Shedding some cap in the offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Sharks have no use for Ceci unless they can’t find a better top 4 RD in FA. So that deal isn't likely but someone will trade for him at that value.
Picking up Demello is smart to eat some of those tougher min freeing up Bouchard for more offensive situations, and he’s likely cheaper than Roy or Pesce. All in all not a bad lineup and thought process here.
My only argument is it would be nice to move Kulak, give Broberg a legit shot and have a little cap room say 1-1.15 mil for injuries.</div></div>
Is it bad that I was thinking — how can the sharks get the contract more in the $2 to $2.5 million range so he could be a flip?
I really don’t know what we (sharks) are going to do in Defense. We need help now to help with development, but more vets take up spots for younger players. We need to find a way to trade cap dumps —- Vlasic for cap dump forward. Those no trade moves are going to make that hard.
Having Ceci and Rutta gives you two RD on UFA to trade. We do have 2 4th, 6th, and 7th in 2025 to pay off a banker teams to help move some of these low return trade pieces.

Bring the youth
Either you are going to have to buy out those players or pay more to for a team to take them. These teams are trying to develop young talent and a cap dump takes cap space, roster spot, and contract slot.

Centers are W smith Edstrom and Flip. I think that clearly leaves a 1/2C hole
We are missing most a top line overall aka all stars. We need to address that in 24 and 25 drafts and then free agents. You have to try to field an actual team in 25-26. That is like 5 years of bad hockey for fans and we should try to do something.

It might make sense if possible to get a UFA top pairing dman. Overpay and keep contract short 1-2 years.
The forwards are an interesting problem. You have a ton of young prospects that likely cover your bottom nine. I am not a 100% you have a solid top 6 yet. You win the lottery and I think you might be in business in a few years with Celebrini, Smith, Flip, and Edstrom at center. Eklund, Musty, Bordeleau, Zetterlund, Kostin, Zadina, Guschini, and Graf. I still think Kunin as a lot of value as a 3/4, but we have him playing over his head right now.

The defensive log jam is a problem and it has to be addressed this summer.
Vlasic — stuck with contract for 24-25 and 25-26. Buyout is pointless.
Rutta — trade ???
Burroughs. — trade
Banning. — trade
Thrun
Addison
Emerson
Ferraro
Muk
Thompson - AHL
Furlong - AHL
Cagnoni - juniors
You can keep some in the AHL/juniors. Yet, you don’t have a top pairing in that mix. Ferraro /Muk is a middle and two others make a bottom.
Playing them above their position is not helping their development. I wonder if a Vlasic / Rutta top is the answer. It will get killed, but at least the others get a decent match up.
The bottom is going to be 2 of the Addison/ thrun / Emerson group.

Pacific Division - Whats the price
Ferraro would take a late 1st. Granlund would like take a late 1stas well. I think you get something back — 4th or 5th.
If you are talking about NJ first which is say 10OA.
Sharks 10th overall
NJD Ferraro + Granlund + TB 3rd + Vegas 4th.
I think the Sharks have to take that even if they don’t want to let go of those 4 assets.

Bc those 5-9 spots likely cause you a top pairing ceiling dman. The sharks have tons in the pool to cover middle and bottom pair. You want to give a top pairing ceiling guy to move up, then sure. Not a middle pairing which we are good on (Ferraro and Muk).

You want to trade McDavid for say a 2nd?

Sharks pass. Why does everyone think the sharks will give picks for older players or young change of scenery players. Change of scenery gets you a 7th if the sharks want them.

Jack Studnicka might be able to fill in for awhile. I would not risk development fo Bordeleau by playing him at C.
Kunin is a gritty 3/4 liner to me. We just have him playing to high and it shows.

If the sharks are 2 or 3, then they likely would be willing to trade back to six. That said—- that package isn’t going to work.
6OA and Guhles is likely needed to do it and then maybe the late first too.

I like where this is going. I would change up the lines.
I would keep Peterson down. You are way under paying Kunin.
I don’t like bordeleau playing center. I think I resign carpenter vs Bailey to have a 3c.
I take it you send G Smith to the AHL or he got claimed off waivers?

If I was the GM of the shark, I wouldn’t do that NYR trade. Let them keep Kappo. If he wasn’t a 2OA, then people wouldn’t value him so high. His play hasn’t backed it up.
Bordeleau has promise, doing more with less around him.
Sure Kappo might be a top RW one day, but right now he is not.

I think Will Smith is a 1C in time. You might be right about have the 1st line wingers if you don’t think Eklund and musty will pan out there. I have a feeling we aren’t good next year either and have a nice high 1st and 2nd round pick to add to the mix along with Vegas’s 1st. Heck we might have Pitt’s too if it is top 10 this year.

You need around $20 million with 8 players to sign.

Hertl didn’t sign up for a rebuild and he wanted out. He had control of where he could be traded. So MG got what he could while respecting the player. I liked Hertl a lot and hated to see him go. With 20/20 vision, we likely should have trade him before resigning him. Better to trade them a year to soon than a year to late.
We get the a slot back after next year and who do we need to retain on? Maybe Granlund. Everyone else is on a decent contract that is movable. Logan and Vlasic aren’t going anywhere.

I would think a 2nd and a replacement forward prospect (3/4 line ceiling)
Strum is being moved before the trade deadline for sure.
Zadina is streaky. He also doesn’t have always have decent line mates. I think the talent is there.

That top pairing d is a huge hole.
Last night Ferraro and Burroughs as top pair is bad.
Ferraro and Muk are your middle pair.
Pick two of the young ones for you bottom ( Thurn, Addison, Emerson, or Thompson).
When you move everyone up, then it goes badly.

I don’t think they waive him. I think they find someone to trade for him. So if you want him then you have to offer something. Does MG want him?
We still need forwards. You don’t have 13 solid NHL forwards yet.
Sharks needs:
Top 2 line center (hopefully fixed by winning the lottery- smith and celebrini)
2 top pairing dman
3/4 line forwards. Assuming Eklund, zetterlund, musty, and bordeleau are top 6 wingers.
