Description
Continuing to look for Wings trades with cap-strapped teams. I have no idea if this is the right return for the local guy Rust. Does anyone have a tool or chart that provides worth of picks or anything like that?

Anyways curious in your feedback. Wings have a ton of depth at LW so I think Kufner, Hirose, and a hopefully healthy Svech, could all be coupled with one of the many picks they hold to upgrade a position of need. Not sure if there’s a defenseman that would work in similar fashion. I know I’ll get feedback they shouldn’t trade any picks. I disagree. If they can get a young scorer at a reasonable AAV, they should target them and use picks if needed. They’ll be lucky if they hit 40% of draft class w/ NHL games.

Rust is worth a 2nd round pick outright -or- a prospect with middle six potential and a 4/5th round pick -or- a one for one swap with another roster player of similar caliber/age/contract.

Rust is a fan favorite in Pittsburgh and no way will Penguins let him go for any cheaper than this. This guy nailed the value on Rust hands down!

Good value on Rust. The Penguins though wouldn't do it because Rust is a critical part of the team and as the Penguins want to stay a competitor.

I kind of disagree. I think if Rust was part of a package deal to revamp the team, they'd do it in a heartbeat. Have to remember, they were ready to trade Rust for Domi last year.

So because Rust, in your opinion, is a fan favorite, his value is perceived higher? The guy was a virtual no show all season long except for 2 months where he tore it up. Then was no show late in the season and in the playoffs. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mark my words. Rutherford will tear this team down into the dirt just to protect his self-proclaimed ego. He did it in Carolina. It's his M.O. The trades he made post championship were brutal and the contracts handed out were worse. He was successful in Pittsburgh because the core roster was basically set prior to his hiring. Botterill was the true architect of the Cup winning teams. Rutherford has an old hockey philosophy and it shows. Who in their right mind changes the dynamic of the teams identity to withstand an opponent they had beaten numerous times? His notion of "Not being pushed around" or "Now we have pushback" along with bad contracts and panic transactions is why they are in the situation they're in now. The Reaves experiment didn't work. Wilson is a plug. Gudbranson is viable to a degree but not worth the cap hit. They won back to back championships based on speed and skill. Other teams have copied that formula and we dismantled that. Not that Sheary was anything special but to trade him just to sign Jack Johnson was a major step backwards as well. The first move the Penguins need to make is removing that dinosaur from his office.

Is there a way to extend already signed players on armchair gm? I looked through the FAQ but didn’t find it. The only thing I can think is to create a “new” player to reflect future AAV...
