We don't want or need Gallagher either, still lots of FA options out there.
Why are there so many trades with him these days?

We might as well go after Toffoli now too...

Yep. I wasn't on board with these trades pre-FA but with things as they are it seems that Tre just fully committed to keeping Hanifin.

Not to mention that he's on a very affordable contract for another 4 years.
Maybe they make a deal like this if they were in rebuild mode, but we're a ways off from that at this time.

I find it quite funny that certain flames fans still haven't forgiven JG for that one interview he did that one time.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Flames do not <em>need </em> to make a trade...there is potential for a shake up but the other team really needs to <em>sell us</em> on the deal. This one, frankly <em>any</em> I've seen from Philly, does not at all impress me.

Flames Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingsLover</b></div><div>I mean I guess if they sign Petro it makes sense?</div></div>
Well, there's 0% chance we actually sign him. LeBrun was speculating possible landing spots but I have no doubt that BT is going to avoid committing 8.5/9 mil for 7 years, only gaining 2-3 years of performance for 4-ish years of a boat-anchor contract. We are not in a "win now" window by any means.
Plus we <em>just </em> extended Andersson and he's our only RHD under contract.

Agreed. I think we're looking at if the shake-up needs to/does happen there's a trade there with Minny that makes sense for both teams. For me EL's contract is a big reason why I wouldn't move him and a line of JG-EL-TH would be incredible.
Also, the Flames are not in a position where they <em>have</em> to trade anybody, so teams really do need to sell us on the deal otherwise we're happy keeping SM and finding a different solution to our D lineup.
And yeah, the 1st is a little pricey...happy if it was just Kunin myself but others don't feel that it's enough (Dumba+Kunin). So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Flames with Hall No Major Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I would not do that, zero right handed wingers was already a problem this year. Can't have it happen again. IMO Bennett as earned just as much of a top 6 chance as Dube. Maybe more. I also prefer the option of having someone who can take right handed face offs on the first line. Like Giroux, Benn, Marchessault, Schmaltz, Wheeler
In my scenario we also bring in a Coach like Gallant who can re-insert a Rush System into the first line like we had for most of last year</div></div>
I like the reasoning here; honestly, this would be my ideal scenario. Hall aside, I think this is more or less the kind of off season we can expect unless BT really blows it up.
Was wondering about the call to keep Bennett and trade Ryan? Not criticizing it, just kinda curious. Ryan is a natural centre and seems to have a very big stabilizing influence on the bottom 6.

Yeah, despite all the "rumours" I imagine it's going to be a very quiet off-season for the flames.

Seeing if Hall can work without a cap increase
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AJC13</b></div><div>It's hard to assess Bennett's trade value when he's a 4th line center for the style of play during the regular season, but a 1st or 2nd line center when the style of play switches to playoff hockey.
Rangers might ask for a 3rd round pick or a prospect or player with the trade value of a 3rd round pick. Personally I love Bennett and would probably make the trade, but I'd first ask for a 3rd round pick or it's equivalent player or prospect.</div></div>
I think that's 100% fair. If this kind of trade were to happen it would certainly need finessing considering the body of work for Georgiev is relatively small and Bennett is a bit of an enigma.

2020-21 Trees one huge trade a year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Scoob1978</b></div><div>Flames fans need to stop panicking about Johnny Hockey.</div></div>
I have a really hard time believing the majority of us are that panicked about him at this point in time. A small majority has never forgiven him for saying, on a Philly radio show: "'Everyone wants to play for their hometown team eventually,' Gaudreau said."
Recently he's gone on record saying he could see himself playing the rest of his career for Calgary.
So this idea that he totally hates it in Calgary isn't substantiated. We do have a tendency to default to "blow it up" mode very quickly. We made it into the playoffs this year basically on a technicality, so it wasn't a surprise we floundered against Dallas.

I mean ours is going to be the 19th pick this year. I could certainly live with that given the amount of moves we're going to be able to make this off-season is very limited.
How's the contract term/value for Deangelo? If he wants any more than that it wouldn't happen.

Bleep Bloop
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>I'd say you're about $1.5M shy on Murray (at minimum) and at least the 3rd round pick over. Pretty close with Mangiapane and Gustafsson.
I can't even begin to explain how much more beneficial to the Flames it would be to have Phillips over Rinaldo in their roster on a nightly basis. Rinaldo is a dead breed and should genuinely consider employment in Europe. Phillips would be at worst the heartbeat of the Flames' #2 power play unit. Best case scenario is that sheltered minutes turns him into a 5v5 production machine out of nowhere similar to Jooris.
Assuming three scratches at no more than $850k each and the extra buck and a half to Murray, the Flames are bang-up against the salary cap with no proper #2C and three right-hand shots throughout their forward core (assumes Phillips). Is there value to be had in this team turning the pair of Bennett and Mangiapane into - at minimum - two right-hand shot forwards? Say, a Kapanen and Jarnkrok? I don't think the cap exists without trading Gaudreau to address the gaping hole at #2C, but if Calgary could acquire some half-assed right wings, pushing Lindholm back to pivot is at least feasible.</div></div>
Yeah, it became quickly apparent that we're very tight on cap space however things shake out in the fall.
Phillips is a good note, I forgot about the season he had in Stockton. Mostly I was just quickly filling those last few spots.
I'm keen to hang on to Mangiapane given how steady his development has been and chemistry with Backs and Chucky but I agree that Bennett might have value elsewhere? Kapanen and Jarnkrok are players I wouldn't say 'no' to in a trade but it would really come down to what they'd cost; I've seen some absurd prices for Kapanen here :P

A smallish group of flames fans want to. Bandwagoning is common in Canada, one "bad" season has a lot of fans foaming at the mouth.
Here in YYC a lot of us can't accept that the game has changed; we know skill and speed win games but we're still brainwashed by "Sutter" hockey; IE, every player needs to be a fight-instigating, power-forward or else they're useless.

Lots of UFAs - who comes back
We're not so desperate for goaltending that we need to bend over backwards for the Pens (or anyone) come 20/21. So taking a cap-dump isn't necessary.
Rittich has given us enough so that we can see who's around come July 1; I imagine we're looking for a 1A/backup goalie. Talbot could easily be the guy.

Though it would all depend on the kind of contract/role Murray is looking for from his next contract. Here in YYC he'd definitely be part of a 1/1A goalie tandem with Rittich.
