I understand why you wouldn't want to do the trade. That's perfectly fine. But to be fair, Marner can fix goal scoring problems even if he isn't the one potting them. He is more than just a playmaker he puts goals on other people's sticks by force. Constantly amazed how he puts free goals on players sticks. Aho is clearing 50 goals playing with this guy no problem.
If there was a stat that was more than a primary assist this guy would lead in it lmao, but I do understand where you are coming from.

Ya I agree, or just bury him until the deadline where he's probably ending up on IR or as a toss in to another trade. By then he will only be owed 4m real dollars and less cap where it'll be a lot cheaper.
This is too much to pay for 1 year of a 3.5m cap hit when buried

We should be getting way better at D if we are giving up Nylander and yet we barely did and got way worse up front.
Lilly is under our control and is going to be one of our better value players on the back end.
I like something involving Nylander and Hanafin if we are adding a player like Hanifin to the back end without giving up Lilly. But here we just seem to not be able to decide why we are making this trade in the first place.

Yeah those two guys should be traded for more than picks and prospects. Other teams should have to add elite players back in the deals my apologies Winnipeg fans.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>Its not that they wouldn't trade them, just not for scraps as suggested here. I realize that neither will command a high return therefore, their value is greater to the team and the city than what they would get for them. There has not been a player since Trouba that has complimented Morrisey as well as Demelo has and Lowry will very likely be the next captain. He is a major culture carrier and someone who loves being in Winnipeg. He plays the way the community wants the game to be played. These fact cannot be ignored. Hope that helps.</div></div>
How did I suggest they are traded for scraps when I didn’t even specify a return? How are prospects and picks scraps. That’s absurd.
Having reasons why you don’t want to trade them is understandable, but saying I suggested scraps for them when I left the return up to your own imagination is odd and I don’t understand how you would come to that conclusion.
Didn’t put a price tag on either player but somehow it’s scraps. Thanks for the insight.

who wins between Rangers and Devils
Yeah the NJ trio is going to get a lot more out of those given their age, recent success and cap rising soon. They have the ability to build around those guys with solid depth and supporting cast.
To be fair, NY has squeezed a lot more out of those 3 considering they are a bit older. NJ still has to live up to it over the duration of their contracts but I don't think they'll have any problem doing that.

Perhaps I can interest you in a 36 year old right winger making 8.25 million? Hes still decent, probably put up 50+ points.</div></div>
I didn't realize how important those pieces are for you guys... an overpaid bottom 6 player and a pending UFA. Why are they so integral to Winnipeg where they wouldn't trade them? Especially considering the retool you guys are going to be looking at soon. I don't understand it from a hockey perspective.

You literally posted a trade for full Murray retention for our 1st and getting your 2nd back. Moving back in the draft from late 1st to 2nd round is worth a 3rd round pick and a late pick. Go look at draft day trades over the past couple years... This is basically the exact same value as that except we ate 1.5m...
I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.
Add whatever pick you want so you can arbitrarily win the trade on Armchair GM. I just needed his cap off the books so manifest it how you like.

Leafs try again with The Core
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devils101</b></div><div>If I’m not mistaken, that last sentence states that with Muzzin still in Toronto, at the start of the season, his 5.5m will count towards the cap… hence why teams trade players that are on LTIR (Weber, Datsyuk, Seabrook, Clarkson, etc.)</div></div>
Teams that have a lot of cap room trade for those contracts because they will count against the cap for low or no real dollars. No contract will provide LTIR relief unless you are at the cap ceiling, then, any contracts on LTIR kick in.
I don't see where it says that he will not be LTIR eligible in the offseason. The rule I quoted doesn't state that it will at all. Unless there is different language in the CBA you can find then he will not count against the cap. Muzzin is injured indefinitely and I don't think they will have trouble proving that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devils101</b></div><div>Yes his contract is on LTIR, but he cannot go on LTIR until after game 1, I believe. So his salary would still count until after game 1. So to clear the cap, you trade him so you can spend the money in the summer</div></div>
"LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.
At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed."

Q for NYR fans
Just looking at a few comparables who signed around his age, games played and points, I think we could see a 2-3 year deal around 3m-4m?
Not sure what the Rangers really have budgeted for him, but I would think an offer sheet would have come at a longer term for 5m-6m even then you're only looking at a 1st and a 3rd if you don't match. You would need to go even further for the Rangers to let him go for offer sheet compensation.
Just a guess. Interested to see what insight Rangers fans can add.

Adding RyJo - Trading Nylander - New 4th Line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ennis</b></div><div>Rip is known to do that. Will scold you for bad takes and trades but never posts anything himself. Cares too much about winning random ACGM arguments.
Now on to your trade:
Ryjo is still a very effective middle 6C. The problem that comes with him is how overpaid he is. He's a great morale guy and great with mentoring younger players. If there is retention (probably closer to 50%), 4m for him at 2 years would be fine to have as your 2C. He's has crappy linemates here on Nashville as well, and his QoT has been poor, kinda makes him look worse than he is.
Now with your payment, I think you did overpay. Ryjo, at half retention, would probably only net Nashville closer to a 2nd+. (If Granlund and Nino can get us a 2nd, so can Ryjo). Which I would be fine with. Nashville needs to clear spots for our younger players.</div></div>
I will accept that it is an overpayment, with honor. I do try to overcompensate for my own bias being a Leafs fan. As well as floating ideas to NSH fans to see what a trade would looks like. I agree Johansen is still effective and there's no doubt that there has to be money eaten by Nashville for him to provide value.
My thought process here would be the late 1st for Johansen, and something around a 2nd round pick for the retention. I like Minten and he had a good D+1 year, a year removed from being an early-ish 2nd round pick. As I understand it NSH has a history of not wanting to retain anything on contracts.
If the cost is lower, then I see that as a win-win. I think it's an interesting idea and a bit different than some of the usual stuff on here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchMafia</b></div><div>I don’t dig too far into the numbers when a guy making $8M per scores 12 goals and is well below 0.5 points per game at 5v5. I actually post rosters instead of clicking on threads offering nothing of value and crying about who needs to add a 3rd rd pick. I'm gonna defend my opinions clearly, but you haven't offered valuable discussion in any post you've been in, never mind being able to fully read a post before crying about it.
Clearly you're more interested in winning meaningless Armchair GM trades than being a fan of hockey.

PPG and +/-? These are the tools you use to evaluate players?
He's 1.6 p/60 5v5 that's on the low end of his career average, but still in line with many of his seasons over the last 8 years. Nashville deploys their lines differently. He will play more minutes here, even in a 2nd line role, where he will face easier competition and be surrounded by really good players... Not Granlund and Niederreiter
He's can use his size, can play LW or C, great at faceoffs, consistently a positive event player at 5v5. Can be deployed balanced in either zone. Good hands, good on PP. Decent underlying numbers.

Johansen would be great for us. Would be way better than Bunting 5.25x4 like your post...
The exact value doesn't matter for the Flames trade. Like I said. They should have interest in a deal with the main pieces. And Gio doesn't add any value to the deal it was just a farewell to Gio.
Not many options to bring in... ROR can fit cap wise in this roster even with Johansen with minor adjustments. But that is likely a 3-4 year term.

2023 BOS 1st + Fraser Minten? or Leafs move back in the draft and offer 2024 TOR 1st + 2023 2nd?
If you see my above comment regarding the real dollars over the next 2 years do you think that could sway NSH to take on some of the money?
