They might even go with a 21-man roster early to max cap growth

Tonight at the Bruins
The press seems to have been generally favorable of his play so that is something. Panarin did mention Kravtsov was holding the puck incorrectly for NA rinks. To me, he seemed to hesitate some when in the flow of passing. Given what was said by Panarin probably adjusting. He will have a learning curve but also showed well on his one-timer from the right, quite powerful.

If Othmann breaks camp with the Rangers, then it must be a commit to the whole season, no 9-game run. Otherwise, seasonal depth will be hurt a lot.

Rydall looks like a prototypical 4C. He had a solid game, moves well, is crafty, and is strong in the PK. Waiver-exempt so probably sent down to serve as cheap depth.

2022-23 New York Rangers Roster
The Rangers tried unsuccessfully to trade for a high-ceiling Center prospect during the off-season. As was mentioned in other comments, local boy and the cost is very high. The plan is to use the Stars 2023 first-rounder, which with any luck will be in 11-20 and that gets a top 5 center prospect in a different year. They are scouting the NTDP heavily with prospects Will Smith and Oliver Moore talked about. It will be very hard to get this pick from them.

Way Out Matty for Laffy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Beniers has looked better in his 10 game stint than Lafreniere has looked in his 2 year career so far. Why would the Kraken even consider moving Beniers for a downgrade, or even at all, especially since he was the Kraken’s first ever pick?
I mean, the difference is upside is huge too. Beniers has 1C upside, whereas Lafreniere has 1W upside. You can groom a player into a 1W role. True 1C are harder to find, let alone groom into that role.
Why would any team be giving Lafreniere a “leader” role? He hasn’t earned, and unless you someone like McDavid, you aren’t going to be gifted a leadership role either.</div></div>
Point taken, and why I said lots of pain and backlash from the fanabase.
At this point, Beniers is an unknown
NYR wants players to develop their 200-foot game first. Lafreniere has been blocked so far from almost any PP time but has been a very efficient scorer 5v5. Given 1st line and PP1 playing time his numbers would shoot up. During the playoffs, he didn't back down from whatever was thrown his way and in general carries himself impressively like a leader. The Kraken could grow with him.
5v5 goals through first 101 NHL games:
38 - Matthews
27 - Crosby
24 - McDavid
21 - Lafreniere
20 - Hischier
18 - Stamkos
17 - Kane, MacKinnon
16 - Hall, Yakupov
15 - NugentHopkins
13 - Tavares
10 - Hughes

The gamble
A way out trade that would never happen and I don't necessarily advocate, but I like better is Beniers for Lafrenière straight up.
Both draftees have significance. Laffy is NYR's first ever #1 overall and Beniers is the first ever pick in Kraken history. Cancel out?
Kraken can handle Lafrenière's next contract, have Wright already drafted as a replacement, add young talent to wingers and a potential leader for years to come
NYR gets a physical Center that can slot in at 3C right away, 2023 cap relief, and relieve the LW top 6 jam

Turcotte is a smaller guy with concussion problems. Not a good combination.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>That retention slot would likely be worth at least a third. They have other players to trade that they could retain on that would probably give them a better return. Toews I think has fallen off quite a bit but this year he has alot to play for, his pride plus a new contract next season. I think he's going to be motivated this year and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes two seconds to acquire him.</div></div>
If there are other options for trade candidates, then that could decide things because Chicago could also be in the position that they have to retain in order to move him.
His quickness seemed to be really going, maybe an unknown injury or other explainable reason.

I like your reasoning. It is all speculation now, he could well go for that depending on how well he plays and how many suiters.
In your estimation what level is he playing at (1c, 2c, etc)?

The Top 3 Lines as Mentioned by Gallant Earlier Today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shakabakes</b></div><div>They played great together. Plus, he is more comfortable at his natural spot.
I don't think Gallant is punishing him by putting him on the 3rd line. He might just think he provides the most value there.</div></div>
I don't disagree, Blais is quite skilled and he could fit in great. No punishment, I would say it is 50/50 whether they end up swapping, Gallant wants to see them working hard in camp and would say something like Lafrenière has had a great camp and deserves to be on the 1st line. Make him feel good. It does come down to chemistry and there should be no judgments about what line you are on. I like that Kravtsov is on the 2nd line, style-wise he seems to fit in great there.

Which Trade for Kane Would You Prefer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Kane has already said he wants to see what happens in the first part of the season which is a direct translation, if he waives, it will be to a team he knows he can put them over the top. He is a student of the game, an addict that when not playing/training he is watching games and tape. He studies every team like he were a coach. Wherever he goes, he knows what kind of impact he can bring and not bring so I bet where he goes turns into a conference final team at a minimum.
I don't know what NY will or will not offer, but it's going to take a Kaapo or Otthmann type of player to land kane....not a A+ elite level prospect but a solid A/A- top 6 player.</div></div>
Another factor in Kane's price is whether Pastrnak becomes available.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>You are pose the same argument with Kravtsov then.
It's going to have to move the needle for Kane depending on how many teams he's willing to waive for. The more, let's say NYR, Toronto, Edmonton, throw in Vegas or Florida, and the more the price goes up obviously. Especially in that instance, (2) late 1sts or a 1st and a B level prospect isn't going to land him. Kane is a game changer especially in the playoffs, it's been a long time since the NHL has seen a player of that caliber available as a rental for the playoffs. Giroux is the closest example in recent years but Kane is hands down better and likely wouldn't also pigeon-hole the Hawks to one team like he did.</div></div>
I suspect the reason why Kane didn't want to be traded before the season is so he could pull a GIroux. He doesn't want to be traded to just a good team, but the team he thinks will win given how the season is going. This does not really change the NYR approach. They are not going to weaken the current depth much to bring on a rental. I agree, the trades presented here aren't enough, the package will be really nice, just not the players you're talking about.

I doubt the NYR will take much from their roster depth in any trade. Othmann is just about part of this team and likely going nowhere. It will be a heavily laden futures and younger prospects package.

As for Kravtsov, it was well reported that Rangers had him on the block last October after he failed to make team and returned to Traktor.
My point was, in a vacuum, the offer of two 1sts is probably my greater than the offer of a 1st and Kravtsov.</div></div>
Sure, I understand, only comment by Drury was that Kravtsov is an all-world talent. I think it was a short-sided decision by Kravtsov to return to the KHL, he was getting sent to the AHL to tighten up his 200-foot game and would have been back up within a month. I agree given Chicago's teardown that two firsts would be more attractive.
