I think he very well might blow it up. Looking at that division Calgary is well behind Edmonton and Vegas in terms of talent. LA continues to improve. He’s got a lot of contracts expiring this year so he will either need to extend them and hope to pass one of the above teams in a short window, or hit reset and sell off assets. Hanafin won’t be the only player that opts to play elsewhere. Conroy need to look no further than Detroit to see the cost of delaying a necessary roster overhaul. I don’t have a crystal ball but I think Calgary may have an active draft night.

Some great points. But I think Detroit’s biggest issue is top end NHL talent. Harder to find that via draft and free agency. Adding two 40 goal scorers and a top four D man should make this team competitive today and moving forward.

Hanifin wants out of Calgary and the rumor mill is swirling? Is there any package Calgary could create to make this work? Would Wallinder be enough going the other way. Trying to be realistic. Conroe isn’t an idiot and you have to give to get. Edvidsson looks like a blue chip prospect and you’d need that to make a deal liek this work.

And yes as stated obviously dependent on ability to sign long term.

Understood. My experience on this website is fans overvalue their own prospects. If I can get a top 4 dman that’s 26 and playing 20+ minutes a night and a 28 year old center who’s floor is 20 goals and scored 40 two years ago, I’m gonna go get em.

Keep in mind with your window analogy, that there’s two sides to that analogy. For example, Larkin’s in his prime now. Isn’t there an equal argument to be using that to its full potential. Especially with the war chest of picks and prospects.

Suppose Servelli is wrong and it is Begerren needed to make Debrincat deal? Do you make it. Or just hope he gets his 40 goal season before Larkin is on the wrong side of 30…

All fair. One question. Is there a middle ground? Do we have to sit and wait for picks? Or can we weaponize some assets to accelerate. The above roster - which in the description is described as unlikely. But even in this plan the Wings have a ton of premium picks and prospects. They’re not all going to hit and consistent losing takes its toll. If not this, what would you recommend they do to get more competitive next season? Or would you do nothing and let it slowly build? Respect that if so but I am just too impatient

Depending on who the player is, the pick changes. Berggren would act as a 1st since he has only improved since being taken where he was. A 2nd and small piece would accompany him. Kubalik at MAX is a 2nd at the TDL, so the NYI would be involved and possibly another bigger third piece (depending on OTT wanting a pick to flip, a depth piece, another prospect, etc.).</div></div>

It makes sense in the scenario (trying to make the best team this year spending to the cap).

Doesn’t matter. My goal in the description was to get feedback on the trades and UFA #s. You mentioned Ottawa and Calgary are both rejected. Thanks for providing that. How far off? Would Calgary require a 2nd high pick or a different LD in return? Wallinder?

Sujet: Oilers RNH
The reason many people request trades with AA is his holdout in 2017. The perceive he doesn’t want to be here.

The logic behind my trade is many RFAs for Wings next offseason including AA, Mantha, Bertuzzi. Trading for RNH (who is only 20 months older and signed for an additional season) gives Wings a 1-2 punch at center that rivals just about anyone in league. I think the Oilers have some cap pressure and will be looking to make a move.

I can understand a reluctance to trade picks, but the Wings have lots of draft assets and only so many pro contracts to give. Using a couple to improve the most important position, and shake up a losing roster, makes sense IMO.

Could they keep AA, sure. I probably agree with you. But the point of Armchair GM is to mess around with potential deals, right?
