Draft day trades Karlsson
I think the trades are a bit unrealistic. Ottawa will have to get more in order to do such a big favor for Tampa. Also my gut says point gets more in AAV. He’ll either do what nylander in Toronto did or he’ll just get a longer deal at a higher value altogether....I suppose either way for Tampa the rich get richer

Not Too Shabby But We??re Still Low-Key Tanking ???
lol no argument from me and won't disagree with anything here.....just one question, is it still considered "low-key tanking" or can we all agree that winning is not priority?
I'm not saying that we are clearly and blatantly tanking. But instead I'd argue that winning is less important and instead we are trading guys to get more valuable assets that aid a quicker rebuild while getting our young and inexperienced players more playing time with the goal of getting them used to pro hockey so that they are ready in the next 2ish years. Either way, all of this adds up to losing more in the near-term which has the obvious benefit of increasing the chances of higher draft picks, which in the most general sense possible = tanking.

Longer rebuild than anticipated
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>j303509</b></div><div>While I can fully see your argument I also think that to bring in a guy like Backes or Dubi would have the same effect on young players as signing free agents. No they might not be as good but in terms of being able to mentor young guys I think they would provide experience and would be good teachers. Not to mention they are high character guys. (Ik that can't be said for everyone on my list). I do see your point about the one year deals</div></div>
I agree that having good vets and character guys are important in developing young players, but so is playing time and experience (in combination with vet presence) and I do not believe Backes or other vets with 2+ years of high AAV is the right call. they can get other high-end vets that cost less and provide the same vet presence needed while not tying up their cap in a way that makes other more important moves impossible.

Longer rebuild than anticipated
yeah i dont see any of this happening. they're not in for as long of a rebuild, or better yet for as grueling of a rebuild, as the arizona coyotes. If they cant wait for staal's contract to expire in 2 years because they dont want to pay that AAV, theres no way they take on a big contract for even longer. I agree their young guys are at least 2-3 years from actually starting to help this team compete but you have to surround and combine those young guys with good free agents and a continual/constant influx of prospects at some point (not necessarily this offseason). However, you can't sign good free agents if you plan on taking on 3 years of backes and/or 4 years of kesler's high AAV contract - this does not solve anything. It does the exact opposite of what they want. I understand that the idea is to collect more draft picks and maybe, (and it's a hard maybe, they take on contract like clarkson or callahan for just 1 season). However, I don't think it'll happen because the team trading them to the rangers will have to part with a pick/prospect to force the rangers to take on the contract and it's more likely that the team suffers through just 1 more season of callahan or clarkson's contract (or maybe buys them out) then to give up valuable assets. For example., why would tampa trade callahan + picks/prospect when they can hold callahan for just 1 more season and instead try to trade JT miller or tyler johnson and actually receive picks/prospects and get the long term salary relief they are looking for while then bringing a rookie up to take the void left.

Well that was disappointing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Possible that management is aware that the Isles are riding a PDO bender, similar to how Vegas was last year, and decided to keep assets and keep building the team from within?</div></div>
....also highly doubt Panarin/duchene are taking any discount. If one does it's duchene. Panarin is going to a big city for high AAV.
I believe Lou Lam just didn't find anything worth trading for and breaking up a young core that he's cultivating. Islanders also getting Laad and Hickey back who they haven't had in a while is a boost. Also apparently they were seriously in on Stone but were not willing to go as high as Vegas did in terms of AAV in the contract extensions.

that's ok. theyll probably trade one of march or reilly to free up cap which is aided by their addition of stone and then bring up a rookie to fill in. but in the mean time they get a run at the cup this season with the entire squad intact and worry about the rest in the off season

literally been wondering how they're gonna fit everyone under the cap as well. I think I agree with DirtyDangles, karlsson will get a 2 year deal worth basically the same thing he's making this year and they will trade a young guy making a few million for a draft pick to open up some space and let a rookie come in full time

lol doubtful. Stone's signing an extension as we speak. Vegas didn't just give up one of their stop prospects for a potential panarin rental. CBJ is keeping panarin for their own rental.

NYR Deal
no hate or animosity here, so please don't be sensitive like everyone else when they receive comments on their trade proposals....
I just don't know if rangers do this. I understand what they're getting in return but it doesn't make sense for them because Frolik is worthless and has same exact contract as kreider and then they would be stuck trading him at next year's deadline for less than what they can just use kreider for. I think they only trade kreider if they get someone who has possibility to be a future offensive star (like tolvanen).
As for lemeiux, I'm not against rangers trading him now for future picks but no way they include him in a kreider deal solely because they dont have to. Some western conference team is going to cave right at the deadline and try to keep pace with Jets and Sharks and get kreider (or they won't and rangers keep him until next year/long term). I'd say if rangers attach someone to a kreider deal its more likely to be a depth d-man or a young guy who they don't have a need for or can spare

Possibility of maximizing Kreiders value today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>moli92</b></div><div>I dont think you would get Tolvanen & 1st + for Kreider
Also, I dont think Kreider can be signed to an extension yet since he still has 2 years left on his current contract</div></div>
I respect the comment - see my additional thought process that I just posted. I know tolvanen + 1st seems like a high ask, but I honestly think as the deadline gets closer and other teams get stronger and Nashville panics a little in order to keep pace and maximize their current stanley cup window, this will have to be their deal especially for a power forward winger with tons of skill like kreider + the additional year on his contract that they will get to benefit from. Like I explain in my other post, somewhat depends on timing of deal as the deadline approaches and other teams make their upgrades. If Kreider goes I think itll be a last minute deal where someone exceeds rangers value on him and he possibility gets traded with someone like a depth d-man like claesson or a younger guy who can fit under salary cap

Before I get a bunch of comments/critics telling me im crazy just hear me out....
1. I love kreider and he's so valuable so I hope and think there is a good chance rangers resign him to long term deal to be unquestioned leader of this young squad with Mika
2. I know this is not the exact deal, there will be other picks involved and players/retained salary to makes salary cap work
3. Return is dependent on timing (as this has potential to be like McDonaugh trade last year at the very last minute)...as we get closer to deadline and certain western teams panic for playoffs (especially after Jets got Hayes and Stone eventually gets traded), someone will pony up for Kreider
4. I think Rangers only trade Kreider if they get there potential break out star such as tolvanen. If they don't do this, they go and grab panarin or wait 2 years for who ever is available then

Stone Cold Crazy Oil
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grievous</b></div><div>I've seen Taylor Hall traded for Adam Larsson, Chris Pronger traded for less promising pieces than 20 year old Jesse Puljujarvi and Wayne Gretzky sold for a pretty underwhelming return.
This is not an unrealistic deal. Puljujarvi is still a very substantial prospect. It is an unlikely trade yes, but it is far from unrealistic.</div></div>
i think the taylor hall trade is a horrible comparison for you to basically say i've seen stranger things....everyone including oiler's knows that was a horrible trade and no GM will ever be caught attempting something like that. Rangers only trade kreider for big prospect and 1st rounder. Use hayes trade and eventual stone trade as an example - especially if stone goes first because then kreider becomes most valuable person on market FOR A PLAYOFF TEAM WHICH OILERS ARE NOT
