<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Again he wasnt the issue that game or series. Issue was our PP was dog**** 1/21 and this team couldnt score to save its life
Sammy had a 0.910 that game
Basically how we were playing was to where goalie had to get a shutout or only allow 1 goal to win not a viable strategy for a team who in the regular season averaged around 3.65 goals per game
This teams paying a bunch of guys to score but in 13 of their last 14 couldnt get it done enough
As said before did not matter who was in net the bigger problems caught up. 12 goals in 7 games = unacceptable for TOR who finished second in goals this season
Nylander came in late and had the same goals by the end as JT, Marner, Matthews combined lul. He gets the pass rest no way hose
Embarrassing as the last issue for TML should be scoring goals since game 5 of last playoff vs TBL they have had this problem
As for new coaching to solve its not enough. Marner Matthews and Willy have been here 8 years and JT 6 and of that 1 series win. Were paying these guys as if they won cups and for regular season performances but come playoffs the fizzle out with only Will performing good enough for now. Once that 11.5m kicks in he's also gonna have to step it up a bit. Enough its time for a change
Cant just keep building around the edges or replacing GM'S, HC, etc time to fix this team at its core
FLA was not afraid to trade Huberdeau
VGK trades guys almost all the time
Its time to start the winds of change and start a new era for TOR. Follow the raptor formula get a new HC and trade a core piece out to balance the team</div></div>
Florida won the Tkachuck trade. Do you think we are going to win a Marner trade? We literally have the GM who lost that trade making the decisions.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Now the rant.
Shanahan and Keefe need to be gone. Absolutely no justification for them being with this team next year. Tree get a bit of grace with it being his first year on the job but I want a new president pressuring him to make big changes.
Marner at a minimum need to be gone from the core 4. Tavares is going to be hard to move, but I don’t care, find a way. Buy him out if you have too. And maybe it’s an overreaction but I honestly think a Matthews trade should be explored. How many more crap playoff performances do we need to endure before we hold him accountable. I’m sick of Matthews getting a pass because he’s a generational talent. Trade him and get a massive haul and retool on the fly.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>At this point I want them to look at Matthews trades. We need to stop only criticizing Marner and giving Matthews a pass. Matthews has been crap in the playoffs year after year and every year we go “well he’s a generational talent”. I don’t care, if he’s only going to score 1 goal every playoff round in a random game 2, he’s a useless player.</div></div>
Here's my backup to your point: Imagine where Edmonton and Colorado would be if the likes of McDavid/Draisaitl, MacKinnon/Makar were putting up numbers that Matthews and Marner have these playoffs and past playoffs.
Our top players are paid similar to what other top players around the league make so the production offensively and defensively has to match that of other players around the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronSquires</b></div><div>That's just unreasonable to say trade Matthews. He shows up more than most, he single handedly made the game 4 comeback last year.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>He has 24 points (10 goals) in 23 games over the last 3 playoffs</div></div>
Yah but he’s supposedly a generational talent. Point per game, 10 goals in 24 playoff games when he has 69 in 81 games is simply not good enough, there’s no 2 ways about it. Not to mention he sucks in elimination games.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a phenomenal player and I’m not going to be disappointed if (well, when) he’s still in the leafs next year (Marner is the main one who needs to be yeeted into the sun). I’m just annoyed that he constantly isn’t as good as he should be when it matters most.

Let's go! Grebyonkin is (in my opinion) the Leafs best prospect. This kid does it all. He was super successful in the KHL despite having an ever-changing role, and constantly looked incredible. Greb is a warrior and a KHL champion.
Such a good prospect and a complete steal for the Leafs in the later stages of the draft. I cannot wait to see him in North America, he is going to turn a lot of heads. Remember the name

I love Grebyonkin, he is looking to be such a steal for a 5th rounder, winning KHL rookie of the year last year.
I have high hopes for him
Interesting that they signed him for this year, is it to get him money for this year and burn a year?

I know you (like I) want Keefe fired and wanted him gone at least a year ago if not longer but the coach stuff aside, this core of players has NOT done enough over the 3-4 years. The coach stuff is what it is but need to expect more and better out of the core.
When you compare this core to other top players in the playoffs (McDavid, Draistl, MacKinnon, Makar, Zabinejad, Aho, the list can keep going) what the Leafs are getting out of these guys is not nearly enough.
It's okay to admit that, I promise.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>I watched some of the jets game today. And comparing their style vs TO's is ridiculous. They skate so fast and pressure you in waves. TO is predictable. They cycle in the offensive zone and slowly. Sure it works in the regular season but in the playoffs. Teams figure it out, keep us to the outside and then we can't score. And Keefe does nothing to adjust. Like zero rush chances with this system. The PP is also predictable as well.
It's systems stuff and adjustments need to be made to attack what the opposing team gives us and that doesn't happen. So it's hard to pin the blame on the core. They have produced, not enough to mask the flaws on the team obviously but they have produced. And that production has come in spite of the poor game planning and coaching.</div></div>
Notice that I named players from many different teams and could have kept going on with that list. But anyway...
I have a comparable for you. From strictly a coaching point of view, Toronto and Edmonton were similar in that Keefe and Woodcroft. I feel similarly about Woodcroft to how I feel about Keefe but the difference has been is McDavid and Draisaitl have been showing up regardless of who is coach.
We'll just have to agree to disagree with the discussion of core guys making a difference.

Marner is a great player whose given a short leash. He's either forced to be Matthews' personal assistant or carry the load of Tavares and Knies. Under another coaches system, Marner would pot 40 goals.
If we were to trade him (which would be a huge mistake), I actually don't hate Random2152 's idea. I'd love to get Doan out of Arizona / Utah, big fan of that kid. I think Crouse would be an unmitigated disaster under Keefe though, he seems to struggle with players like that. Unless you are a low maintenance speedy 2 way winger, you won't find success under Keefe. He completely fails to utilize those wildcard players to their strengths. The only teams that make sense for Marner IMO are New Jersey and Utah. Again though, I'd be crushed to see him dealt</div></div>

The problem with Robertson on the top 2 lines is he isn't a puck retriever. Matthews needs a puck retriever (Hyman, Bunting and now Bertuzzi) and a playmaker (Nylander, Marner or Domi). Robertson is a shooter as well and is too small to go get pucks in the corner. It will effectively nullify their ability to cycle the puck and make them an almost exclusively a rush line. Not optimal at all.

Yep, that we can agree on. Problem is, that doesn't happen every game.
I'm gonna go one step further and say Matthews has to build on this effort tonight especially when you consider Marner really hasn't done much in this series so far.
