We’ve all been down this road, <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/826938?post_id=4854189">and I really wouldn’t bother with them.</a>
Yes, I know they got that one thing right that one time. Throw enough **** at the wall, something sticks eventually.
All of which to say, easy CBJ pass. No desire to trade an asset we don’t need to trade, at his lowest value, with retention of all things added.

I, especially, like when one person says the Leafs need a goalie on a forum post, no likes then another person responds with a snarky gif and gets all the likes
So easy and thoughtless tribalism. Mindless bots, I swear, on most public forums.</div></div>
I’m adding you to my favorites list…this is the most “very internet-dude” **** imaginable 😂 The Canucks fan perusing Leafs blogs.

lol, guess I need me a podcast and to throw as much **** at the wall as I can. Something sticks eventually. I’m sure you could ply through all these ACGMs and find a few that actually happened. IDK…CAR has such a succinct system set that I think Maine could thrive assuming he could fit in (which I think he can!)
That being said, JK is not the solution for CBJ. I’d rather take the futures than a B6 F.

Minny trade framework
I wouldn’t necessarily be against this?
The old saying is Cs can play on the W, but Ws can’t play C, so I’d take the versatility of adding Rossi in that regard. If Rossi is viewed as a long-term T6 contributor, then I’m cool with it.
I think reasonable minds can differ on this, but I’d accept.

My dude, you can’t come on this website and propose a CBJ trade (whether from you or another source), then get upset when CBJ fans post a reaction shooting it down. How would that work vice-a-versa?
This just feels like a ****tier version of the old “I’m just asking questions” argument as a means to avoid having to address the underlying issue. Here - that as much as Habs fans (or I guess, Habs beat-writers) want these trades to happen, they absolutely will not, and to sell ads and brain-space on the idea they could happen is disingenuous.
The frustration mostly is that this is not just a universally bad trade, but one <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/820755?post_id=4811193">we’ve been telling you to stop making</a> for awhile now.

Eh, CBJ pass. You’d need to add to get retention.
CBJ got nothing to lose. No need to move him. Let him get better, then come back and rebound. We can re-approach the situation later.
Worst case, someone will pay a dime for him at the TDL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoryTheGreat</b></div><div>I think merzlikens is actually a good goalie stuck on a horrible team.</div></div>
Then he’s all yours!
Goalies are voodoo. Unless you luck into a Saaros, Vasilvesky, Shesterkin, etc., it’s so difficult to predict. Particularly in a league where <a href="https://www.stat.cmu.edu/cmsac/sure/2023/showcase/hockey_saves/report.html" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">scoring is increasing, and even great goalies have diminishing save percentages and GAA.</a>
We <a href="https://thebuzz414379540.wordpress.com/2021/11/29/the-rise-and-fall-of-matt-murray/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">see it</a> all of <a href="https://insidetherink.com/the-fall-of-blues-goaltender-jordan-binnington/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">the time,</a> across <a href="https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/hockey/nhl/cult-of-hockey/edmonton-oilers-waive-jack-campbell-what-does-it-mean" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">good teams</a> and <a href="https://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/story/2023-03-16/kings-joonas-korpisalo-jonathan-quick-goalies-drew-doughty" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">bad teams.</a> Elvis could very well turn the corner in TOR, but so much more goes into that than “he’s on a horrible team.”
IMO, it’s the BOS’ and CAR’s of the world who have such profoundly great D systems that they can turn most any G into a great one.

No, I meant we get a mid-rounder, not the other way around.
It’s cheaper (in real dollars) to retain than to buy out, and limits the years he is on the books. IMO, it’s the preferable option, if possible.

Oh boy, bringing Quenneville back. Would love to see that circus, especially coming out of TOR.
And my word, CBJ would accept (though I get this is all just an exercise). Honestly, if anyone wants Elvis for free, he’s yours. I’d be willing to retain for maybe a mid-rounder or something.

Idk which is worse…giving up that entire package for Marner as a rental, or giving up that entire package so we get the privilege of paying him $13M until he’s 36.
EDIT: And knowing his production will be halved because he doesn't have Matthews or Tavares passing him the puck.

If the goal here is just “can this team be at least a WC2?”
Sure.
But realistically, pass on the trades. I’d love JM or Chandler on those contracts, but they’ll do better.
