Rebuilding the top 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swedish_Mafia</b></div><div>I would assume that NYR would turn around and buy him out after trading for him and free up 2.3 mil in space for the 1.1 mil buyout. I could see Yzerman playing hardball and saying no to Maata for Trouba. Can just as easily sell Maata for a 4th, buy out Holl, and sign Roy for the same cap hit. Including Holl saves DRW an additional 1.1 mil in cap space from the buyout, so that would be hard to turn down.</div></div>
I thought Drury was going to buy-out Goodrow, but I don’t think he wants the dead cap. Seems like he know goodrow would be claimed
So I don’t think he would use the buy-out on Holl. Rangers could just hold Trouba and trade him in his final year

There is a ny reporter showing previous comparable trades and if Rangers don't want to give up assets this is the type of deal they have to do, they even used holl as the example

I think Markstrom's workload history has some value. He can handle 60 games.

Detroit HC
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oasiswings</b></div><div>If SY trades for Merz he needs you be fired on the spot...he is awful</div></div>
I would argue against that. Other than last season, where his best friend past away, he has actually been decent on a Columbus team that has been really bad defensively for years. I think, give him a better defense, which I provided here, and an opportunity and hopefully he takes advantage of it. Also if it doesn't work out, he can probably be traded easily enough, even if it's for a slight loss or with more retention. Or good buyout would be half of what it would be now. Say he was abysmal this season and they decided to buy him out, it would only cost 750K, 1.4M, 812K, 812K. That's not bad at all. I personally think it's worth the risk.

Lol I know you are more than willing to drop Perron. Could also sign Kaliyev and/or Berggren to cheaper one year deals.

Necas v2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swedish_Mafia</b></div><div>Consider me in the camp that finds it to be completely overrated. I'm not really interested in locker room leaders with limited on ice value. I also think they find a way to bring back Perron, but I would be against it.</div></div>
It's how you have teams not end up like Buffalo, not saying the they don't have other issues or their leaders are bad, just using them as a consistent poor team.
I could use Edmonton as a reference. From what I heard, from NHL players and people in Edmonton, in the Hall, Eberle and Yakupov days, those guys would go out to the bar after every game. They spent a bunch of time partying instead of training and working on their game. My friend, who played with the Wild at the time, told me that their team would go and party 2-3 times a year at most in season. They had a good team with good leaders. Now, do you think with the right leadership group, those boys maybe get held accountable? Hard to say but I would argue yes.
I'm in the boat that feels like good leadership and culture is very important. Obviously you need the skills and what not but without the leadership, you won't succeed. I compare it to a workplace. If you have a good leader that keeps people happy and keeps efficiency up, the finished product will be better.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

I'd love Walman in this deal. Slavin-Burns, Orlov-Chatfield, Walman-Morrow. Just not sold on Veleno.

Rather not pay the equivalent of two firsts for a 31 y/o soon-to-be UFA goalie, especially considering Cossa and Augustine.

I don't understand your obsession with dumping Walman just so you can play Chiarot at 1LD.
That's a massive overpay for Ullmark, take out the first and the value is there. It's not worth it otherwise.
You didn't even really make the defense better. Roy is an improvement but Chiarot at 1LD is a downgrade. Relaxing Walman with Shattenkirk doesn't improve anything.
This team would make the playoffs, maybe win a round if they are lucky. Never will be a cup contender. Not enough high end talent coming up for them to be serious.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swedish_Mafia</b></div><div>I'd actually prefer Marchessault over Kane if the money and term are in the same ballpark. I'm not signing anyone to the bottom 6, personally. I want those spots available for Kasper and Mazur. Use the cheap ELCs to spend money elsewhere. They are both ready.</div></div>
Got it. I was using Eller as a 1 year stop gap for Kasper but if he is ready, move one of Eller or Veleno to LW on the 4th line and slide Kasper into 3C

Yzerman probably has no interest but Ill bite
I know a different Patrick (Kane) the Wings might be able to get and not trade away picks for. I'd rather give him a 3 year deal that would probably be cheaper than Laine. I like the Husso for Elvis idea though & I understand the Wings would have to be the ones giving picks/prospects for that.

Only Laine trade that works
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swedish_Mafia</b></div><div>Every Laine trade I see seems vastly overpriced to me. I think fans are more in to the idea of adding him than actual GMs will be. He is an 8.7 AAV cap hit coming off a down year, as well as being in the program. I don't think he even has the value of a 1st round pick currently. I get there is a lot of retention there, but I don't think CBJ is going to go for that in a deal. I think it's more of a move on scenario for whatever you can get.</div></div>
Yea definitely hard to value and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s moved for next to nothing

It's the number of pucks Seider eats which worries me.
God love him for having the will to sacrifice his body but I'd hate to see him become Marc Staal or Dan Girardi before his time. 😬
