What do you think THIS season was?
He took his current contract as a "prove it" deal and he proved it.
Look at some of his advanced stats, they're top 5 on the entire team in some areas.
I don't see him getting the 4.5 like this shows, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get somewhere in the $3m range.
Let's face it, Bennett got 2.55M coming off a far worse season than Mangiapane had.
As for term, Treliving seems to be a big fan of getting guys locked into 6yr deals, so ya just never know
I don't think this year proved Mangiapane at all. I think it's a great start and he's established himself as a bonafide NHL player and certainly earned a pay raise but one season with 32 points is how you end up with Lance Bouma's contract, 15 points one year, 34 the next and then 7 the next two. Mangiapane, 13 points one year, 32 the next, then what?
If you want to compare Sam Bennett and his first contract coming off an ELC as opposed to Mangiapane and a prove it deal this year, Bennett signed his deal coming off the 2016-17 season, 2 years 1.95 per. His points per game was 0.38 where Mangipanes over his last two seasons is 0.26, Bennett's two prior seasons he scored 36 and 26 points respectively in addition to 4 points in 11 games in the playoffs where 18 year old Sam Bennett was born. That earned him 1.95/year with the pedigree of being the 4th overall pick. Mangipane's stats aren't as good as Bennett's were coming off small contracts and Mangiapane has only done it once. One year at 32 points is not a prove it season, that's showing that he is worth a spot in the starting twelve day in and day out, if he came in and put up 5 points he would be going the way of Jankowski, but he proved that he deserves a roster spot, now next season prove that your worth a big contract. He has arb rights and I think they will be used, like last year his agent will ask for way too much.
