In a NHL where the cap is 80 milllion yes he does. De la Rose is really coming into his own as shown by his play the second half of the season and at the world championships... next year can be a breakout year

Montreal Debut
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>Five stars for wanting O'Reilly.
IMO Galchenyuk > Faulk so Byron and the 2nd
On the other hand take out O'Reilly and Pacioretty I think that is a pretty close trade for Scandella. 2nd, 7th defenseman (Buffalo has about 6 of them), a free agent who at 26 has played 94 games with 14 goals and 6a/7b defense man (as I said Buffalo have a lot of those). IMO Botterill will exchange pleasantries with Bergevin then so no thank you. BTW I would think one would need to add to Pacioretty to get O'Reilly.</div></div>
Although I agree that Galchenyuk has equal value to Faulk many don’t see it that way so I was trying to be fair... I like this scenario because it 100% fixes Montreal’s problems on D and if they wanted to they could call up a winger or sign a cheaper winger and free up cap space instead of signing Perron

MINNESOTA FANS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>No interest in a Patches rental for the cost of a recent 1st still on his ELC. LW isn't a team need, and promising RHS FWDs (possibly a center) is a team need.
Lindgren, Juulsen, Chucky (kind of), and Gally would be the MTL assets the Wild should be looking at.
Poehling is nice too, but he's entering his Jr year now, so MN (hometown boy) might be able to snatch him up as a college FA if he goes back for his Sr. year. He's in that weird limbo college guys can fall into. Trading his rights at some point to MN might be in MTL's best interest. I'm just speculating here, but Wild fans were going through something similar with Belpedio and Greenway recently.</div></div>
this is hilarious, Montreals in desperate need of a C and you think poehling, their first rounder last year, is going to burn his entire contract in college and then try to go to another team??? hell no, he'll be in college one more year, join montreal at the end of next year, play his first full season with the team and then a decision will be made... likely a contract extension

picks swap with EDM
this is interesting and as a habs fan i want to say yes considering theyll finally have some depth at center and a legit partner for weber however Bob Mckezie Described Zadina and Svechnikov as Generational goal scorers so thats pretty tough to pass on... maybe if EDM throws in a LW like slepyshev to replace that depth at the spot. Also tough considering i think zadina or svechnikov replace patioretty if hes traded

Montreal Improve Through Draft And Free Agency
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Truebeliever</b></div><div>You actually still have about $5M in cap space. You've still got it set at last year's number (it will go up $4M or so) and you have 24 players on the roster. Only 23 count.
If you can get Stastny and Perron, you can afford to be a little more aggressive on the D. Rather than Hickey (who is a 5-6 option), I'd like to put Jack Johnson with Weber and Jon Moore with Petry. I actually favour putting Mete in Laval for 3 months of 30-minutes-per-game alongside Lernout, while grooming Alzner (playing with Juulsen and Reilly) for a trade-deadline move.</div></div>
true, i think considering that they could be getting zadina they dont necessarily need more wingers (although perron had a terrific season despite injuries and is from quebec for what its worth) feel like it would make sense to get stastny and a cheaper center defensively and then take the rest of your cap space to go after Jon Carlsson and Maybe a cheap speedy d man

Habs Free Agency (part 2)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KeepingItChill</b></div><div>You're not managing the cap very well. Face it, I don't see much short of a miracle for MTL to make a cup run next year, so better to stock the shelves and get ready for winter. Take a look at next years UFAs. Karlsson, Seguin, Duchene, Panarin, Skinner, Couture, Pavelski, Doughty... The list goes on. If we lock ourselves like Toronto or Chicago, we'll miss that train.</div></div>
It’s not about a cup run next year it’s about making solid steps forward on defence and offence all while injecting youth into the line up... also Colorado had one of the worst seasons in NHL history last year and make the playoffs without duchene. Anything can happen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KeepingItChill</b></div><div>Agreed, but remember how Montreal got him in the first place? Suprise, as a UFA. They actually picked him up off waiver but that’s neither here nor there... also I find that Montreal has too many depth wingers so one of them ha to go

Stastny prtsihns for more, hoping for less on a longer term is a maybe but not likely. Carlson will probably go for 7 years, signing him I’d also sealing Weber’s fate to be moved.</div></div>
Maybe so but all the top teams have to work around the cap... look at Toronto this year, they’re considered an up and coming young young team yet are bound to the cap hit. A lot better than not spending it. Also the idea in getting Carlson is to finally have a D partner for Weber who will not be traded on that contract. You can get rid of beagle and give Stastny more... I thought it better/easier to do Stastny and Carlson than go all in on Tavares

