Next Season
Love the effort but literally every single signing makes no sense.
-Swayman gets 8 years
-Hanafin isn't worth 8
-Samsonov is a waste of a spot, money, everything. Our AHL backups are better
-JVR gets more elsewhere.
-Zacha is worth 3x that
-Ullmark won't go to the west coast, RNH won't go to the east coast and honestly he isn't a good fit. We need a true #1 and he's a 2/3 on a good team.

Ullmark to LA - Lindholm and Hanifin via Free Agency
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Seven years for 30 year old Lindholm???? He's not Bergeron. 9m?? You've been drinking the Flames fans kool aid.
LA isn't trading that for one year of Ullmark.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Unless LA goes through a new leadership group, I see them going with Rittich next year and bringing in a cheap backup unless this 13 game stretch is followed by a Copleyesque regression.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GarthSnowsShoulderPads</b></div><div>I'm happy that the Canucks traded for Lindholm, but at no point in the last two years with—either the Flames or recently with the Canucks—have I seen a $9mm AAV player.
Any team who pays him more than $6.0mm AAV will regret that contract.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I can't see Los Angeles spending their first this June on one year of Ullmark, despite his ability and obvious talent.
The Kings' record over the past two months is abysmal. They need to turn over as many players as possible to give the new coach a chance at success. The 2024 first is a good step in that direction.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>I have some concerns:
1. The following season - Marchand will need a new contract. I wouldn't blame him if he wants a raise. Frederic will need a BIG raise. Lohrei will be coming off his ELC. It doesn't look like the bruins will have enough space to cover all that.
2. Is Elias Lindholm worth $9M? That might be one of those UFA tickets that the team regrets immediately. In his 20s, he was mostly a 50-60 point guy that played a really good all around game, and had a couple outlier seasons playing with some freaks. Awesome player, but I'm just not seeing how $9M per is aging well in his 30s. I'm in the market for Elias Lindholm at 7x7, and that likely gets outbid. Maybe I could see 7x8 due to the need at the center position.
3. If you're going after Hanifin on a long-term deal, are you comfortable with lohrei pretty much capped as a third pairing guy? I guess that has worked in the past with Krug. It is something to think about though.
My golden rule is that if you're going to pay a guy at the top of the market, make sure he's a top of the market player, and if you look at boston's contracts, they appear to agree with this. Pastrnak got paid. McAvoy got paid. that's pretty much it under sweeney. Lindholm shouldn't be getting a hair less than Sebastian Aho just signed for. I would much rather do something like sign Hanifin, and see if you can pry O'Reilly out of Nashville.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>DeSmith certainly goes for more especially on a 1 year deal.
If you put yourself in a position where you NEED to ship out Ullmark to clear cap space for free agency acquisitions, you put yourself in a terrible spot leverage wise and I would expect the return to honestly be Boston getting fleeced.
Think back to Monahan having to be dumped for a 1st bc they wanted the space to bring in Kadri</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>princessTom</b></div><div>That Lindholm contract is going to be a heavy burden a few years down the road, would really hope BOS avoids overpaying him
No need for DeSmith with Bussi and DiPietro in Providence, one of them will be the backup, use that money to get an actual 4th line winger
Everything else is solid, hopefully Ullmark could fetch a 1st in the offszn</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback guys
I got to say some things tho since I didn’t elaborate
- I know Lindholm contract isn’t a nice one. I just went for the higher end that I think a team could give him. It could definitely be less.
- Ullmark trade : the 2025 1st round pick could be replace with a 2nd round pick & switch Jack Hughes for Arthur Kaliyev maybe ? Just spitballing.
- The backup position wasn’t that important. Any UFA vet on a 1 year deal or if management are good to go with Bussi/DiPietro, then be it

I’m all for dumping Grizz and Forbort and trading for Hanifin.
However I’m not giving up both Lohrei and 1st. It’s one or the other and negotiate the rest of the package.
Also moving out cap without retaining will be tough.
I’m not paying that for Hertl hurt or healthy. But I have never wanted him anyway. Don’t like the contract.

