. My guess is 4-5.
I also think Geno maybe at 6-7.
It's a year away, Geno is coming off surgery, so we'll see what the number are on him. Two years of not great will cut that number down.
But I don't really get mad at it. It just signals to me the run is done if they leave. They don't have anyone to replace him and unless they can get a Barkov in FA they won't get one.
I think there has to be a realization that both these guys probably want term. Both are up there in age. Both probably need to realize if there is term, the $ figure is going to be lower.
I can see Letang signing a 4x4 deal. The same is true with Malkin at 4x6 or something. Malkin will be 36 at the time this is signed. I think he knows come 40 he's done. The last years are free money for doing what it took to try the first two years of that deal. So we'll see what happens. But both of those guys are too old to command what you think they will with any kind of term.

??? 2 years of not that great???? Sid was injured last season. Geno carried us most of the season. He had 74 points in 55 games. Sid had 47 in 41 games.

We’ll see about the contracts. I do agree they will extend both.

I think Letang will still make atleast 5M per. Like I said, I think it will be 6M-6.5M. He’s still a top pairing RHD and still a top 5 Point on the PP in the NHL.

Sid should have made 9-9.5M per. He took 8.7M.home town discount.

Letang and Geno arent gonna take 3-4M less than what they should be making. They will take that same hometown discount. Cause Sid called them out too. Said “for it to work, Geno and Letang have to take alittle less as well”. So IMO, each should take 1M-1.5M less.

Geno was hurt all year. And again, he is coming off knee surgery so we'll see......aka 2 not great years aren't helping him.
You're not really getting the point I'm making here. I'm sure at 36 and 35 Geno and Letang are worth what you are saying here. But at 40 Geno is probably looking more like Thornton and Letang as well if either of them is even still able to play.
I'm being realistic about this. 40 year old geno on the open market, is probably going to be a league min guy trying to attach somewhere to see if he can win a cup. That's not a knock on Geno, it's just reality. Name me a 40 year old player not on some absurd deal signed way earlier who isn't at that? Chara I think might have been the last. He was making 5 on 1 year deals till it got cut rapidly down the last 2 years.
Neither Geno or Letang is as durable as Chara was at 6'9. Thornton made 2 mil at 40 700k at 41...... If you are telling Geno, hey you get 6 at 40...it balances that cap out. The same is true with Letang. Because I can tell you now, neither will make that at 40 and 39. If they are even able to play. They most likely break even on the money, or come out ahead. Signing one and two year deals probably runs both of them out the league much sooner worth far less.
I think you will probably see something of this realization with Ov new contract. I see posts of 10 million x 4 years. I don't think the front office of WSH is looking at that and agreeing. That there will have to be a rationalization. That 39 year old Ov at 10 million probably doesn't fit the risk assessment model. And 7-8 is a more likely number.

No I understand. I just don’t agree. I think u are wrong.

Geno did not have 2 back to back bad years. Geno was hurt this year. Sid was hurt last year. Geno carried us last season. Again, he had 74 points in 55 games. Sid had 47 in 41 games. Sid carried us this season.

If u are saying next year will be another bad year for Geno, cause he’s coming off surgery, then that’s just speculation and I think they plan to extend them this offseason anyways. That’s what extend means.

I’m not arguing about this. I know what I read and it came from Crosby’s mouth. It’s not hard to understand.

You are talking about a season that will be 3 years ago. He played 33 games this year. About 3/5 and obviously played hurt in the playoffs.
He will miss time next year with the knee injury rehab. Odds of him playing great off a knee surgery really depends what is wrong. If it's a ligament, you are looking at a year to fully recover.
Given his age, healing is slower. It's harder for older guys to come back from injury. So as much as you say "speculation" I say we'll see. Which is exactly what I said.
Further more you are talking about something that Crosby said way back in 2013. You realize Malkin signed his deal the year after at 9.5 and Letang at 7.2.
It is what it is. It has nothing to do with their contract today.
You over hear with points that are arguing just to argue. Which is just nonsense.
If they want term, the price will be significantly lower. Because at 39 and 40, their value will be significantly lower. If they are even playing at all.
If they don't want term I'm sure they can ask for far more. But making 8 mil for 2 years and then being bumped down to the 2 range or some crap at 39 years old he would be lucky to make 20 mil.
But 6x4 puts him at 24 mil. It's not hard to do the math on this.

I haven't seen one way or another on that.
When it comes to older players the trend is to let it end and go from there. AKA like Ov is doing right now. That's just been the trend for some time in the league. So that's what I'm going with.

VGK may win the cup. They won't change much if they do.