Otherwise, decent I guess.</div></div>
Byron is good and I think his cap hit nets a second for him the thing is though is that he’s had two surprisingly good season so it’s a question of if he can keep it up... if he does well again this year MTL might not want to pay him and if he does poorly he’s a UFA with no value

Montreal Lines Last 20 Games
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs4ever</b></div><div>Line by line based on your line up.
Line 1: all 3 are creative and can cause havoc offensively. This might also force them to smarten up and play good D.
Line 2: Danault seems to do well with Patch. Lehkonen is super smart and great in D-zone but he is either snake bitten or over evaluated on offense.
Line 3: Hudon hustles and Gallagher is playing his best hockey. I am not a big fan of De La Rose but last night he played amazing. If he can play like that on regular basis, he becomes valuable.
Line 4: I have never been a fan of A. Shaw, ever since his days in the OHL. He is good in spurts, but over a full season is overpaid. Byron is good but not a 4th line player. Evans had a good NCAA career and might be better off in AHL for 1 yr or 2.
Line 5: I am a big fan of Deslauriers because he gives you exactly what a 4th line winger should give. Heavy hits and occasional glove drop. McCarron is a huge body but not sure where he plays. Does he do another year in the AHL or is it time to cut ties.
Line 6: L. Shaw gives you a good 4th line presence. Can play C or RW and hits well and bigger body.
Defense:
D1: Mete is playing well and Petry is playing better on D. Both can skate and move puck.
D2: Alzner is playing better and using is size. He even came to his goalies defense yesterday which was nice to see. I am very impressed with Juulsen. His puck movement is much better than expected.
D3: Not a fan of Schlemko. Would love to see him gone. He still has 2 yrs at 2.1. Will be hard to move. Reilly, do not know much about him but agree he needs to play and be seen.
D4: Not a big fan of Benn, but he played a very sound game last night. Lots of smart plays with plenty of chatter. Same thing for Valiev as I said about Reilly. He needs to play and be seen.
D5: Love Weber but he is shut down until next year not a bad thing. Come back healthy.
G1: Lindgren is weird. He plays crap in AHL but plays amazing in NHL. He played awesome last night. Play him and he is probably the #2 for next few years.
G2: Niemi had terrible stats when he arrived but he is playing amazing with MTL. Is it a coincidence he is reunited with his goalie coach from his days with Chicago.
G3: I love Price, it is a huge contract and I hope it does not bite MTL is the rear in coming years. Make sure he is super healthy and let him take his time. Lindgren and Niemi playing well.</div></div>
Guys like Lehkonen and Hudon have substancial offensive upside but are definitely snake bitten. Lindgren doesn’t play poor in the AHL, his stats are poor because he has a very bad team in front of him. AHL not an easy league for goalies. Evans will likely get a chance this season in Montreal with Plekanec being traded.

Deadline day
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Honestly the lack of trades from the Habs on deadline day did not bother me one bit.
What really pissed me off was Bergefail’s press conference. What a joke that was. Only thing I saw during that was a coward trying his best to give the least amount of information humanly possible to the media, and by extension, the fans.
The amount of BS coming out of Bergefail.... “we don’t know where the Pacioretty rumours came from”.... seriously, I’m willing to bet there’s was a collective eye roll from everyone in that press room. And when Bergefail continued to deny trying to trade Patches, a reporter called his bluff and asked if he would sign him to an extension July 1st. And Bergefail’s answer was terrible, completely trying to deflect the question. “He’s an important player, but it’s too early to talk about what might happen after July 1st”....no Sh¡t Sherlock! It’s because you’re trying to trade him!
Honestly a bit of transparency would be appreciated from Management to the fan base. Habs fans don’t need a stinkin letter, all we want is the teams biggest representative (GM) not lie and make a fool of himself on national television...because it makes the fans look like fools too. Ever heard of the saying “who’s the bigger idiot? The idiot or the one that follows him?” I don’t think Moulson or Bergefail have.</div></div>

They don’t... and I don’t either teams should make this trade it just doesn’t make sense. I say Anaheim should add a pick or prospect due to the fact that patioretty is higher valued player not off cap space projection or anything else. Montreal could use that top pairing LHD but they could get that through the draft whereas they need patioretty to get a Center considering odds arnt great to sign JT. they’re not going to be in the business of 1 for 1 trades for the foreseeable future. They’re targeting picks and prospects and more important a Center. Also I don’t know why Anaheim would want to trade Lindholm after already trading Vantanen this year. Maybe if anaheim threw in a prospect or a pick but patioretty’s price is steep and they’ll get what they want at the draft
