Description

The Flames were already looking at a tricky cap situation over the next few years and a flat cap really complicates things (I mean, obviously; same goes for everyone else). I'd really love for Hall to play for this team but unless he takes way less than market value (he does want to play for a team that's closer to winning, and joining this team would certainly be a positive move in that direction) I really don't see it happening. So I took a look at the top 20 UFAs and here we are.

The Flames will make one significant move, there's been way too much smoke to expect anything otherwise.

Gustafsson won't be brought back. Apparently they begun negotiations and the number was way higher than the Flames were comfortable with

It’s been 5 seasons with the same core, they will do something big. They won’t rebuild, but it will be a different looking top 6 next season.

I’d use Andersson on the top unit. They haven’t had a one timer option or even just a heavy shot on the PP in years

You don't think Gus would extend at $3M per season? Boy I'd love to have him back next year over Hamonic or Brodie. CGY likely can't afford a $4M ticket for him though, and I don't think that he's earned it with his play the past few years. Would be nice to get more than one season of him after paying a 3rd rounder to acquire.

All I'd heard on the radio was the Flames have had discussions with Gustafsson's agent and the Flames and the player were nowhere close. He's likely to explore the open market, but maybe he circles back to the Flames if he doesn't find an offer to his liking