Mitts currently leads the Sabres in 5v5 TOI. He's also only behind these players in 5v5 points going on the past year+ (Since dec 9 2022):
1. MacK - 95
2. Pasta - 78
3. McD- 77
4. Kuch - 76
5. Point - 75
6. Rantanen - 71
7. Pettersson- 69
8. Matthews- 68
9. Mittelstadt - 67
The trade makes ZERO sense for the Sabres. ZERO.</div></div>
So you're evidence that UPL and Swayman are equivalent is Boston plays defense good and a 7 game sample size for UPL which includes 1 game vs Anaheim, 1 game vs a Bedard-less Chicago, and two games against San Jose. There's cherry picking data, and then there's <strong>THAT</strong>

Using a sample size since January 1st doesn't make sense. Swayman's entire career has outperformed UPL substantially. Yes Boston has good structure, but Swayman is a top 10 goalie world wide.
As for Mitts, that's great he is producing at 5 on 5. He plays a ton on the PP also and isn't generating there. If Mitts is any teams number one centre, they will be a perennial bottom 7 team. He is still a solid player but he is not a "Top Centre". He is a good #2 C.

TDL Elias Lindholm
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Yes but you are arguing purely off Bostons perspective and semantics. Neither have anything to do with my comment. 🤷🏻♂️
From Bs perspective I would not even consider it. Cost outweighs value.
Semantics - I don’t think any team should ever give up long term assets for rentals. Ever. Unless you extend them it’s pointless.
However my comment was purely based on what it would cost to get Elias. Poitras alone as stated above is not it. Late 1st/Poitras is the kind of package they would accept.
I hope if Bs do pursue they don’t do anything more than 1st/Merk but that’s another argument.</div></div>
To be blunt, I don’t trade for Lindholm because I don’t think it is possible to get to the right value / need / cap balance. If the rumors of him wanting seven years is right, I’m passing and waiting til FA or trying to acquire Hertl next offseason when space is available.
The answer to Poitras, Lysell, or Lohrei and a #1 should be an immediate no. Any combination of two other prospects and that #1 is something I’d consider for Hanifan. Lohrei could be available for Hanifin, but they’d have to find the right prospect/pick swap OR Boston just waits until July 1st and takes their chances.

Thank god Don Sweeney doesn’t live this way. I could see a scenario where Boston makes a conscious decision to use Ullmark to secure the assets to get Hanifin. It’s not likely, but there is atleast an argument for it.
I’m not a fan of Vanacek. I frankly think he sucks and allocating 3.4m over 2 years for him is a mistake. You can secure a better goaltender for much cheaper if he’s not involved. He is a negative contract. Daws or Schmid instead to battle Bussi doesn’t remove money from next year,
A 3 team trade that might make sense
To NJD; Ullmark and Grzelcyk
To Boston: Hanifin and a young goalie from NJD
To Calgary; 2024 first from NJD and 2026 2nd from Boston
Including Lysell seems like massive overkill especially considering how he is playing now.

Don loves to have extra d man. Been burned by injuries and depth come playoffs multiple times. Don’t see him moving any of them unless it is for cap purposes to bring the in help elsewhere..
Forbort s/b dumped for FC
Grizz should be traded but Donny sees way too much of himself in him and having to run into his dad at the arena after moving him would be awkward. Lol.
Walsh and Zboril are just depth pieces who have little value outside of that.
Ullmark will likely not happen in season.
Rest are not available. Though Boqvist or Geekie could be moved if it was for an upgrade over them. Sway and Freddy are off limits.

Heavier for a Run Rebuild Sign Hanafin in July
At this point in time, I seriously consider the NJD trade but probably not any of the other ones. I don't think Sweeney even considers that one, since it sacrifices their chances this year, despite being 1st in the division.
I am personally hoping for a DeBrusk extension. And with the way he is playing, his next contract is increasing in value from where it was a month ago. I hope they get it done before the trade deadline.

If Conroy had a brain
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Conroy would need mind manipulation to get these deals done.
Lohrei is a tough call. His offensive upside is pretty large for a former second round pick. Sweeney picked a player without the pedigree and experience at D … and he developed into a highly talented prospect at Ohio State. I do think he’s involved in a Hanifin deal if one materializes.
With his service time, upside, and offensive play at the NHL level (his defense is a WIP); I value him more than a late first rounder especially in this upcoming draft. He will be lumped in with Bahl, but I take Lohrei every day of the week. They are both former second rounders, but Bahl has more limitations even though I like him.
I fully understand that Calgary may not value him like Boston does and that’s OK. I’d probably offer Lohrei, Grz, a 2nd, and a prospect like Merkulov for Hanifin. For Lohrei, Grz, and a first (to make the deal cap compliant), I probably walk away and take my chances that he becomes a free agent</div></div>
Why give up four assets for a rental when you can just wait for him to hit UFA and sign him? I like Boston's odds of locking him long-term without a trade
