Ullmark for Mercer Guentzel Signing
I'd think the base for an Ullmark deal would be similar to what COL paid for Kuemper, which was a 1st + 3rd + Timmins (2nd rounder drafted a few years prior). With that said, Mercer is worth more than the package that Kuemper returned.

The Bruins have $21.7 million in cap space going into next off-season with the following already under contract:
Marchand - Coyle - Geekie
??? - Zacha - Pastrnak
??? - Frederic - ???
Lauko - Beecher - Brazeau
Lindholm - McAvoy
Lohrei - Carlo
Wotherspoon - Peeke
Ullmark
???
-Poitras will likely slot into the 3rd line C role next season and has a $870k cap hit
<strong>New Cap Space: $20.8 million</strong>
-Lysell put up a solid year in Providence and could slot into middle 6 role with a $863k cap hit
<strong>New Cap Space: $19.9 million</strong>
I'm still in the boat that Swayman is going to get around $7 million a year on an 8yr deal
<strong>New Cap Space: $12.9 million</strong>
So let see where we sit now:
Marchand - Coyle - Geekie
<strong>???</strong> - Zacha - Pastrnak
Frederic - Poitras - Lysell
Lauko - Beecher - Brazeau
Lindholm - McAvoy
Lohrei - Carlo
Wotherspoon - Peeke
Swayman
Ullmark
Lets factor $1 million per the healthy scratches of the roster. The Bruins are sitting just shy of $10 million in cap space and would be looking for a top 6 winger. $7 million could land a pretty solid winger for the top 6.
Marchand - Coyle - Geekie
<strong>($7M)</strong> - Zacha - Pastrnak
Frederic - Poitras - Lysell
Lauko - Beecher - Brazeau
Lindholm - McAvoy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>1. It’s hard to compare drafts from that sense. I agree that 2024 appears to be a weaker cohort, but from trade perspective, it still holds a similar place in draft. Boston would likely agree (if they agree) with the premise that certain guys are available (ie, if Eiserman or Lindstrom or whomever are available at #10).
2. That off-season (and following one) all NHL teams had compliance but-outs due to the lowering of the cap from the new CBA (was a lockout at beginning of 2012-13 season). Luongo’s AAV was a concern in that tighter cap period, but there were also teams that thought he could be bought out, placing him on the market for free. No one expected Vancouver to trade Schneider.
3. <strong>If they keep Swayman, Ullmark then they likely lose Bussi for nothing as he would have to pass through waivers next year (unless they trade him)</strong>.</div></div>
Based on what? He's got exactly ZERO games in the NHL under his belt. He was ok but not great in Providence this year (DiPietro had better numbers for Providence). What team is going to put a claim in on an unproven goalie knowing they have to keep him on the NHL roster all season?

Was it a good signing? we'll find out. Its a low risk signing. If he turns out to be an NHLer then awesome. If he doesn't then you move on at the end of the ELC. Seems like every year NCAA UDFA get hyped up and they almost never live up to that hype.

fix the third line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>I’m well aware. Also well aware no need for 8 D right now with everyone healthy.
Send Lohrei down. Recall Merk. Give him a handful of games getting regular shifts, find out if he can contribute. Better to find out now than have to find out in the playoffs due to injuries.
You have 2 of 13 FWDs not contributing at all and 8 D on the roster. Simple math.</div></div>
That's a fine approach, but its just not how Sweeney & company operate. They rather have 8 d-men on the roster unless they have a forward whose dinged up and they need an extra forward. The last time they brought up Merk they shoved him on the 4th line and played him for about 10 minutes a night. They'd probably do the same thing if they brought him up, which may not be best for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Agreed, Merk sitting in minors is a bit ridiculous right now. JVR has been invisible and Lauko has been visible in a bad way.
Get him up and see what he can do with regular shifts on the 3rd, whether it’s at center or wing and find out if he’s an option.
If not maybe give Boqvist a bump up to 3rd LW at least.</div></div>
Is it ridiculous or is it just a numbers game? Bruins are already at a 23 man roster, so someone needs to go down. Only Lohrei & Beecher don't require waivers. Sweeney loves to carry as many d-men as possible so he's not going down. Beecher has been playing well, so no reason to send him down. You're only option is to waive someone like Lauko and hope he clears.

Rough 15 game stretch with just 1 point for JVR, but his 15 games prior he had put up 12 points. This has been his worst stretch this year and its seem like a matter of time before it starts to put up points again.

Don't hate the trade honestly. Zboril has no future with Boston and the 3rd isn't until 2027. 3rd rounder has about a 27% chance of play at least 100 games. If he doesn't work out then you can just buy him out.

Which is why Boston shouldn't be trading Ullmark to acquire a rental.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruins40</b></div><div>I mean I’m sure they’d try to resign him if you follow this team you know they rarely don’t extend their deadline acquisitions. Last year they plainly didn’t have the cap space for Bert.</div></div>
Toffoli isn't going to be cheap to re-sign. Over the last 3 seasons among RW's he ranks:
G - 11th
A - 21st
P - 17th
You're likely looking at $6.5 to $7 million to be in the discussion to re-sign Toffoli

Then Toffoli likely walks in the off-season and all Boston has to show for Ullmark is a 2nd + 5th. The 2nd rounder will be lucky to be on an NHL roster by 2028 and the 5th will be lucky to ever play in an NHL game.
