The Leafs could likely keep him too. He is an effective player. I just don't want to overpay to keep him as a 4th line guy and I like the idea of more snarl on the 4th line.</div></div>
Yeah with the cap crunch you wanna get efficient with the bottom six, makes sense. I really like him for the Sabres actually, especially on the third line. But they'd probably have to move mittelstadt and put Asplund back at C or acquire a new one. Both of which I would do, but I don't think the Sabres wanna move Casey yet.

Engvall's possession numbers are pretty solid. Id do that. We'd have to make room for him though.

Sorry grit might have been the wrong word, an intimidation factor maybe? Someone who can stand up for their team while not also being a complete pylon during gameplay. I like Garland but unlike Miller he can get pushed around rather easily

He would cost less, and be marginally lower cap hit-- but he's not as good, or as ideal a fit as Miller could be. It's also a 5 year commitment, with no major cap increases upcoming.
It's not awful, but not the move I would make.

You know that thought crossed my mind too, of how much more would you have to pay to get some salary retention.
Probably need another first or too prospect in this deal

lot of people knocking on Crouse.
Not that I think he's worth that. But I'll give him credit. He's got 10 5v5 goals in 41 games. He's getting production.
At 24 I think he's probably a guy I'd take a run at, but not for that.

Imagine if the Leafs traded for Tyler Bertuzzi
First of all, he would not be able to play any of your home games, plus about a third of your road games. And that's before we even get to the locker room disruption he causes. Secondly, that package you want to send for him is not even close to adequate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevorchef</b></div><div>I would do that Arizona trade were it ever on the table. I doubt it would be.
Klingberg would be a wonderful add. Its just that the Leafs really aren't in a position to add a player of that magnitude with their cap situation and a depleted draft capital pool. At some point, you have to consider the future.
Its probably best to let someone else overspend on Klingberg. Because it will happen. I am certain of that.</div></div>
tbh with ya, I'm in the same boat when it comes to thinking about the future. Yeah, id be happy with having Klingberg, but id be more intrigued with a Scott Mayfield or a Ben Chariot, as they come at a cheaper expense, that way, we hold on to the future's. Its only a matter of time before the likes of Robertson, Amirov, Niemela and Knies joins the team

Regardless of what happens with Nick Ritchie moving forward, feel like the Leafs up to this point have given him every opportunity to establish himself and he hasn't come close to seizing it.</div></div>
He got the first shot in the Top 6 instead of Bunting. Spent time on both Matthews' and Tavares' wing.
Got some chances on the 3rd line, but he's not a fit on Kampf's wing, especially when there are two better options for that role in the bottom 6 on the roster.
And, the LW playing with Spezza and Simmonds really should have a bit of speed and puck carrying ability, or that becomes a very slow plodding trio. So, he's not a fit there either.

12 better forwards. 7 NHL dmen that should be on the roster.
If Leafs could carry more than 21 skaters he wouldn't be waived.

when healthy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>All I was saying is what if the Leafs dont stay healthy, it'd be a minor miracle if they did (no other team has or can). My point wasn;t that the leafs were different, its just fools gold to think they are and that they'll ever be healthy, and unlike some they're closer to the cap.
I think it unlikely holl goes to minors and doesn;t get claimed?</div></div>
OK. I agree. Since the Leafs have acquired Kerfoot (with the intention to run a Johnsson - Kerfoot- Kapanen 3rd line) they have never been fully healthy. They haven't had it as bad as other teams, they've just always had at least 1 regular out of the lineup.
Holl will get claimed, they won't waive him. They'd waive Ritchie first.
IMO, if they get closer to full health (no one on LTIR) they have to start considering moving Holl or maybe Engvall. Liljegren is getting closer and closer to looking like a legit upgrade on Holl.
If they could move one or both of those guys, and acquire some cheaper depth (maybe Schenn and a retained Motte from Vancouver?) they can accumulate a bit more capspace for one more deadline deal for a decent player. If Liljegren looks good beside Muzzin, target a LW. If Liljegren looks over his head, target a RHD.
My two cents.

If there's any chance Leafs want to move Mrazek this summer in order to have space for Soupy's raise, then he needs to actually play some games this season.

I think the undervalued factor here is how well Kerfoot had played to start the season. Given our (lack) of depth at LW and frankly, at C if one of our current Cs got hurt, I wouldn't consider him expendable even at 3.5M.
From there, I don't think Dunn is worth more than Robertson alone but could maybe get Dermott in that too, and I wouldn't trade Engvall+Kerfoot for Appleton

I also bet you that Robertson doesn't play 300 games in the NHL. Injury prone. He should be part of any trade that the Leafs make IMO. Maybe they can swindle somebody before it becomes too well known.</div></div>
Robertson reminds me a lot of Mangipane. A smaller forward with a ton of speed that can score a ton. The Leafs have a gem in Robertson, and people seem to have forgotten that because of a few unlucky injuries that very few have the ability to just shake off.

As a Ducks fan, I can't imagine any reason why Comtois would be on the market. Fits the timeline, fills a valuable role, etc., etc., etc...
Kind of at the stage of the rebuild where if you're moving Comtois, it's in a package for a significant, long-term upgrade somewhere.

Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevorchef</b></div><div>I think you are probably right. I don't see Montreal as an "ideal" trading partner for Jack Eichel to be honest. It would likely cost more than they are prepared to offer.
Buffalo HAS to get this right, or it will set them back another ten years.</div></div>
Agreed that this is a very key move for the future of their team, that being said i have very little confidence that they will get it right especially given that all the picks and prospects they get back still have to be properly developed. I know its an unpopular opinion but if i was buffalo i will be loading up on as many assets as possible in this deal, instead of one key prospect, because there's so much that they need and you cant assume you are going to hit on all your picks even if they are first rounders.

Leafs Offseason
Chychrun is Arizona's #1 defenseman going forward. Given his skill and contract, I doubt very much they move him. Rielly doesn't slot in and fill that role, plus he's older and has no term. Rielly's contract would end up being more money that Chychrun's by the end of things, and he is the worse defenseman of the two. I get Robertson and Amirov are two very good prospects, but the Coyotes will not be short of prospects given the sheer amount of draft picks they have.
