Problem is though guys (if your all Guys) is can can Toronto and Tampa afford and/or want to give up what it would take to get him plus pay him??

You'd be getting a guy that has scored 40 goals in this league and younger assets for a guy that has scored over 30 goals in this league. That's a huge win IMO.</div></div>
True. Hmmm looks like the price for Spurgeon may have gone up if the NYR's can sign Trouba.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Thanks! Yeah I just had Koivu at 2C for kicks. The ideal route would be to start Patrick at 3C but eventually bring him up to 2C for the last half of the season. Koivu may or may not start on IR... Sounds like he's hell-bent on returning, though.
Great question, and honestly an idea I've been toying with for a while. I can't say for sure. Probably Lee since I don't think we're contenders for the next couple years, even with Pavelski.</div></div>
Yea that's what it sounds like and watching Koivu through his career he is the kind of guy that will run through a wall to get back on the ice.
I could see that but are we contenders with Lee???

I Like this team as well as the one you did with the Vancouver trade. I think though Patrick would probably have to be our #2C because he is of his offensive upside plus I could see the Wild being very careful with Koivu as he comes back from the ACL. Also side note: would you rather have Pavelski at a lower cap number and less years or stick with Lee for what you signed him for?

Philly and Vancouver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I think he has proven a lot. Scored 33 goals once, sure, but he has consistently scored over 20 goals the past 3 years and has scored over 20 4 out of the past 5 years. Last year was a down year for him and we traded away our only playmaker, but Jason still scored 21. One big thing with that 21 goal number is that Jason's shooting percentage was really low last year compared to his career average. Over his career, Jason has scored on 12.1% of his shots on goal. Last year, he only scored on 9.8% of his shots on goal. He had 214 shots on goal last year, so if you use his career average shooting %, he would have scored 25.8 goals. That indicates a snake-bitten player that was simply unlucky. If he had scored 26 goals last year, his value would be a lot higher on this site. I don't want to make him out to be more than he is, which (in my opinion) is a 25g/50-55p top 6 forward. You put him with a playmaker, and he could get close to 30g/60p. I can show you some fancy stats/maps if you're exceptionally interested, but to sum them up: Zucker is really valuable on the ice when it comes to scoring, last season he increased the Wild's scoring by 7%. It doesn't sound like a lot, but that's pretty good for a top 6 winger.
The thing with Virtanen is that if you look at his production after leaving the WHL, it's pretty discouraging. He scored 19 points in 65 AHL games his first year (really bad, especially for a rookie taken 6th overall) and his NHL production was stagnant the past 2 years (increased from 10g/20p to 15g/25p the past 2 years). 5 goals increase is good, but you'd really hope that assist number goes up (10 assists is pretty horrible). Statistically speaking, an increase from 20 to 25 points is pretty insignificant, even if the increase in goals is significant. Looking at the same maps as above with Zucker, Virtanen <em>decreased</em> the scoring by Vancouver when he was on the ice by 9%. Not what you want when you're putting a guy drafted 6th overall on the ice, especially when he's trying to replace a winger like Zucker.
Again, I don't want to make Zucker sound like some "elite" player, because he's not, but if you want a solid scoring winger that has shown he can pot 30 goals when he's put with a playmaker, Zucker is your man. Age is certainly a factor here and Virtanen does have value, I just would be very hesitant about swapping Zucker for Virtanen 1 for 1. Zucker has shown much more at the NHL level than Virtanen and for that reason I think Vancouver would have to add something like a 2nd round pick, a prospect like Gaudette, or a roster player like Tanev.
Edit: <a href="/users/MNBassman" target="_blank">@MNBassman</a> you might find this useful to read as to why I think Zucker has more value than Virtanen.</div></div>
A lot great info here thank you. This is the bottom line though there are way to many left shot fowards on this team and I don't want to trade any of the kids yet/we don't have much else of value besides Zucker/Spurgeon that we can trade. I know Jason would be better with a playmaker but do we have one on this roster right now? Could we land one with a Spurgeon trade?

