I completely understand when people say this, about any upcoming UFA, but let's be realistic for a moment.
With the cap being flat for anywhere from 2-4 years (as reported) exactly which teams are going to give any player 10M long term?
It's going to be a very lean time for this group of UFAs as they may have no choice but to take a little less and maybe go after longer term.

And just a side not for anyone who may read this.......I am NOT a fan of Gaudreau and want to see him moved. Sooner the better.
He's walking away in 2 years and the Flames risk getting NOTHING, so move him now and at least get something.

Call me crazy, but I'd be OK with signing both Barrie & Gustafsson....and trading Giordano.
Yes I said trade Gio. Arguably his best years are behind him, but he's still good enough to help another team where he's not counted on to be the "top" guy like he is here.
Granted you might not get as much for him as you would've a couple years ago, but you could get something more than garbage.
He's getting a step slower, an it's much more noticable.

What do you think THIS season was?
He took his current contract as a "prove it" deal and he proved it.
Look at some of his advanced stats, they're top 5 on the entire team in some areas.

I don't see him getting the 4.5 like this shows, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get somewhere in the $3m range.
Let's face it, Bennett got 2.55M coming off a far worse season than Mangiapane had.
As for term, Treliving seems to be a big fan of getting guys locked into 6yr deals, so ya just never know

I would have to say NO to that offer.
Main reason is Andersen only has 1yr remaining and then would need to be resigned at a cap hit above his already $5M, so he becomes quite costly in a flat cap world.
I think the only way this would be considered is the Leafs would have to take back some cap money.

Next, Ruzicka is spoke of quite highly and "might" even make the big club out of camp next year. He could easily fill the spot left by Rinaldo or Rieder not coming back.
That's where in my mind the Flames would say no to him being included.

I know it's a highly unpopular thought or opinion around here, but there are many benefits to consider moving Johnny now, rather than waiting another year.

Trading him now will surely get the Flames a better return since the team acquiring him gets for 2 years as that's what left on his current deal at an extremely low cost given similar players right now.

If the Flames keep him and look to move him after the coming season, the return goes down slightly as whatever team gets him only gets that final year of his contract and unless there's something in place for re-signing him they'd be giving up a big price for basically 1 year before he walks as a UFA.

It makes zero sense for Calgary to try and keep him. Too many guys will need big dollar contracts very soon, Tkachuk being one of them as his current deal ends the same time as Johnny. And honestly if you had to choose, which one of those two are you keeping?

So, as much as people rip on me for saying it, the time to #tradegaudreau is NOW

Thanks for your interest in joining the game, however you should know, no one steps right in and assumes a GM position.
Everyone needs to first be taken on as an AGM and then as spots open up, replacement GMs are selected on a seniority basis first and availability/willingness after that.

Sujet: No Trade Lists

Does anyone know if the players "No Trade Lists" are anywhere out there for all to see?
We seem to have access to just about every other aspect of contracts etc, except those lists.

Reason I'm curious is recently on a sportstalk show Jeff O'Neil said he knew of players who had Calgary on their NT list simply due to the Saddledome being such a dump.
I mean yeah, the building is terrible, so I wonder if players change their minds once we get our new building in 2024

Personally, I haven't watched the Monday, or now Friday show in about 5 months....and I don't miss it one bit.

I'm just happy that neither EDM or VAN had the common sense to draft Tkachuk at 4 or 5.

Thankfully Puljujarvi is pouting over in Finland while Juolevi is toiling away in the AHL.
All the while, the guy they both passed on has been making a major impact at the NHL level since day 1.

Gotta be able to not only ask yourself, but be honest with yourself....IF the Oilers had taken Tkachuk at #4 and he was having the same kind of impact on other teams as he is now, would you still look at him in the same negative manner?
All events playing out the same way except Tkachuk is an Oiler and he lays those same hits on Lucic (Flames) and then refuses to engage in a fight, how would you feel about him then?

Jealousy is such an ugly mistress.

Sujet: What is Brodie worth?

I would try to sign Brodie over Hamonic only because I feel he's more versatile.
Can play both sides, fits in on any of the 3 D pairings, better skater and puck mover.

Hamonic would be cheaper to sign and keep, so who knows which direction they go.
