Trade down with LA - clean up future cap sheet

Personally I don’t do it.</div></div>
If I were Kings management I wouldn't do it either. This all comes down to how much better than Byfield/Stutzle and the wingers they already have in their pool they think Lafreniere is. There's an inflection point where it makes perfect sense to do a deal like this

Who's talking about need? If the stars align and LA values Lafreniere that high, than my belief is that the Rangers should make a swap along those lines. And like I said above, happy to trade Georgiev for just one 2nd too.

Good moves with Strome and Smith and Georgie for Labanc trade is fair value.</div></div>

If Winnipeg would do this for less, that's obviously gravy from a Rangers fan perspective. I just put the price I'd be willing to pay.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>haha sorry, some of the folks here are vultures. It's less about those 2 than it is about simply upgrading. Moving from Smith to Weegar to me (in regards to cap hit AND player quality) is totally worth the price, and I figure Tallon would take on someone like Smith. I also don't love Hajek so turning him into Pettersson is an upgrade as well. I was originally trying to think of a way to pry Butcher or Severson away from Jersey, but I'm not sure if that works.
Ultimately I'm just concerned about making upgrades across the board, than say trying to turn a bottom 5 team into a cup favorite in one offseason -- I don't think that's realistic.</div></div>
There are a lot of angry people here :)
This is definitely an upgrade, but I worry that you're investing a lot of cap in the kind of player who we have a profusion of coming up through the system

Trying all the Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>Thanks for the input, though the presumption that I was only using micro-stats to guide personnel moves was a poor one.
Over the last 2 seasons Weegar is 6th in the NHL in Shot differential and 5th in the league in Scoring Chance differential among dmen
To Top it off he's a top 40 in Goal differential and Expected goal differential as well.
His statistical profile most closely resembles Travis Dermott in basically all aspects aside from secondary assists ---which I think you can easily account for if you replace Weegar's time with guys like Sceviour and Malgin and McCann with Dermott's time with guys like Matthews, Marner and Tavares.
Also find it weird that all this didn't come up in your "statistical profile"?</div></div>
I'm not coming after you man, just trying to understand. I use HERO charts and the A3Z comparison tool for quick and dirty assessments. Neither of those two looked particularly impressive there, except for Petterson's scoring rate and Weegar's zone-entry defense. And when I asked you, you used Weegar's zone entry play as the reason you settled on him. If he's so impressive in other more important areas than I understand, and have no issue.

I don't believe raw points are the only thing that matters. Puck possession, puck moving, and defense are all things that centers need to be good at. Perreault is one of the best centers in the league at all that, Howden was one of the worst last season. Doesn't mean Howden is a bust, but it does mean that he's not a winning player just yet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Can't help but feel that you're giving up WAY too much for Perreault, especially considering the cap crunch Winnipeg is about to be hit with. Likewise, you aren't offering Carolina enough for Fox, but at the same time, they're risking losing him for free. Tough call.
I think Andersson needs to be in a better position to succeed if the Rangers are going to avoid doing to him what Edmonton did to Puljujarvi. I'd look at giving Kravtsov a year in the AHL in order to help him adjust to North American ice, moving Kakko to his strong side (RW), and putting Andersson in the #3LW spot. Your lines for the most part are a bit screwy, but I think that's one of the most glaring things that needed to change.
Also, I don't think Georgiev would be waivers eligible anymore; if you're committing to Shesterkin, he'll need to be traded or lost for nothing.</div></div>
I think you guys are way underrating Perrault. But again, the point of this isn't to maximize return, but to show what a realistic aggressive offseason from the Rangers might look like. If you think we can pry Perrault away for less than what I'm offering then I'm all for that.
As for Fox, the Canes have zero leverage here. I'm pretty sure in the end all it's going to take is a deal that lets them save face.
I think Bellemare would be a great vet for Andersson to play with, and the intention would be to give Andersson more opportunities higher in the lineup as the season goes along and injuries happen/coach shuffles lines for chemistry reasons.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmach</b></div><div>Ehh? you just spent almost $20M a year on Panarin and Skinner and you want to wait for couple of years while rebuilding? LOL</div></div>
I don't want to wait, I think that group will be good enough to make the playoffs right away. I'm just saying there's no pressure. Panarin and Skinner are young enough that you're going to get at least 3-4 seasons with them as elite goal-scorers, which means the Rangers would have some time to get this right. And waiting to sign free agents is a bad idea in my opinion, because free agents of the caliber of Panarin and Skinner are simply not available most summers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>First off it's very rare for any team to go after two top end free agents at once. Minnesota was the last one to do that, and they probably regret the outcome (or will in three years). But assuming the rangers targetted one guy here... It's still a gamble. Adding one talent to an unproven team is almost worthless to start. A year of the contract gone without going anywhere. Especially after selling at this trade deadline... why sell just to get good immediately after. They want to do a proper rebuild. This is rushing it.</div></div>
I give up. If you've got an actual explanation of how practically this move could hurt the Rangers long-term chances of building a sustainable cup contender I'm all ears. Otherwise, I bid you a good night.

Is there some possible scenario with the way the kids develop where it would somehow be bad to have two elite goal-scorers on your team? I understand not selling off draft assets or prospects or being careful with your cap space until you know more about how productive your young core actually is. But none of that is happening in this scenario. So again, I'm just struggling to see the potential downside here. What could go wrong that would make signing Panarin and Skinner a mistake?

I think the rangers will add larger assets in FA starting after next season. (Or at the TDL if they surprise us) They might add a few middle six talents this FA.</div></div>
Again, how does adding talent stop you from developing talent? I would argue that getting to play with more talented linemates would make learning and adjusting to the NHL easier.