I actually like this team with these trades. Might not be a playoff team but what we have now has not worked plus there is some money left over and more trades can be made to help.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I know you really like him, I'm just not sold on his upside. And I know you like him because he brings grit/60 and it's always good to have a guy or two like that in your top 6, I just don't like him enough to swap him straight up for Zucker. He hasn't proven nearly as much as Zucker has.</div></div>
What has Zucker really proven though?? He is a Left Shot guy who has scored 30 goals once and we have a ton of Left shot guys on this team!! There is a reason Fenton has traded so many guys from this team they hit a point and stopped developing because of the player or coach or management who knows but they all seemed to hit a brick wall in there development why?? Also Virtanen is a lot younger , cheaper, a Right Shot and a Big Body. I don't know if Virtanen is a Star but he is something different for sure!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kallenpj</b></div><div>Seems fairly unlikely that Fenton would trade him. Fenton is more likely to think that with gambling coming into the game, the cap will only go up and the longer he can lock up Fiala the better it will be... so get ready to be disappointed because while I think a 2yr x 2.5MM makes the most sense as <a href="/users/TanSor" target="_blank">@TanSor</a> said, I could very much see a 6yr x 5MM. Fenton pushed in a lot of chips (Granlund and only to Nashville) with Fiala so he definitely doesn't trade him now... But thats just my opinion based on how I read the published articles.</div></div>
Yea I guess that makes sense with the cap continuing to go up by the time the deal is done if Fiala is any good at all it will be a steal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kallenpj</b></div><div>Thats fine... I tend to be a fan of bridge deals too, but then you risk him walking after that bridge...I think he would have to be signed to a 2 year bridge because he'd be a UFA after 3... but then you know that if he does score even 25-30 (and expecially if he scores 30+ like Zucker) he would end up with a 6-6.5MM contract two yeas from now instead of the 5MM we could pay now to buy several of his UFA years.
And as Far as TanSor's other comments... if Zucker and Ek could get a RH-C would a UFA (like a Donskoi or something) be good enough? I get the sense that most people agree that this roster isn't fixable all at once, so Fenton has to choose Center or RW for his target because he likely can only get one top 6 RW OR one top 6 C this year... I guess it is a decision on whether Staal and Koivu can hold down the middle next year so you target a RW in trade or if Staal and Koivu (esp if he is on IR) are jut not good enough then you target a C and pick up a middle 6 RW and hope that Kunin can produce or that Greenway or Fiala or Donato can produce on their off wing.
Of course that assumes that Spurgeon is not traded... If he actually is traded because he can't be re-signed long term, then that changes the complexity of the situation.</div></div>
It's probably not fixable all this year unless you do trade Zucker & Spurgeon but I think the more important thing is to find a Right shot C since Koivu probably will start the year in IR and him and Staal are not getting any younger although good centers just don't grow on trees.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Well, he's an RFA so you either sign him or trade his rights and there's no way Fenton trades him. I'm fine with giving him a long term deal as long as the money is at or under $4.5M. He has tons of skill, he just needs to figure out how to not turn the puck over. I see what Fenton means when he thinks he can be a 30+ goal scorer. I'm not sure I'm sold that he can do that, but 20+ is not out of the question (and Fiala did that in Nashville). $5M is pretty much about what it costs to get a 20+ goal scorer nowadays.
Even if you sign them to 3 year deals they're all still RFA's (you are an UFA in the NHL after either 7 seasons or you turn 27, and none of our current RFA's would hit that point prior to a 3 year deal). I just don't think any of them would want to wait 3 years to potentially be paid big money.</div></div>
Yea it's just that if we are spending 5 Mil or more a season I want the guy to be more proven and there are UFA's like that but the flip side is that they are older and would probably cost a lot more than 5Mil.
Ok I did not know it was that long in the NHL that's almost Baseball like control lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Yep, you don't have to listen to Russo to figure out that the Wild's roster is full. We need a right shot forward desperately, though. I'd prefer a center (Russo wants a winger) but ideally we add a right shot wing <em>and</em> a right shot center. We'll probably have to move Eriksson Ek along with Zucker to make that happen.
As for your contracts, I don't think Sturm deserves a penny over $1M, same for Belpedio, Eriksson Ek's contract is a year too much but the money is fine, same for Donato, and Fiala definitely isn't signing that. I think Fiala either signs a 5-6 year deal at around $5M (which I don't think he deserves but it'd be similar to Arvidsson's deal) or he signs a 2 year bridge around $2.5M.</div></div>
If thats the case I don't know if I want Fiala if that's the price? Also for length of contacts I wanted them to be offset as much as possible to avoid to many UFA's in the same year.

Yes I agree for the most part but Zucker has something we still need and that is speed. If we can trade him for a 1st or 2nd or a NHL level player who can help now I'm ok with that but speed can't be taught. Also remember 2 yrs ago now when Zucker scored 33, Dumba was healthy and Suter was able to be more offensive and did not have to just be the shutdown guy and could use he great stretch pass that he has.

I know the contracts are low and kinda short but did that for simplicity sake. I would much rather have Marner or KK then Nylander. They are younger and with how things went down this year Nylander seems like he may be a little more diva and his play may not totally make up for that. Dubas has to do something though the Leafs are in serious cap hell and even with the cap going up there is no way he can pay everyone plus his most of his D core are UFA's.
